Highly Recommended......

I had never heard of the book so I cannot comment on how it translated over onto the screen. But from watching other Chinese series like this in the past, I would say by far this has been the best for me and so much so I would watch it again.

Warning it is 40eps long and each ep is at least 38 minute's long. But trust me you will be hooked if you like this kind of genre. Tian Xi Wei's endearing personality that she brings to the charcater just draws you in. The whole series from the cast, the fx and the scale of the production is brilliant.

Tian Xi Wei (Fan Chang Yu) & Zhang Ling He ( Xie Zheng/Marquis Wu'an/Yan Zheng/ 'Xie Jiu Heng') play brilliantly alongside each other and the chemistry is what you expect of accomplished actors/actresses. Even with the very many supporting cast, I would say all of them did exceptional. Even myself who is usually into watching GLs (girls love) series was rooting for them to make it as a couple.

It has all the usual twist, turns and stabs in the back of a story based on Emperors and wars but with some twists added in.

I really hope for a season 2 but for my understanding I dont think there will be. For one there is only one book that I know of that is about this story. Which is a pity.

I will be looking for more series with Tian Xi Wei in because she was that good and it helps she is a very beautiful young woman on top of being a very talented young woman. Not every actress or actor can say a whole sentence with just the expression in their eyes and if you watch this series, you will know what I mean by that because it happens frequently throughout.

Final comments are dont let the 40 episodes put you off because each one ends with you wanting more and more.

Messy, chaotic… but it worked

This drama was honestly all over the place, but it worked for me. The storyline had some really interesting ideas, mixed with moments that were fine and others that didn’t fully make sense, but overall it was still engaging. The editing was sometimes confusing, which didn’t help with the already messy structure, but I just went along with it. It’s one of those dramas you don’t overanalyze, you just take it as it is. The chemistry between the leads? Insane. That alone carried so much of the story. The acting wasn’t always consistent, but it didn’t bother me enough to ruin the experience. In the end, it felt like a refreshing "KBL" after a long time, imperfect, a bit chaotic, but still interesting.

not too bad and not that good

it was really entertaining in the beginning and I really liked it but when it got to like eps 6 it started becoming to boring to me. character like sejin( the female student) was annoying the hell out of me, SL was so useless and doesn’t even feel like SL. visuals was mid except the FL she was really pretty. ML was okay and funny I guess. the ending feelt rushed and I felt like it could have gone deeper with the FL traumatic past. The twins were funny some side characters were just there for the sake of side characters. Even when they were kissing and having romantic skinship I was fast forwarding even though that is what I like the most and was not entertained. the skip button was my favourite part from eps 8. But overall it was not too bad and okay.

This movie was really good; I love the whole concept of it. The movie in itself was really unique and the way it was done was perfect. I like how you are confused at times, but things get explained as you watch, like I don't think there were any major plot holes which was amazing. I also love the little side romance plot and watching the friendships develop. Lastly, the cliffhanger was so good and made me immediately watch the second movie.

I love this movie so much, the plot was a little corny, but it was still amazing. I love the main character in this as well he may have been flawed but he was loyal none the less. I do got to admit the side characters pissed me off but they did redeem them self, I guess. Also, that ending fight scene was 100/10 I loved everything about it. I honestly would love to see a third movie, following this story and the first movie because there is still much I want to know.

Fluffy, Cute romance

Fluffy, cute, how dumb and dumber learn how a relationship should be as it's their first.
The storyline just typical boring chinese campus lovestory, but tianxiwei cuteness and the light romance-comedy scenes just makes me want to rewatch it more and more 🥹🥰
i think WXY's acting here felt a bit stiff but still acceptable with their well pairing couple, great chemistry. I forget about their age gap in real life. TXW is 5 years older than him btw 😭
For the OST, I LOVE the OST SO MUCH!! I put them in my daily chinese ost which give u butterflies everytime u listen to them 🤍✨️🦋

I was honestly really surprised by how much I liked this movie. The main character is such a bad ass like it's really cool, I also like how that doesn't stop her from being a good mother in a sense. Also, I love how the plot is very fast paced, usually I would hate that in a movie, but it works really well for this. My favorite part is the ending when everything starts going down, it was so cool to see. Lastly, I love how good the fight scenes were, a little dramatic but still amazing.

