Too short for a good story.

The story was good, and everything flowed smoothly until the final episode. Initially, I thought Sergeant Song was the suspect's son, but the final episode showed Prosecutor Kyuho becoming very suspicious, and my suspicions shifted. When Prosecutor Kyuho called Chaeha to the office, she met Sergeant Song instead. Were they in league? The ending was too short, and there was still a lot to discuss.

Aside from that, I give a thumbs up to the director and producers for creating this series; it truly was a non-mainstream storyline. The chemistry between the actors was great, and the interplay between hatred, revenge, and love was very interesting. Especially seeing Taeseon who is always jealous when he sees Chaeha with Sergeant Song 😂

Creating bonds amidst violence

Bloodhounds was one of the kdramas which had been on my watchlist for some time. While the premise seemed intriguing from a first glance, I was hesitant to get into the series and I postponed it. Having watched other similar action-packed kdramas which left me kinda underwhelmed, I was afraid of Bloodhounds not being able to deliver - a fear which didn't come true.

From the get go, we get immersed to the world of Bloodhounds, which is grim, violent and ruthless. Physical violence aside, the writers of Bloodhounds did a good job in establishing the great lengths greedy people go to in order to gain more power and status. The villains relied on their physical and economical advantages in order to exploit the weaker individuals and amid the semi-realistic setting, their schemings highlighted the painful reality of our society - thus, adding more weight to the characters' goal to stop them.

Many people have sung praises of the main duo, Kim Gun Woo and Hong Woo Jin. To be frank, their relationship was one of the main aspects which contributed to my eagerness to get into the series in the first place. I love myself an interesting pair of characters and I was sceptical about whether Gun Woo and Woo Jin would deliver. Well, the boys did not disappoint for a bit.

At first, I expected that Gun Woo and Woo Jin would start as rivals and develop a strong friendship later on, which is the most typical route for most male duos in kdramas. But the series proved me wrong very quickly since they hit it off in the very first episode. I found this to be very refreshing and realistic. They met by chance as rivals on the ring but they quickly became an inseparable duo once they took off their gloves. And yet, this encounter would affect their lives like they would have never imagined before.

I adored the boys' relationship. Their bond was very strong and they treasured it a lot. Both Gun Woo and Woo Jin were willing to move heaven and earth in order to help each other and that was shown multiple times. The writers showcased the influence each one had to the other, especially Gun Woo who managed to make Woo Jin care more about ethics instead of money and power. While Gun Woo and Woo Jin differed in terms of personality, they completed each other like two puzzle pieces and together, they unlocked their true potential not only as kick boxers but as human beings too.

Although Bloodhounds is full of action sequences, the writers put great emphasis on the characters' dynamics too. By providing the drama with a more layered and humane tone and by highlighting the bond between the main characters, Bloodhounds managed to differ from other action packed series which prioritize the action more than the characters.

The quiet and domestic moments between the boys and their friends were a breath of fresh air to an overall hectic and troublesome plot. Mr. Choi, Hyeon Ju, Yang Jeong and Du Yeong, all of them became a second family to Gun Woo and Woo Jin. Mr. Choi's relationships with the other characters in particular, transcended the connections between an employer and his employees and together, they formed a group akin to a family. I especially enjoyed the bond between Gun Woo, Woo Jin and Hyeon Ju, who was always there to help the boys despite her initial reluctance to accept their assistance.

The performances from the actors really elevated the series. I couldn't think of a single miscasting, everyone depicted their character so effortlessly. Woo Do Hwan and Lee Sang Yi were phenomenal as Gun Woo and Woo Jin respectively, their chemistry was off the charts and they conveyed their characters' emotional turmoil perfectly, especially Woo Do Hwan. Kim Sae Ron as Hyeon Ju was alluring to watch, every time she appeared on the screen, I wouldn't take my eyes off her. It was the first time I watched one of her dramas and I'm saddened about not being able to see her in anything new anymore...

The rest of the actors were equally great to watch. The veteran Huh Joon Wo delivered a memorable performance as Mr. Choi and Park Sung Woong embodied Myeong Gil in the most convincing way. He encapsulated the villain's unpredictability perfectly, his body language and the tone of his voice made me feel so uneasy. As for Tae Won Seok, he did so good as Kang In Beom. I got introduced to him from The Judge Returns and the discrepancy between these roles couldn't showcase his versatility more clearly. I could barely believe it was the same person!

