Familiar

Look, I'm a sucker for So Ji-sub. I'm also a sucker for action dramas, especially revenge stories and, even better, extraction thrillers. Give me a protagonist rescuing a loved one from kidnappers à la Taken, and I'm already halfway sold. So I knew I was going into Agent Kim with a good bias.

If you like the Taken films, this is much closer to that than John Wick. I've seen people make the comparison, but I don't really agree. So Ji-sub's action style here isn't the stylish, balletic violence of John Wick—it's much more emotional, grounded, and heart-led. Plus he's a three-man army.

The drama starts incredibly well. The first three episodes had me hooked. It stalls a little in the middle before finding its stride again around Episode 7, and from there it becomes a really enjoyable Friday-night watch.

My biggest issue is that it's just... familiar.

I've watched so many dramas and films in this genre that I could predict almost every twist, reveal, and set piece before they happened. Nothing really surprised me. If you're an action aficionado, I think you'll probably feel the same. It's entertaining, but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

What carries the drama is its charisma. The cast is excellent, everyone understands their role, and the characters are genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. The fight choreography is slick, the villain is compelling, and there are some surprisingly funny moments that stop the drama from becoming too self-serious.

But there's also something repetitive about it. It leans heavily on familiar tropes and never quite breaks free from them. I honestly think if I hadn't watched it while it was airing, I probably would've dropped it, picked it back up, and repeated that cycle until I eventually finished it.

It's a little boring... but also endearing. Which is probably the strangest compliment I can give it.

Overall, it's warm, emotional, well-acted, and an easy recommendation if you love this type of action drama. Just don't expect it to reinvent the genre.

I finished it, but it was a HARD struggle.

Actors ... I will enjoy Hou Ming Hao in whatever he is in and I have always enjoyed Ai Mi as an actress. I thought she did an amazing job.

Chemistry ... They did well with not taking this too far and still have an obvious connection with FL and ML, but I didn’t feel romance. Hou Ming Hao can do romance and as much as I love Ai Mi and am glad, she got such a huge role, the show would have been better with an older FL so Hou Ming Hao can show us what he can really offer.

Supporting roles ... Good, taking into account this show was a bit different.

The storyline ... Mostly entertaining, the progression was interesting, which I think was mostly due to being cut for a shorter series?

OST ... the main songs were lovely.

Rewatchable ... for me, no.

Story/plot ... This is hard because there was so much involved. Firstly, it was very unrealistic. Yao Yao being as advanced as she was in the crafts ... mm sorry but I can’t believe that. Even though I hate when shows drag things out, most ... if not all of the issues seemed to be resolved when the cameras were looking the other way. The politics were also chaotic, things that should not have been let go, were ignored, things that were less important were given too much time. Who was the most powerful person in the region? Powers didn't struggle so much as relinquish ... people were slapped on the hand for things as horrendous as murder but beaten for doing a lot less. Some just walked away while others just died. It was all a bit strange. The actual storyline was ... it was ... umm it was ......

Sound ... Within the first minute I was blindsided. I thought I was watching an overly done prologue. Background, voices, music ... the sound was off. The music overlay was WAY too much; it's supposed to be background music, but it was in the foreground. The volume didn't fit some scenes and was overused. The voices ... oh the voices. It all sounded too unrealistic like I had another show playing in the background. They were so dramatic and sometimes did not match the actor or the scene. The actual acting was good but was overshadowed by the sounds. (It was so bad I had to keep checking if my audio compressor had been turned off)

The cinematography ... Having the outsides of some shots, blurred or occasionally blown out seemed like a dream sequence, yet it was to portray an emotional scene. Some shots, it was as if I had 10 seconds skipped my way through the show. I am assuming it boils down to how the show was cut. It didn’t flow for me. It felt like I was pulled out of and thrown into some scenes.

Fight scenes/choreography ... Oh dear, it was not done well, the camera man needed to take half a step to the left or right ... I could see that the punches and hits missed and were delivered too late/ too early. The wire work was OK, but the timing was still off. On some occasions though, they were amazing ... no consistency.

Characters ... It didn't seem like they were expected to show growth. All the characters, at their core, seemed to end as they began. It made it hard for me to feel anything about any of the characters; any emotion was brushed aside rather quickly, which was strange as this show was filmed in a very dramatic way.

To finish off, I liked the characters, I have no idea what the actual main plot was and felt nothing towards any of them. I was soooooooo looking forward to this show.

