Serving: Coherent Storyline, tightly-woven plot, Mischievous Leads & FL who's 100% Beauty & Brains

"Smooth talkers often disguise themselves as someone loyal and virtuous. Those who are truly honest and sincere may be clumsy with words, but they act with integrity." - Xu Yao

Before anything else, let me just declare that what made this show thoroughly entertaining and compelling was not the modern-era gags and references, but the consistent, progressive writing that carried the story from the beginning to its conclusion.

I mean... yes, the comic-like transitions, chibi animations, and modern gimmicks were a lot of fun, and I immensely enjoyed them. However, as the story progressed and those scenes were constantly served up, they started to feel bland. I began feeling cloyed just thinking they might shove them in our faces for the rest of the show. Having them for the first two episodes was entertaining, but by the 3rd time, it became concerning enough that it actually bothered me. That is why I was truly delighted and relieved when they toned it down in the 4th episode, shifting the focus toward the pressing issues and central conflicts. It saved the show from an early demise by preventing the story from dragging, keeping viewers thrilled for what was coming next.

I really appreciate that they didn't overutilize the modern-age trope and instead spent just enough time on it to catch the audience's attention and build hype before proceeding to the actual conflicts of the story. I'm glad they were aware of their limitations and weren't shameless in exploiting those elements. If they hadn't been so disciplined, this show wouldn't have earned such a strong reputation and high ratings among casual viewers.

Another praiseworthy aspect of this show was its tight storyline and coherent plot. The scheming and conflicts are well-calculated and truly brought so much fun and excitement to the show. I love how the plots were laid out carefully in accordance with the lead's strategy. And although the main conflict of the story seemingly rendered the protagonists helpless and in a dire situation towards the climax, I like that they had contingency plans which made the situation manageable.

I admit the multiverse within confused me for quite some time; however, it was not to the point where it bothered me. Because the story explains itself as it progresses—like how typical plots unfold. It instead encouraged me to focus more on the show by reading the subtitles diligently in order to fully comprehend the story.

I also want to note that they did a brilliant job with Bei Shu's cause of death. He was set up as the world's strongest, so it was only reasonable that the only person who could defeat him was himself—because no one among the antagonist force could ever measure up to him. It was such a smart move because I wouldn't have accepted it if he had been captured and then defeated by a number of fodder soldiers. There is just no way they could have done so under the story's given circumstances.

In terms of the ending, I’d say it was executed satisfyingly. It’s well-paced, climactic, and features a happy ending, even after they wake up from the illusion or exit the dream they were in.

I also have to acknowledge the savory chemistry between our leads. I love how their minds are so perfectly aligned, as if they share the same logic. I’m especially impressed by the FL (Yu Wanyin); I really look up to her for being so rational and understanding, even during those mind-boggling, conflicting scenes that typically cause a rift between leads. The main reason they avoid those typical misunderstandings is her maturity; she is the epitome of making smart decisions under pressure. I also just love it when the ML (Xiaohou Dan) reaches for the hem of her dress, tugging it gently to ask for attention or forgiveness.

Let me just mention how extremely proud and fascinated I am of Tang Xiaotian here. I have never seen him act as a villain before, so it was really refreshing to see him play one. It was a new feeling for me, and even though I can't say I like him taking on this kind of role (because he will always look kind and gentle to me), I'd say that he did a considerably impressive job on this one. Now, I'm stuck in between wanting him to remain the kind 2nd lead who always gives way to the ML, or an unapologetic antagonist who schemes his way to a ruthless victory. Geez. Haha!

And oh, before I even forget: kudos to the styling team of this show. Gosh! Wang Churan was fucking glowing each and every moment I saw her. From the head accessories to the makeup and dresses, they nailed it so hard I fell even more in love with her. I know it’s weird and totally opposite of the glam and glitters I mentioned above, but my most fave look of her is definitely the assassin look she has when rescuing the ML. Her holding a gun and dressed in black rendered me speechless—she is so badass and attractive.

To finally wrap this up, I just want to mention that my favorite and probably the most hilarious scene of all was in episode 22. When the Empress Dowager was in that wheelchair—paralyzed and unable to move or speak—but she still had to maintain a dignified posture, so Eunuch An tried so hard, multiple times, to keep her head straight, but it kept falling no matter what. I was dying of laughter. it was such a satisfying, well-deserved scene.