As much as I enjoyed Bloodhounds and although I came to really enjoy the series, I must say that I don't find myself getting crazy about it, like many other people did. I understand that compared to other action series, it did some aspects better but for me, some other elements prevented it from earning a bigger reaction from me.

While the pacing was overall very good (it benefits that the episodes were only 8), the last episodes felt like they dragged. I totally understand that due to Kim Sae Ron's DUI controversy the writers had to make some changes to the script but they could have handled it better. After the sixth episode, it was as if the drama had lost its park (which is logical, considering the events that took place) and I wasn't that engaged to the story. The police operation bored me at times and I would have liked to see more of the aftermath after Smile Capital's attack.

Because of the drama's length, some characters and plot points were left unexplored. I would have liked to see more of the characters' past and ordinary life. It would have made an even bigger impact to the story and it would have made the viewers connect better with them. I feel like Woo Jin was sidelined compared to Gun Woo, I wanted to see more of his lifestyle outside of his interactions with Gun Woo. I loved him with Woo Jin but he could have been explored more in some areas.

All in all, I am very happy about watching Bloodhounds at last. I totally understand the fuss around it and it's more than understandable why it gained so much traction. I am excited to watch season 2 as well, this universe is so exciting to watch and I have connected with the characters a lot. I strongly recommend the series to those who are looking for something quick to binge and if you love action packed media, do not miss out!

Chen Yi and Miao Jing: Song Weilong's Best Onscreen Chemistry Yet

I just finished watching Love for You, and it's one of the best dramas I've ever watched. The chemistry between Chen Yi and Miao Jing, played beautifully by Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi, is outstanding. I also loved Chen Yi's friendship with Bo and Rocky; Bo is hilarious!

One thing I especially appreciated was the minimal misunderstanding between the couple. Miao Jing is refreshingly straightforward with Chen Yi about her feelings and needs, which complements his more reserved personality perfectly. I also loved Uncle Zhou's quiet support of the young couple throughout.

I also loved the second male lead, Cen Ye, for his calm and supportive demeanor. There were none of the childish tricks from the second leads that I commonly see in Chinese dramas. Surprisingly, I really liked Cen Ye; he's often smiling as he watches Chen Yi throw his little "tantrums," which was so endearing.

I've watched several of Song Weilong's other dramas, and I find he's much stronger in modern settings. His onscreen chemistry with Zhang Jingyi here is the strongest I've seen from him compared to his previous leading ladies. The scene where he's a groomsman at Bo's wedding stood out in particular: the silent, sensual tension between Chen Yi and Miao Jing, conveyed entirely through their gazes, was unforgettable.

Will I rewatch this drama? Absolutely. I also loved the OST, especially "Wander" by Lars Huang

Perfect visual but not so perfect acting

Story:
For me, it is just another typical costume idol drama. The point that makes it a little different with other idol drama is the palace politic. In this one, the politic is clearly written with much thoughts, not that kind of shallow filler-only plot. However, there are many plot-holes which gave me questioning incongruent character development. Like the FL's background, the 2nd ML's adoptive parents and some of the older generations conflict sources. As on the psychological side of every character, I admit there are many facets of every characters hence make this drama more intriguing.

Acting:
Ranking from the best to the worst: Peter Ho, Neo Hou, Riley Wang, Ai Mi (the others I don't mention are not impressed me enough). Peter Ho as the villain is giving me goosebumps. I hate his character because of his expressions, he really takes his acting to another level. Neo Hou, as I've watched some of his dramas, he is very emotional actor. He can bring emotions pretty much in all his character in dramas. But I'd prefer watch him in melodramatic/serious drama than comedic ones. Riley Wang, at first I was not convinced since his face is mostly flat, but in the last 5 eps, I can feel that he is actually can act as multi-faceted character. Ai Mi on the other hand not impressed me, though I can see her potential since this is her 1st drama as FL. She has a sunshine smiley face which is very suitable as her character is a teenage girl. However, as FL who is fall deeply in love with the ML, she doesn't show much of emotion of affection, passion and yearning. But she shows deep emotions when act as a child to her parents.