Very Enticing

Amazing start! Single father doing his best to provide for his daughter then tragedy hit making it his mission to save her. I absolutely loved the beginning it’s a great action show! The friendship between the three men is so sweet and real. Now time for cons. Major con I say after saving his daughter it was kind of like we already met the endpoint what else is there, are we dragging it? But don’t worry that thought/boredom was short lived and it met expectations in the story continuation. The past memories of his live in North Korea were very violent and gruesome so when the North Koreans came to the south I expected some of that but it wasn’t much felt like a normal agents fighting, only thing giving North Korean was their accents and outfits. Lastly the damn Ju Gang construction guy they still on about making this pathetic guy the main villain like we got a whole ass enemy nation I don’t care about the construction guy they really dragged that no lie.

2 side notes: Mr. Taekwondo Man looked very depressed in the middle of the show :(

​It's fun, it's silly, and it's surprisingly potent with its themes.

​Whale Store xoxo follows Wan as she struggles to keep her recently deceased father's store afloat. As if losing her father wasn't enough, she was also recently let go from her job at a firm. This leaves her in quite a predicament: does she try to sell the shop, right as a huge conglomerate chain opens a rival store next door, or does she keep it and fight the ever-growing capitalist system that wants her small shop closed?
​Helping her is Maewnam, a regular of her father's who wants to keep the business afloat but also harbors a secret regarding the competitor opening next door. Somewhere along the line, Wan and Mae develop a romance and become a couple. But secrets don't wait to be revealed, and they must find a way to juggle both their personal and professional relationships.
​Wan's predicament was incredibly intriguing to me, as it forces her, a person so deeply involved in a capitalist society, to decenter that mindset from her life and trust her peers more. At first, everyone is hostile to her because she brings a corporate viewpoint to a previously close-knit neighborhood. Her father had an established system that, at first glance, wasn't highly profitable but kept the store afloat. When Wan comes in and disrupts that system, she is seen as "the other" in a community she perceives as peculiar.
​And that's what really charmed me about this show. We see Wan try to understand her father and start building relationships with her customers. Even when people naturally start buying from the competition because they offer cheaper prices for the same products Wan sells, Mae is always by her side.
​Mae herself has a complicated relationship with her mother, who wants her to take over the family business and disapproves of her relationship. Both of them have to fight the expectations set on them by themselves and their families. Their relationship is a breath of fresh air compared to other WLW shows.
​Now, don't get me wrong; there are some issues with the show, such as unnecessary misunderstandings, a few weak performances from side characters, and some shots that can appear amateur. However, those flaws didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the series, especially with the really strong performances from both Milk and Love.
​All in all, this is a show I highly recommend to anyone who wants to watch a lighthearted romance with surprisingly smart and current themes.

Brilliant in every way!

This is absolutely one of the most enjoyable & suspenseful series I've seen in some time. I normally don't find one person taking down 20 people in a room entertaining, but each time these three protagonists do it, it's done with such excitement, skill and humor. You just can't help be amused by it.
At no time does this series lose you attention. From the very beginning, right till the very end ... it's just pure entertainment.
Ji Sub & Dae Hoon fit perfectly together ... while Kyung Ho is just about the most entertaining character in this entire drama!
The three make perfect chemistry together, never missing a beat.
The supporting cast is great as well. The writers give us fantastic antagonists. So many to despise, they just keep coming. Every episode there is someone new to hate. Just brilliant!!
Without giving anything away, episode 7 is by far one of the greatest "bad guys get theirs" episodes I've ever seen. It could have been the finale. In fact, I was kind of worried that after that episode, the series was probably going to stall ... but it didn't happen. The next episode picked up and carried us to new excitement.
The final episode definitely delivers, too. Everything you could have hoped to happen, does ... and more!!
An all around great great series!!