P.S. Let me just say it here. The "How are you? I'm fine, thank you! And you?" line becomes cringier and increasingly gross the more they use it. ><

Story - 9.5, I keep looking back on the story and my time watching it, and I must say that I had a good time. I would have given it a lower rating if they had shamelessly fed us modern-day antics continuously, but they did not. I appreciate that they kept those at bay and only incorporated such scenes during the less serious moments, and not during the conflict scenes. Loving the revolver handgun, though!

Acting/Cast - 10, What a set of brilliant actors and actresses! I love both of the leads, Cheng Lei and Wang Churan, but what made this show even more enjoyable were the second leads, Hu Yixuan and Tang Xiaotian. All of them did an amazing job with their character execution.

Music  - 9.5, I'm actually not a big fan of the overall musical feel of this drama, but I would say that I find the songs quite fun to listen to. I love the slow and romantic ballads, but the ending song in particular is what made an impression on me. It reminded me of the Hamtaro OST. Cute!

Rewatch Value - 9.5, Definitely a rewatch-worthy. It's one of those dramas that kept its sanity and shamelessness in check, so each scene felt just right and wasn't exaggerated.

Overall - 9.5, I was planning to give it a 9.0, but I can't really find a justifiable reason to do so. The story was well-written—the plots are interconnected and were never confusing. Plus, they kept all the absurdities at bay. Not to mention that we got such highly compatible leads and a lovable 2nd FL. I'm extremely satisfied with this show.

What The Hell is This...

Sigh, Oh JoongDunk, when will there be a series of yours that I can enjoy and/or not drop? We still haven’t crossed that threshold, and Dare You to Death has done absolutely nothing to help. Instead, we get inept cops doing a spectacularly terrible job at preventing a group of college students from dying in a murderous game of Truth or Dare, paired with some of the weakest chemistry I’ve ever seen between JD.

Let's Dive In.

Dare You to Death was my least anticipated GMMTV series of 2025, and... oh look at that, I was right!

Contrary to popular belief (or at least based on any JD series I’ve rated or dropped), I actually really enjoy both of these actors in real life. I think a big part of their appeal comes from their personalities individually and the dynamic they share off-screen. I haven’t always been sold on them as an on-screen pairing, and unfortunately this series hasn’t changed that for me. What has grown over the years is my respect for them as performers and their call-outs to some of the most annoying, crazed fans in the BL fandom. What hasn’t changed is my frustration with the roles and stories they’re consistently given. Maybe their upcoming 2026 series, "How to Survive My CEO," will finally be the one that clicks for me. As of now though, none of their projects have really delivered anything that resonates, and honestly, I hate that for them.

Moving on to the story: Surprise! I didn’t like it. Ironically, I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed the beginning. The murder mystery had potential, and I found myself intrigued by the dynamic between Jade and Kamin. Jade being completely head-over-heels from the start was fun, and Kamin clearly enjoyed the attention even while pretending he didn’t. So what went wrong? The writing. They throw in a sudden mutual kiss in episode three, and it completely derails the cat and mouse tension they had been building so well. From that point forward, this series just plummets.

Alike a lot of others, I don't appreciate the rush of their relationship. I was hoping the show would lean more toward something like Manner of Death, where the romance sits comfortably as a subplot to the larger mystery. It feels oddly corny watching these characters investigate a brutal murder spree while simultaneously flirting, teasing, and kissing every few scenes. And the chemistry just… isn’t there. Even though I’m not the biggest JD fan, I usually think their chemistry is one of the strongest aspects of their shows. Here, something is missing. It’s like I'm eating a slice of cake and realize I somehow forgot to add the sugar. Everything works on a physical level, as it usually does with them, but emotionally there’s a disconnect that makes their relationship hard to invest in.

As for the “whodunit” murder mystery, it ends up being incredibly anticlimactic. For a while, the mystery was the only thing keeping me watching, but the reveal feels obvious and underwhelming. I also really dislike the trope where the victim turns out to be the killer. It’s rarely satisfying, and it definitely wasn’t here.

Positive aspects: Fluke looked gorgeous in this, please give him someone to kiss, and soon. Pahn !! urgh, I love her. It was also nice seeing Aou and Boom, but beyond that there isn’t much else to highlight.

Rating:

Story: 5/10 - It starts off with some promise but quickly loses momentum. The romance fails to carry the show, and the truth ot dare killer mystery becomes disappointing by the end.

Acting: 7/10 - Fine. Nothing to write home about it.