Overall: Good for beating drama slump, but at first the emotional development is pretty slow for only 28 eps drama. Visual though is very pleasing. If change the FL to another more mature actress and the drama get more angst, I think this drama could attract more audiences

Xiao Fang: A Beautiful Story of Family, Hope, and Resilience

Finally, an Office Romance Drama I Could Actually Finish

I found it to be a very middle-of-the-road drama, but in a good way.

It doesn't try too hard with overly dramatic twists or endless subplots, and I actually appreciated that. It was refreshing to watch an office romance that stayed light instead of relying on the usual misunderstandings, toxic workplace drama, or over-the-top emotional moments just to keep the story moving.

Of course, it's not the most realistic portrayal of office life or workplace politics, but I don't think that's what this drama was aiming for. It's more of a comfort watch than a realistic one.

The highlight for me was definitely the chemistry between the two leads. They were fun to watch, and their interactions kept me interested even when the story itself felt pretty simple.

I've seen a lot of recent reviews completely tearing this drama apart, and while I understand some of the criticism, I honestly don't think it deserves all the hate. It's not an amazing drama, but it's far from unwatchable.

If you're looking for something light, fluffy, and easy to get through after a long day, I'd still recommend giving it a chance. I watched it on Prime Video, and the English dub was surprisingly decent, which made it an even more relaxing watch.

Will it become one of my favorite K-dramas? Probably not. But did I enjoy my time with it? Yes. Sometimes a simple, low-stakes romance is exactly what you need.

Oranges, youth and friendship: sweet coming of age story & slow burn romance

At first look, this high school BL could be seen as not outstanding among its peers, another high school BL...However, it felt so fresh and charming, and captured with such heart an era as it is set at the end of the 90s/beginning of 2000.

The chemistry between the two main leads was one of the strong point of the series. It was obvious and jumping out of the screen. They were portraying very believably innocent first love, full of turmoil and hesitation, as their characters are like magnets to each other. Their looks at each other, full of trust, love and resolve showed very well their relationship evolution. Overall, acting from the whole cast was a bit green at time but it also felt fresh and genuine.

If I was ultra convinced by the main romance and the friendship among the group of friends, I was less convinced by the two secondary couples. They grew on me overtime, but I also think that one additional couple would have been plenty enough.

I also wish the show would have addressed more the challenges of being gay for some of the characters because it was a non-issue for all the guys, which felt a bit like a missed opportunity in terms of storyline. It was clearly a scenario choice to focus more about the feelings evolution and their impact on the friendship than to question how socially it could impact the characters, which I am not mad about. But I am pondering if it could have brought something interesting to the table to have at least one character struggle with his sexual orientation, especially looking back at that period of time.

I would recommend it to people that are looking for a teen slice-of-like who encapsulate with a lot of heart and nostalgia that end 90s/early 2000 era. Both the friendship and the coming of age parts are done really well. It is not without flaws but the central romance is so good, the slow burn so effective, that I can quickly bypass any small defaults. If you enjoyed series like I Told Sunset About You, I truly recommend to give a shot at this one.

A true mind-blowing masterpiece...

For so many reasons I call this show just that. As I'm writing this I'm still wiping the tears at my eyes from just the all around thrill, sadness, frustration and satisfaction this show brought me. Funnily enough I found this show while browsing around on YouTube shorts and the scene near the end where he is walking down the carpet to the throne in what I guess was women's clothes to see His Father, caught my attention so hard. I instantly was curious as to what this show was about that such a stunning man with tears in his eyes had a stride and demeanor like that. It literally took me two hours just to find the title cause the short didn't list the name and the comment back was even made after I found it. Trust me when I say that what I just watched was not what I was expecting this show to be about at all... I went into this totally blind cause I didn't even look for the trailer once I got the name. Instantly started the binge and omfg what a roller coaster it was.

The glory of this show is so vastly off the charts, it's stunning, the cast was amazing, the time period play out was perfect, the costumes, makeup and decor was absolutely breathtaking.. everything about this show had me hooked from the first 10 minutes. It was about halfway through the first episode when I got this nice flash of nostalgia because these two men started showing a relationship/bromance that very much so reminded me of another duo from a Korean show that I have rewatched more times than I can count and is probably still my number one favorite til this day.