Editing and acting needed a bit work

Overall i loved the show. It had a strong story and a pretty good cast. The thai influence was pretty obvious with the NC scenes. This was my 1st time watching NCs in KBL. I really liked everything about this show except some cuts that just felt too abrupt. At times i couldn't tell if it was the current timeline or past cz their styling hasn't changed at all. If they didn't wear their uniforms i couldn't tell.

Ja Woon's acting was really good but Jun Su kinda missed at times. His crying scenes were really good but then acting coy, first love and such kind of romance related scenes he seemed off but then when it came to NC he did a good job.

Thats the reason it's an 8.5

So underrated!!

I absolutely LOVE this drama and I think everyone should watch it! It's such a high quality gl compared to the fact that women always get the short end of the stick. The story is so interesting and the leads are not only great at acting but they're also drop dead gorgeous!!!!! I don't understand why this isn't more popular it's a 10/10 for me. I felt so many emotions while watching this as well as Reverse 4 You (which I also think everyone should watch at least once in their lives). Open your eyes and heart to this series and you will fall in love with the characters. Oh how I wish I could watch this series for the first time again. I'm so jealous of those who are about to watch it for the first time.

The OSTs for this series are also no joke some of my favourite songs, I listen to them all the time.

You will not regret watching this series and if you do then that's a you problem.

Nothing special

The story could have been interesting but somehow its very blant and really nothing new. Another show that caters to a certain group of viewers. The entire senses storyline could have been interesting but its just really weird. Its supposed to be a major part of the story but the executing is sloppy and dragged out. Please stop making 40 ep dramas when you have to fill it with nonsense to meet the episode mark!!!

The acting is okay on all fronts - not good but also not bad. Sometimes they made me cringe but I guess thats the poor writing.

The writing..... I know its based on a novel but damn do they only have the overly powerful FL and bootlicking ML novels left?
Can we for once have a normal show with equals? The ML insantly falling for the FL for no reason at all is overdone and stupid.

The characters are very bland - FL doing nothing and sometimes interfering with stuff but at the end of the day it really doesnt matter if she is there or not.
ML starting off as a strong character but turns smitten and kinda dumb really quick.

Cinematography and sets....... the "outside" sets are so bad like the graveyard.... you could tell those stones are styrofoam and everything looked so fake and plastic.

CGI is very special in this one either its off the charts good or so bad that it is actually ridiculous. FL entrance in ep 1 with the Jellyfish looked like high quality but everything after that was laughable - her doing magic looked like a shitty version of elsa but the worst part are the broom scenes - you can literally tell where the ropes are attached in every shot. And they didnt even felt the need to blend it with the background. Literally looks like she is sitting infront of a picture.....

Also that type of makeup doesnt really suit Reba. But in all her recent shows she has locked off. Doesnt look like the Reba I swooned for.

Lastly even tho I watched 10 episodes the chemistry was only okay and not that great. For some reason they dont look very good together. The entire thing isnt romantic at all - this weird ass toxic tsundere type of shit needs to stop.

Honestly, one of the best family K-dramas. And trust me, I’ve watched a looooot of this genre.
Starting with the story—it was so good. I really liked the fact that, unlike other dramas, they didn’t drag out the “secret daughter” reveal. It was introduced quickly, and the story moved on smoothly.
I loved the chemistry between the main leads. They were so lovely, real, and intense.
I also loved both families—even the villains. You can understand them; even though their actions are wrong, you can clearly see their character development.
The depression/suicide arc was very well done and quite innovative. It’s rare to see a mental health storyline handled this well in a K-drama.
Unlike the majority, I actually liked the ending.
The second lead couple felt a bit off to me, especially the SML, but I got used to it over time.
The acting was overall really good. The Excellence Award definitely goes to Shin Hae-sun—I love her. But the main male lead, her parents, and her cute twin all did a great job too. The only one who was really lacking was the SML.
I highly recommend it. ✨

Sweet little no brainer

The story centres round a country lad (Geum)who moves to the big city in search of fame and fortune only to find that the accommodation his grandfather booked was a scam. After a night on the streets he goes in search of a job and ends up not only employed but involved with a weird man-child (Bi Hyeong) who takes him home with him.