Music: 6/10 - Wasn't distracting.

Recommendation Value: 2/10 - Not worth it unless you're a diehard JD fan. Otherwise, just move on!

Absolutely Wonderful

At first I just wanted to see all the guys like they showed in trailer, of course I stayed for the same.
But I was amazed how wonderfully it was made. Netflix has done it again. The plot, the combination with technology which was believable and wishful (honestly people should just make it, I will earn money and spend on it, hey tech guys, you listening?), the cast and surprisingly, the acting. I was so amazed to see such good acting from all the actors, including side characters and all others. I know Jisoo has not explored much but she nails this type of character, maybe because she is exactly like this? And I was not a fan of the actor, but wow, he enchanted me in this one. He is good.
The kiss scenes were also good? honestly I was surprised but they had good kiss scenes.

Boyfriend on Demand is a fun and lighthearted romance that perfectly mixes humor, chemistry, and emotional moments. The story follows a fake-dating setup that quickly turns into something much deeper, keeping readers entertained from start to finish. The characters feel relatable, and their banter adds a lot of charm to the story.

Watch it at your own risk

I watched this amazing movie on 1 March 2026. The problem is that if I say even a little more, it may become a spoiler. So just go and watch the movie.

At the beginning, it feels like a normal cute high school romance. But as the concept of amnesia (memory loss) becomes deeper, the story turns very heartbreaking and tragic. It becomes a real emotional rollercoaster. The movie shows the importance of small moments in life, friendship, and memories.

By the time the movie reaches the end, it becomes very emotional. I was almost about to cry, so you can understand. Watch it at your own risk. But if you can handle it and finish the movie, you will keep a beautiful story in your memories.

I should also say that the movie is not completely logical. There are some flaws, but when the story reaches its peak, you will ignore them. For me, this movie is 8 out of 10.

Content Type: Movie (Japanese Live-Action Film)
Genre: Romance, Drama, Slice of Life, Tragedy
Writer/Director: Directed by Takihiro Miki. Screenplay by Yoshikazu Okada, based on the novel by Ichijo Misaki.

It’s never easy to start developing feelings for your best friend’s brother. That kind of situation is always complicated, filled with hesitation and unspoken emotions.

Watching the story unfold makes you wonder how everything will turn out in the end. Love rarely follows a simple path, especially when friendship and loyalty are involved.

This drama promises something unique in the romcom world and delivered more than that

I honestly just finished binging this and I am still thinking about it. I wasn't sure what to expect with the whole virtual boyfriend thing, but I ended up being so hooked. Jisoo was definitely the best part of the whole show for me. She was so good at playing someone who is just completely done with everything, and her acting felt really natural, especially when she was being awkward or stressed out at her job. It didn't feel like some fake TV version of a person; it felt like someone you actually know. The mix of the high-tech dating stuff and the regular office drama worked way better than I thought it would.

BOD dates are fun & unrealistic but reality is emotional

this is a light romcom, no hidden or messy plot. just clear & purely romcom with a little emotional touch in some episodes. Jisoo as Seo Mirae & Seo Inguk as Park Kyungnam is well written characters & both actor & actress portrayed their characters so well. Early episodes shows Seo Mirae using the apps to go on fun dates as she's not interested doing so in real life. She is supposed to be a cringe character when using the unrealistic dating apps. In half the series we actually get something from the main characters about their feelings. and gradually creating more tensions in real life. towards the end of the series it's getting more intense & we finally get a proper closure for them. the slow burn romance might be boring for people who enjoy pure comedy or thrill seekers, but it made me feels emotional & rooting for the main characters.

GIVE ME MOREEEE !!!!!

This drama was so good that i watched it instead of studying for my boards exam !!!! The lead actress is so good, she portrayed her character with such ease that it didn't feel like acting and her chemistry with the male lead !!!!! All the dynamics were portrayed in such a warm and authentic manner that it felt as if i was with my own family, everyone had their good and bad sides, their struggles and traits that made me wanna root for them. The message about the importance of family, education and woman empowerment touched my heart. The cast members were so good at playing their character ad the music !!!! The painting and draws were also beautiful !!! WRITER AND ARTIST DUO WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY HEART !!!!