Nares and Mingyi have such a similar love hate bromance like Seo Hwi and Nam Seon-ho from My Country: The New Age, close to the same ending but the stories are different, just similar enough in a lot of places. Please don't take this as comparing either, as both shows are dynamically different but some key things do make similar points. This show just gave me that same hook factor and excitement. It was almost so hard to put it down, I easily got through it in one day. I know I marked this as spoiler but that cause I didn't want people to read the first part but I also don't want to give to much away either as this is a show I think is really good for going blind into because of it diverse characters, how things unfold from their childhood to their lives going into war lords and character developments with each other. It's truly truly a dynamically beautiful show and if you are reading this and haven't watched it, PLEASE I highly encourage watching it. It's truly a wonderful shory with a very eye catching cast and heart wrenching buildup both romantically and throughout each event and character.

Great premise but very ragebaity

The acting was great, especially loved the ML's ability to switch between Gyeon oo and Bong su, it was very fun to watch. The female lead was also able to strike the perfect balance between cutesy and naive (necessary for her role as a lovestruck teenager to be convincing) all while being brave and daring enough to protect her loved ones without being annoying. Too many times these female leads come off as lowkey annoying in their pursuit to come off as strong, but that was NOT an issue here. In this aspect, the show was a 10/10. HOWEVERRRRR, the Yeom-Hwa thing irritated me to no end (10/10 acting by the actress). It just made no sense to me. I got the point that she was a grieving mother and was the spirit daughter of the General which explained why she was allowed to get away with so much but I literally do not understand what the motive of the writers and directors was with her character. Like, she was literally SADISTIC at the start of the show towards the male lead who was a LITERAL KID, had no qualms about manipulating the lives and spirits of people in order to achieve her goals or just be nasty just BECAUSE, literally caused her spirit mother to DIE and I'm supposed to just be cool with her getting away with it all because "Well, she regrets it now"?? Screw that! I was so bewildered by how unbothered they all seemed by her despite the amount of evil she was doing. She literally manipulated the spirit of a fallen child soldier, turning him into an evil spirit who ended up possessing the body of the human child she tortured and they just CASUALLY HAD HER IN THE HOUSE WITH SAID BOY WHO SHE TORTURED? Make it make sense! The General was upsetting me too because yeah, I get it, she's your spirit daughter. But at the end of the day, she is HARMING people and spirits and you KNOW about it. So why aren't you doing more to stop her?? While watching the last episode, I was just begging them to let her character *poof* because it made zero sense to me that she was able to just go on and live her life after all the harm she had done. If it wasn't for this absurdity, I'd give the show a rough 8/10 (1 mark docked for the rushed ending). But yeah, good watch but very rage baitey.

Hong Kong I was not familiar with ur game!

I created this account just to show some love to my favorite BL so far. I'm extremely new to BL world but I don't finish series that I don't vibe with. In a few weeks I've checked out so many. Anyways in this series, both the lead Characters are equally so handsome, so cute, so adorable like hello how is that even possible while representing completely different background. Love the story, the setting, the cinematography, the pace. That love situation was so refreshing for me & didn't expect to see a major twist executed so beautifully. Anyone giving bad review to this series pls give me 3 series better than this bcuz I'm genuinely failing to find it anywhere. A Political Drama That Completely Took Me by Surprise

Wow, wow, wow. Key to the Phoenix Heart truly blew me away.

I went into this drama with fairly low expectations, especially because of all the controversy surrounding it, but it ended up becoming one of my favorite dramas of the year. Before saying anything else, I genuinely recommend giving it a chance.

For anyone avoiding it because of the romance, I honestly do not think it is as problematic as people made it sound. The romantic element is present, but it is not physical or inappropriate. There are no intimate scenes, and the relationship is handled in a very restrained and respectful way. The drama never made me uncomfortable regarding the actors’ ages. Their bond is built more through trust, emotional support, companionship, and gradually falling in love.

The drama also has one of the best opening scenes I have ever watched. That sequence is going to live rent-free in my mind for a very long time.