As the plot unfolds we find out that Bi Hyeong is a master-less goblin who has spent the last 1000 years searching for his master and I will admit that when we get the back story and work out what really happened I did have an ‘awwww’ moment!

We are also introduced to a goblin who was once a stone (Gil Dal) a tricky promiscuous fox (Ji Gwi), a goddess (SamSin) and a bad guy (or is he? It’s never made completely clear what he’s all about).

It’s a cute little story with a very simple plot and if you’re looking for some very shallow, harmless fun to kill some time then this might be a good drama to consider.

Would I watch it again? No

Laid the ground work only to let you down

First let me say that I think if this this show had maybe another 10 episodes it wouldve been one of my favorite dramas.

The leads were gorgeous, the cinematography was stunning, the overalk mystery/intrigue surrounding what happened in the past was laid out so well… but the ending was so unsatisfying.

The two leads eventually getting together was minimal. After many amazing action scenes with the FL, she wasnt even that big of a part of the final fight, nor did that fight FEEL intense. It felt subpar from the other battles shown in the show.

The resolution of what happened in the past was a really good story, but because it was only shown through flashbacks with no scenes showing the intense struggle of the leads to accept the injustices that happened, it felt emotionally disconnected.

Still a good watch, and all the cast did an amazing job, but I wish the plot had been better condensed in the 40 episodes.

i expected WAY MOREEEEE tbh

The start🗯️🗯️
After watching some modern Chinese drama I wanted to go back to my first love "chinese costume" drama and this looked like a perfect fit.
it looked like a dark, heavy military, political war drama...oh boy way I way off

Well, I guess I have to find something else to scratch that itch of mine.

This drama is not a "bad - bad drama". Believe me, after more than 200 shows I saw with my own eyes what "bad" looks like, on the other hand I also saw wayyyy better.

To sum it up with a few words: this drama is a nice collage of many other dramas without their more heavy emotional sides.

Did I feel bored? sometimes
Did I feel excited? Not even once.
Did a share I tear? A laugh? Certainly not.
Nice to watch but devoided of emotions.

SHOULD YOU WATCH IT? If you don't really care about expectations and just wanna see a nice story , sure go ahead. Especially if you like the genre

If you are looking for excitement? Look somewhere else.
-–---------_----------------------------
I'll give you my opinion and only if you feel brave enough I invite you to read my rant🤣
The review section is the only place I can talk about these things.

...OK LETS START😁😁😁😁
I know I'll be pedantic but the more I watched the drama the more disengaged I became. I don't care about "fantastical" dramas. I'm fine with fighting scene that don't makes sense, but inconsistency with plot , logic and characters make me side eye a drama.

Drama🗯️🗯️
FL:(actress)
I saw her before in "back from the brink" and tbh I wasn't impressed. In this drama I think she did a bit better but her acting is "emotionless". I guess that's her style of acting.

FL: (character)
I like her strength, resilience and determination. Also her sweet side is enjoyable but I also find her to be dumb and unrealistic. ( RANT BEGINS 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻)

The setting reminds me of Mulan. A group of antagonistic comrades that become besties after sharing the danger, The bathing in disguise etc, even though I feel Mulan was more realistic. She was risking getting caught left and right, our FL is always safe. We don't see her struggle to conceive her identity. Menstruation? Chest binding? Toilet? Washing? They skip all of it.