Amor en canapé

Do Hoon (Yoo Jung Hun) no recordaba a Yoon Soo (Lee Ki Taek), a quien conoció en sus épocas universitarias. Hoy, el primero se ha convertido en un solitario empleado del área creativa de una empresa publicitaria. Su aburrida rutina gravita entre la monotonía y los excesos laborales. Pero esa monotonía comienza a cambiar cuando entra en escena su nuevo vecino, un experto cocinero que, con la excusa de sus prácticas, comienza a involucrarse en su vida cocinando para él. Y resulta que este enigmático personaje no es otro que su antiguo compañero quien, con sus exquisitos platos, irá conquistando al infeliz oficinista. La relación de ambos irá creciendo con ayuda de la tenacidad y el particular empeño con el que el cocinero elabora sus recetas.
Una idea que no deja de tener un componente original. La elaboración y las descripciones de las diversas recetas simbolizan el sentimiento genuino hacia el compañero. Después de todo, cocinar especial y dedicadamente para alguien no es otra cosa que una expresión de amor hacia el comensal.
Con un final redondo, tan sencillo como sutil y de lágrimas dulces en los ojos, esta modesta serie logra conmover con la misma calidez de esa comida preparada con amor y esmero. Atributos que esta tierna obra supo mostrar con talento y un desarrollo fugaz pero ameno. Fácil de ver, producción honesta y buena dirección. Un romance que no necesita tensión erótica ni sexo para llegarte al corazón.
Sin embargo, percibo una sobrecarga de diálogos e interacciones de oficina que podrían haberse simplificado en favor de un mejor desarrollo de ambos personajes y así poder construir una tensión física que el tema naturalmente amerita. Se queda, no obstante, en la ligereza de una serie injustamente casta, a contramano de un guion interesante que invita a reclamar más.
Se nota, por lo tanto, cierta pereza narrativa que le da un baño de intrascendencia a una idea que amerita mayor potencia. La tomo como un refrigerio liviano, de los que uno se sirve cuando el hambre no apremia. Tanto la dirección como la producción son prolijas, lo que refuerza su intención. Me gustaron las actuaciones.

Cold as ice

The story is intriguing and appears to be based on a novel. I find the story interesting but the series lacking. The main couple has zero chemistry. I’m not feeling any attraction between them whatsoever. Also, the acting isn’t great. Emoting appears to be what passes for acting. Was there even a director attached to this project because competent director would have allowed these weak performances to stand. I’m so disappointed in this series. What it is with omegaverse BL—you get story only or you get good acting and production but little plot? I have not been converted to the sub genre based on the 3 series I have watched.

Min-Ji, Daddy's here!

After watching the Japanese drama Viral Hit, adapted from the Korean webtoon of the same name, I had no idea I had only scratched the surface of something much bigger. Agent Kim Reactivated is an adaptation of the webcomic Manager Kim, which, like Viral Hit, belongs to the PTJ Universe. "What's that supposed to mean?" you may ask. If I mention the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), you'll immediately understand the concept. Well, this is basically the same thing, but for Korean webtoons, with Lookism serving as the cornerstone of the shared universe. Behind it all is Park Tae-jun (PTJ), who created several interconnected series such as Viral Hit, Manager Kim, and Questism, where characters can cross over from one story to another. The interesting part is that I didn't discover Manager Kim as a PTJ fan hunting for Easter eggs. I watched it as a complete outsider before gradually realizing how deeply everything was connected. And that's probably the best way to appreciate this universe: slowly discovering that a character you thought was just a side character actually has an entire story of their own. Now the real question is whether Agent Kim Reactivated succeeds as an adaptation of its own source material, beyond simply benefiting from being part of a shared universe.

Mr. Kim (So Ji-sub) is an ordinary employee working at a small bank branch. A widower, he raises his 17-year-old daughter Min-Ji on his own. But he hides a massive secret: for over ten years, he has actually been a dormant agent. A North Korean defector—for reasons that will eventually be revealed—he is considered one of the greatest agents on either side of the Korean peninsula, having carried out countless covert operations. His only two real friends are Park Jin-cheol (Yoon Kyung-ho), an almost indestructible human tank, and Sung Han-soo (Choi Dae-hoon), a taekwondo master who looks like he walked straight out of Fatal Fury. To keep Kim's identity hidden, especially from North Korean intelligence, the three of them agreed on one simple rule: stay under the radar. Unfortunately, Min-Ji becomes the target of relentless bullying at school by the daughter of Ju Gang-chan (Joo Sang-wook), a powerful businessman tied to organized crime and corrupt politicians. What starts as revenge against Min-Ji quickly spirals out of control, forcing Kim to come out of retirement. The unstoppable killing machine is back. And when his daughter—his entire world—is threatened, neither South Korean special forces nor North Korean agents will be able to stop him.

Agent Kim Reactivated is a fairly faithful adaptation of Manager Kim. But make no mistake: this is unapologetically a 100% action series. Nobody is here for philosophical debates or deep existential questions. You're here for fistfights and pure entertainment. Never read the webtoon? Nobody cares. Forget realism. This isn't a Steven Seagal movie. The outrageous action is precisely what made Park Tae-jun's universe so popular. Kim, Han-soo, and Jin-cheol are actually even more brutal in the original comic, but since this is an SBS production, the violence was toned down a little to avoid a stricter age rating and appeal to a broader audience. Agent Kim Reactivated never tries to reinvent the action genre. Its ambitions are much simpler: deliver a badass protagonist, spectacular fights, and a revenge-driven family protection story. And in that regard, it absolutely delivers. The plot itself is straightforward because it doesn't need to be anything more. Kim immediately commands respect. A former elite operative and a father willing to destroy anyone who threatens his daughter, he moves through the story like an unstoppable weapon. The action scenes are frequent, energetic, and incredibly satisfying. The classic "one-man army" formula works perfectly, capturing that unmistakable feeling found in action webtoons where the protagonist keeps facing stronger and larger groups of enemies. There are also plenty of references to classic Japanese fighting games such as Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. Sung Han-soo constantly reminds you of Kim Kaphwan (and no—not me), thanks to the spotless white dobok he somehow manages to keep perfectly clean regardless of the situation. The same goes for Park Jin-cheol and his camouflage uniform, which somehow always looks freshly ironed. And Kim...Well...He's simply Kim. The legendary trio with sunglasses... that never lose them, by the way.