Hou Minghao’s red-fire battle scene was absolutely insane. I had seen some behind-the-scenes footage and realized that it was not simply green screen or heavy CGI. He was genuinely performing the action, and the amount of effort was obvious. The choreography, intensity, and execution were incredible. It is easily one of my favorite C-drama scenes of the year.

Opening the drama with such a powerful sequence was such a smart decision. It immediately pulls you in, establishes the male lead as a general who has already endured so much, and gives the story a strong emotional and visual impact from the very beginning.

Without a doubt, Hou Minghao was the star of the drama for me. This was not my first time watching him, but it was the role that truly made me fall in love with him as an actor.

Honestly, this may be my favorite role of his. Even though he has youthful features and does not immediately look like the typical hardened, sharp-edged general, his acting completely transformed him. He absolutely devoured the role.

His eye acting was especially impressive. He conveyed so much through subtle expressions and small changes in his gaze. He made the character feel layered, unpredictable, and emotionally complex.

He was shameless, playful, sweet, serious, intimidating, angry, cruel, and vulnerable. I loved every side of him. He was not written as a perfect green-flag male lead. He was morally grey, flawed, and sometimes difficult, which made him far more compelling.

His styling was also excellent. Whenever he appeared in his general’s uniform, I was obsessed. His hairstyle suited him perfectly, and the overall styling made him look incredible. My only minor complaint was that the makeup occasionally looked slightly cakey, but aside from that, he looked immaculate. The shirtless scenes were also very much appreciated.

His fighting scenes were another highlight. You could clearly see the amount of effort that went into them, and he looked like a complete badass. Even during the scenes where his character was blind, he maintained such a strong presence.

He truly stole my heart in this drama.

I also liked that, despite developing feelings for the female lead, he still encouraged her toward the second male lead at certain points. It added another interesting layer to his character and showed that his feelings were not simply possessive.

As for Amy, I am so proud of her. I have watched her before, and she absolutely deserves to be given main roles. You can tell that she grew up acting because she already has such natural control and confidence on screen.

She still has very youthful features, and her character here was also somewhat childlike, but that did not weaken her performance. It only made me more excited to see what she will do in the future. I cannot wait to watch her grow into more mature, intense, and sharper roles because her career looks incredibly promising.

I also really liked her character. She was straightforward, brave, and willing to face things directly rather than constantly avoiding problems.

The chemistry between the leads worked very well for me. I know it was controversial for some viewers, but I did not need kissing, hugging, or physical affection to believe in their relationship.

Their connection felt genuine, comforting, and supportive. It was not a fiery or intensely electric romance. It felt more like a friendship gradually deepening into love, and I found that very believable.

Even without the romance, the drama is strong enough to stand on its own. However, the relationship gives the male lead something emotionally meaningful to hold on to and a reason to keep moving forward. Their scenes together added warmth to an otherwise intense and politically driven story.

The second male lead, Riley, also deserves praise. I would really like to see him as a main lead because he has such strong screen presence.

His character constantly made me question his intentions. He could appear kind and gentle in one moment and then darker or more suspicious in the next. I was skeptical of him for a long time, so I was very happy that the drama eventually redeemed him instead of turning him into a stereotypically evil second male lead.

He ultimately grew into a worthy emperor, and I loved the storyline involving the three main characters. Rather than allowing jealousy or romance to completely destroy their relationships, they eventually came together and helped build the empire.

Most importantly, the drama preserved the friendship and brotherhood between the male lead and the second male lead. I appreciated that their bond was not ruined over a woman.

Another pairing that deserves a special mention is the emperor’s sister, or Prince Qi’s sister, and the man from Northern Chen. I cannot remember their names, but I really wanted a proper ending for them. There was something unexpectedly captivating about their dynamic, and I wish the drama had invested more time in their relationship.

Beyond the characters, the writing was one of the drama’s greatest strengths.

Because it is only 28 episodes, the pacing remains consistently fast. The story never slows down unnecessarily, and almost nothing feels dragged out. Every revelation, conflict, and development arrives at the right time.

It is also surprisingly easy to follow. Despite being filled with political schemes and court intrigue, I never found it overly complicated. The story remains straightforward enough to understand while still feeling rich and layered.