Eps. 1-10 are excellent, but it had trouble getting from there to the ending it wanted to have

I really loved the start of this one! The first ten episodes were excellent — solid performances from all actors and the chemistry was perfect. I actually quite liked the plot line/commentary on the entertainment industry, which felt like it elevated the show. The pacing generally felt good until about episode 10. I can’t underscore enough how great the acting and chemistry was from the main couple. So good! Really well done, including the breakups and crying scenes.

However, the show falters in episodes 11-12. It seemed to only sort of complete all the plot lines and requires the audience to fill-in-the-blanks. There were closeups on a few different highlighted details that never came back into the story or we have to assume what happened with them. In the last two episodes, there was too much flashback and not enough story for the amount of story the show seemed to actually wanted to tell. Ultimately, Love After Addiction was trying to do too much with the number of episodes/minutes it had.

“Qin & Duang set a standard no one can reach!"

“Duang With You” — a genuine, ACTUAL HEALTHY love story.

I will NEVER get enough of Qin and Duang. NEVER.

Let me say this LOUD and CLEAR — THIS is the STANDARD. THIS is what REAL LOVE looks like.

This drama made me realize things I have NEVER seen before…
Love is not talking all day.
Love is not just intimacy.
Love is not only being soft and lovey-dovey.

Love is staying.
At their best. At their worst.
LOVE IS NEVER EVER BACKING OFF FROM YOUR PERSON.

And this drama? It’s HEALING.
I’m literally sobbing while writing this 😭

Choosing the BL universe was the BEST thing that ever happened to me, and this drama proved it.

This is not a masterpiece…
This is something BEYOND that.

The audacity this drama has to pull someone out of their trauma and feel like therapy???

Yeah… I’m never moving on.❤️

Perfect binge watch for the weekend

As a woman the themes in this drama hit too close at home for comfort so yes, it deserves a 10/10. The FL is scared of feelings that change in a relationship, she resorts to AI fantasy only to realise that what she wants, exists in reality but it comes with all the traps of real life.Yet she's willing to live for the moment and not let an uncertain future intimidate her. A wonderful mature romcom approach to a universal relationship dilemma: safety or life?

strong start...boring second half.

let's get this out of the way. did I like this drama? yes. is it perfect? nothing is perfect.

plot: we follow a group of teenagers throughout their highschool and uni years and witness their growth.

let's start with the positives:

this is a very sweet drama. the representation of youth and everything around it comes off as sweet and relatable.

I like how the drama shows different kinds of family dynamics (single parents, busy parents, brother rivalry, etc) and personal emotions.
this is a slice of life show and especially in the first half this is done quite well and in a very sweet and enjoyable way.

the main ml is very sweet and reminds of a younger Esther yu. the cast was a good choice and the characters are all funny and well portrait.

the soundtrack is very pleasant and "youth feeling".

onto the negatives:

I liked that the main ml is not the usual asshole. he is of course the representation of the "cold guy" but he is not mean in any way compared to others teenager dramas. on the other hand he is literally a stone wall. I feel most of the time the FL is talking to her self while he is there touching his neck, smirking and coughing.
not really a thrilling characters. but he is a nice guy.

the series in itself feels really predictable. there isn't much of a plot going on and even though it is sweet to experience all these moments with the cast it starts to feel pretty boring mid way.
especially reaching episode 17 I felt we weren't going anywhere.
the characters don't really develop. there stay the same even though time passes and their dynamics stay still.
that's one of the reasons I feel the show should have ended when they finished highschool.
we kinda see where they are heading and I feel there wasn't really a need for a "detailed" ending.

the college episode are frankly so boring and inconsequential. I admit I skipped basically all of them fast forwarding to the part where Jia Jiang and Guan run (I forget their names😅) get together.
frankly speaking at a certain point I was more invested in their dynamic than into the main couple.

speaking of the main couple, watching them grow closer was sweet but also "blue balls inducing". at a certain point I asked myself what was the point. they grew closer but It didn't look like they were acting trying to date or anything else.

personal observation:
this stems from a personal perspective but watching some Chinese show is sometimes painful. being westerners is hard to sympathize with family forcing their kids to stop living to just study. teachers prohibiting literally teenagers to date is something I cannot wrap my head around. especially giving the fact that many household expect their kids to get married as soon as they graduate uni. I am sorry. you keep your kids celibate for years and then expect them to procreate without any experience....
I know at the end this is just a cultural clash with I am used to on a certain level.

overall this is a very sweet drama especially when it comes to friendship.
should you watch it? it depends on how much your care about a plot or if you just enjoy vibes.