This isn't a drama aiming for realism. It's adapting a universe where over-the-top insanity is the entire point. Without that unapologetic madness and relentless pacing, it simply wouldn't taste the same. So judge the series for what it's actually trying to accomplish. The villains are never meant to be serious threats. They're walking jokes. Punching bags. Human targets placed there for the audience's enjoyment. There's only one goal here: have fun. If you don't understand the very essence of the original comic—or simply dislike this kind of storytelling—there's little point in watching it or criticizing it for not being something it never wanted to be. You can criticize the technical aspects or the acting if you want. But criticizing the core concept misses the point entirely. The story is as simple as a video game. The hero must rescue the princess. Well... in this case, his daughter. And punch a whole lot of bad guys along the way. Of course, every good steak deserves a spicy sauce. Here, that sauce comes in the form of wonderfully absurd humor. Yes, there's plenty of fighting. But it's constantly balanced with lighthearted comedy. Kim never laughs. He simply rearranges your face. Meanwhile, our fearless duo in their dobok and camouflage uniforms happily alternate between comic relief and lovable idiots. As I've already said, the drama's greatest strength is its magical trio. Like the perfect attacking lineup in football, the chemistry is simply outstanding. So Ji-sub is Kim. There's really no debate about it. Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho are equally fantastic. Saying so almost feels redundant.
They have this effortless ability to beat people senseless while casually throwing jokes around. Are the heroes ever really in danger? No. And that's completely intentional. If you don't realize that within the first episode, you're simply watching the wrong show. The director also deserves a lot of credit. His staging intelligently recreates the visual language of the original webtoon, and the ridiculously over-the-top scenes are simply a joy to watch. Overall, the casting is excellent. And since I'm only human...I was more than happy to see Son Na-eun playing such an unusual action role.

Now let's talk about the huge surprise that nobody saw coming. By the second episode, word of mouth had exploded, especially within the PTJ Universe community. Agent Kim Reactivated wasn't just successful. It became a genuine phenomenon in South Korea, posting astonishing ratings for an action drama. At its peak, it surpassed 23% nationwide audience share, a figure many believed had become virtually impossible in 2026 after the explosive rise of OTT platforms. Apart from the premiere—which stayed below 10%—the entire series hovered close to the 20% mark, an absolutely massive achievement. Of course, high ratings don't automatically mean a drama is exceptional. Plenty of terrible movies have become massive hits. What these numbers really demonstrate is that audiences are still eager for well-made action dramas capable of appealing to the general public—not just hardcore fans. Like Marvel's MCU, the PTJ Universe still has enormous untapped potential. There are enough stories here to support more than a dozen interconnected series. Maybe one day we'll even get Lookism, the very foundation of the entire universe. Adapting that webcomic into live action would be a monumental undertaking. In short, if you enjoy live-action comic adaptations that fully embrace their source material, Agent Kim Reactivated is absolutely worth watching. Its 10-episode format is just right. And the final scene introduces one of Viral Hit's most iconic characters, who arrives to challenge Kim. A showdown that already promises to be explosive.

A beautiful, tragic love story

I didn't really know what to expect; the only thing I knew was that it was a love story and that something would get in the way. I was thinking something like moving or something like that. I really didn't realize that she would get sick, and especially not with this particular illness. At the beginning of the film, where we saw some beautiful moments between the two, I already thought that something sad was about to happen.

I found the film really beautiful and sad. Apart from the end, she told him nothing about the illness and lied to him. From that perspective, she did it for him, of course also because I think she was "ashamed". But even after he found out, he still visited her daily and told her stories. The film shows that you should love your partner regardless of their condition or appearance.

I also thought it was wonderful how he displayed photos for her and her sister-in-law told stories about her.