The drama includes romance, palace politics, the imperial harem, household conflicts, military affairs, betrayal, alliances, and power struggles. However, I would not primarily describe it as a romance drama. It is much more of a political and court-intrigue drama, and that is where it truly excels.

The plot is constantly moving, the twists keep coming, and the villains are genuinely allowed to be villainous. The drama keeps raising the stakes without becoming exhausting or confusing.

The production was also beautiful. The styling was elegant, and I especially appreciated the lack of excessive beauty filters. The actors looked more natural, and the visual presentation suited the darker tone of the story.

The soundtrack was another major highlight. It is easily one of my favorite OSTs of the year, especially the song performed by Hou Minghao. I was completely obsessed with it. I could never skip the opening or ending songs, and honestly, the entire soundtrack was excellent.

In a nutshell, Key to the Phoenix Heart is simply a very well-made drama.

It has strong performances, excellent pacing, memorable characters, beautiful styling, great action, political intrigue, emotional relationships, and an amazing OST. I genuinely have very few complaints.

My only real wish is that it had been longer. I could easily have watched 40 episodes because I loved the characters and the world that much. I especially wanted more time for some of the side relationships and a slightly fuller conclusion.

Still, the drama completely exceeded my expectations. It was entertaining from beginning to end, and I cannot recommend it enough.

It is easily one of my favorite dramas of the year.

So cute and nostalgic!

I absolutely loved and adored this show! This was so cute and so wholesome! It's been my favorite thing airing the past 12 weeks and am so sad that it's over. I love AlmondProgress and KenPaul, so I was happy to see them in a new show! All of these guys are just incredible actors!! It was my first time seeing Keaton and Justin and they were great actors as well. I love that over this show we got to see them go from young high schoolers all the way through them graduating college. Seeing all of them grow up was so nice to see. This show just gave me so many nostalgic feelings throughout it even though I didn't go through much of what they did, it still gave that feeling of nostalgia and youth and I loved that.

Ko and Ko:
Ko (Progress) was so funny! I loved seeing that he was more than just a funny guy though as well. We really got to see a lot of different sides of him and I loved that. Ko (Almond) was so smart and so loving. I loved that we got to see him go from someone a bit more reserved to someone goofier and more open with his feelings. I thought it was pretty cute that they had the same name and loved the nicknames they gave each other. Them going from neighbors to friends to boyfriends was so beautiful to see. I just loved seeing how their feelings for each other kept developing. They really grew a lot with each other as a couple as well as individuals. They had so many sweet moments together, it was too cute!! Even when they had issues, they seemed to work it out pretty quickly which was nice to see. Almond and Progress did such an incredible job playing these roles. The confession in the rain really showed how great of actors these boys are.

Augur and Aichi:
I'm going to put Aichi in my pocket, he is so stinking cute! He's such a sweetie and I loved seeing him get a little sassier as he got older. I loved how good of a friend Augur was to everyone. He really helped a lot of relationships develop if you think about it. I loved these two together so much. Seeing them go from friends to boyfriends was so sweet. I loved how they just went everywhere together and seeing Aichi be Augur's number one supporter with basketball. Their confession to each other was so cute and so flirty, I loved it! I was shocked that they argued so much when they were in college, but I loved what Augur said about it all in the end.

August and Tle:
We have to address the elephant in the room before anything else with these two and that is Justin. Obviously because of what Justin did, it effected the screentime for August and Tle in episodes 11 and 12. We barely saw Tle at all (I don't think he was in more than one shot in the finale) and he wasn't even mentioned other than that. We did still see August because of group shots and things like that, which I have no issue with. I personally wish they would've just left those scenes with August and Tle in because it did feel very incomplete and like Tle was just written out of the show. What Justin did was in no way shape or form okay, but that being said I do think we should blame the actor and not the character. I mean because of this, poor Keaten was basically written out of the last two episodes and that is not fair to him, or the characters August and Tle at all. I did really think August and Tle had some cute moments together and was looking forward to seeing where that relationship would go, but all well.

I just absolutely adored this show and despite the last two episodes being a little shorter because of the Justin situation, I'm not going to take any points of my rating off because of that. This show was just so wholesome and so enjoyable to watch. These boys all had great chemistry together, whether that was romantic or not, and I loved this friend group so much! We need more shows like this!! So stinking cute!!