When the FL gets replaced by her brother nobody is suspicious. Really? You don't see a difference in height? Voice? Size? The general appears with. No mask after a whole life hiding his face. No questions asked?
They could have chosen a more androgynous actora as her brother.
Putting appearance aside, how will their skill looked compared to one another? She won countless battles, he probably trained by himself.

Her character is supposed to be a simple soldier but she talks to her general like it's her sugar daddy. That's insane. You wouldn't talk to your general like that especially when they not close yet.

She keeps revealing her identity left and right never being too cautios. I don't get it. If the word of a female general gets out, sooner or later your brother will hear about it. Aren't you worried ?

I also find it weird that she never thinks about the fact that the general believe she basically killed his Father.

ML:
(Actor) I find him quite good. I just saw his works in "how dare you" and he does a pretty solid job in these costume dramas. No complaints.

(Characters) I feel compared to the FL character he makes more sense and is more linear.

Other characters:🗯️🗯️
The actors ( like them all, they all professionals).

Characters:
I feel no emotional connection to the characters. We are supposed to care about these people and even cry about their death but I didn't feel anything. The shifu, other soldiers, the princess , the school mates... I feel we didn't have enough interactions on screen to really care.

OBSERVATIONS WHILE WATCHING 🗯️🗯️
A weird combination of emotions. In one scene the FL is hurt and hugging a dead wolf and she immediately starts talking about love and valentine. What?😅 And tha6t not the only time they force "serious" speeches in the most insane moments.

The drama itself feels like a collage of previous shows. I could even pinpoint what specific scene was from where.

There is a lot of romance subplot we don't care about. The Chifu love story with the princess, their old classmate with the dancer, chu with the prime Mister daughter...

Fight scenes🗯️🗯️
pretty unrealistic but that's a perk of this specific genre.

Inconsistency 🗯️🗯️
I am at episode 22 and I don't even know what these people want.

Ok the ml wants his father's reputation to be restored but about the FL? She never talks about killing her brother or punishing her family. She just want to be a general. Ok, what does it mean? You want to go back to the capital? Work for the emperor?

The prime minister also has no clear direction. He wants every general to be gone but it seems he doesn't have anyone to replace them. I don't even know why he wants that. They never show us the emperor court. We don't know about any power plays except for the prime minister.
He s also colluded with a foreign country.🤷🏻

The prime minister pupil knows his master is a corrupted individual but he's willing to help him any way only second guessing his master when the prime minister "goes too far".

The Chifu dies in a very stupid way. He basically found out where the rebels came from and he didn't call anyone to help him. He fights dozens of warrior and dies.

We never see what is happening in the capital.

Ep 23. Too convenient girl that you start investigating after the general found out about your identity. Shouldn't you have started as soon as you left the temple?

Ep 23. I knew it!! Her brother heard about a female general!!!!

Cheese factor🗯️🗯️
Some scenes are so cheese.

After a battle the FL falls into a puddle of water deep 2 cm at best and they show us a scene where she is basically drowning 🤣🤣after ml saves her the camera shows us the most shallow water ever.

Ml asking the princess to keep fl identity a secret is hilarious. She s been going left and right talking about feminism. Everyone knows her face and these are wealthy people well connected to other officials and Nobles. Word will spread pretty fast.

The Xiao General revenge was so dumm. You send kids to die ever single day . Your son dying is a trap?

I just finished episode 22 and I m fine stopping here.
There is nothing holding me in place. Maybe I'll come back later...but I feel I am not missing out on anything exciting.

Why Change a Perfect Ending?

I really enjoyed this drama, especially its emotional story and character development. The journey of the female lead was meaningful, and seeing her grow stronger made everything more engaging.

Hong Ye was also a standout character, not only for his depth but also for his striking and captivating presence on screen.

However, I didn’t like the ending. The drama made it feel unclear and a bit tragic, which was disappointing.

In the original story, she doesn’t give up. She trains, becomes stronger, and eventually finds her way back to Hong Ye, choosing to stay with him forever in that dimension.

This version feels much more complete and satisfying. I really wish the drama had followed the original ending.