A good slice-of-life movie done right

This movie is incredible, and I feel like a fool for not watching it earlier.
I love everything about it, and it definitely deserves much more recognition.
I love that instead of demonizing a female character that has a crush on the main lead, they actually wrote her to be a nice and understanding person.
She is supportive and takes a step back when necessary.
I feel sad that she had to step away from them, but it was her choice after all, and if the crush is still there, it is for the best.
Talking of that, I loved the plot twist and the fact that Miyako knew all along but never said anything.
I respect him for keeping it to himself, it might not be that big of a deal, but it is a nice detail.

My biggest "problem" with this movie is just the length of it.
As well as the fact that for me it was almost impossible to find anywhere to watch this movie.
Other than that, though, I loved it 100%

Best of SongWeiLong &ZhangJingYi!

Here just to applaud Love for You. The script, directing, music and most of all superb acting and perfect compatibility of SWL/ZJY made Love for You my all time fav of their dramas. Honestly Shine on You was so highly rated but I find SWL compatibility with JingMai a bit off. JingMai is better in Amidst Snowstorm. I actually checked the director’s dramas and watched Love For You immediately when I found it’s directed by this director. You know how some strong casts dramas fail to interest you when the directing of first few episodes are so bad? I think this director’s able to capture the sad, vulnerable and fragile emotions as acted so perfectly by both leads, who touched us and convey the plight of these 2 young children left to fend for themselves. It is such a sad and hopeless existence that without their bond, they would not have survived. My heart actually ache when witnessing the internal torment of the 2 characters and so touched by their love for and support of one another. SWL acting of a fragile yet tenacious young male with such relatable conflicting thoughts and emotions draws you into the struggles of a male-child who had to fend for himself yet protect the one he loves. His eyes, facial movements, bodily actions convey the struggles with such depth it’s heartbreaking. Throughout the drama, one can’t help to be in awe of SWL & ZJY’s visuals, they are both the epitome of perfection. Only drawback is SWL’s attire which could be better esp that unflattering long jeans shorts. And oh the songs…… perfect match and esp when one is sung by both leads. How talented they are! Somehow I am not discouraged by the slow pace romance. Rather, it shows that SWL’s character is respectable and the power of respect for one ‘s love in a bond so strong. SWL’s madness for ZJY makes one yearn for the same undying support and love in life, though almost impossible but I believe it does exist. All in all, considering all aspects, tgis is my fav of both male leads’ dramas. Look fwd to more from them.

So weird

This is just a really sexist show, gmmtv really portrays their male actors are other worldly. I really liked me and thee but the way, and now, the plot is just bland and lacks any common depth. When the main couple are together, it’s like fluff slop that is just four episodes of fast paced nonsense. Pond and Phuwin are nice actors, but I feel like this series was only created to make GMMTV more money. Should’ve genuinely ended at me and Thee, just misogynistic to a create just a lack of words, bad script. EmiBonnie deserve a better series, and the whole aspect of Emi’s character being a women in security and being downplayed in strength by mok?? . Yeah bro don’t microwave good series again gmmtv

Un BL relativement bien travaillé

J'ai pris plaisir à le regarder et même, certains soirs, à être pressé de voir l'épisode suivant.
Pourtant, j'aurais pu arrêter après le 4ᵉ épisode, qui était pour moi catastrophique.
La série concentre tout ce qui n'est pas à faire en un seul épisode rempli de lourdeur :
des scènes ou réflexions illogiques, des quiproquos grotesques et pénibles.

En fait, ce milieu de série m'a fait réagir surtout par rapport au personnage de Krom, qui passe pour un abruti au sourire niais.
Difficile à regarder, surtout qu'il nous apparaît au début comme un jeune homme sûr de lui et intelligent.
D'ailleurs, cela se remarque lors de quelques scènes que j'ai énormément appréciées, car il réagit avec beaucoup de réflexion, de gentillesse et de force.
C'est plutôt rare, ce qui fait que je l'apprécie d'autant plus.
Il retrouvera ce caractère par la suite, rendant encore plus incompréhensible ce choix de le rendre idiot, certainement pour jouer quelques épisodes plus « drôles ».

Mis à part ça, la série est plutôt bien rythmée, avec des personnages attachants et qui véhiculent des messages de respect et de tolérance.
Ils auraient pu survoler ou laisser de côté les problèmes rencontrés dans le monde des Idols, mais j'ai apprécié la manière dont ils ont traité le sujet jusqu'au bout, sans pour autant chercher à en faire trop ou à le minimiser.
La série respecte son scénario de base et est cohérente dans son ensemble.
On a des moments touchants, drôles, dramatiques pour de bonnes raisons (pas en forçant le scénario), et les acteurs interprètent bien leurs personnages.

Une bonne série qui sait traiter une histoire sans passer par les schémas stéréotypés classiques du genre.
