Realistic Slice of Life. Nothing is perfect until you accept it

This is a good series showcasing not just the transition of China into its new economy but also the lives of normal people. No one is perfect and each has his or her own flaws and strengths. Everyone has a reason for their actions but in the end what matters is one accepts him or herself and the person around them.

The romance is not dramatic or flashy. Not even a single proper kiss scene but you can feel their love. The adolescent love between ML and FL is realistic. Most of us have gone through this and gave up in the end as we all grow apart. It particularly touches my heart as it’s exactly what I went through when I left for overseas studies which is my personal dream, yet I knew that the love of my life will be gone. The drama accurately portrays this and the angst that two young lovers had to face.

The rests of the older characters are so good too. They show us how a poor working community takes care of one another and there’s real happiness in it No need flashy cars or houses. Just good colleagues and neighbours..

Acting wise this is my first drama with Johnny Huang. He looks good and acts well. I look forward to more of his dramas. As for Wang Tian Chen I think he has done enough SML roles and it’s time he gets ML roles soon. If I were a toothpaste company I will hire him as my model. His smile is so bright and nice.

Overall a good watch if you like some good slice of life stories instead of heavy dialogue and makeup.

Trauma-ful drama

Going to keep it short
1. Watched it in 2020 and it sent me in a depressives state that i promised not to watch it again. From i remember it was just sad that i didn’t havw the heart to recommend it to anyone.
2. Ending was rushed i didnt understand the ending but i cried like a baby.
3. Could have added an additional of 2-3 eps to guve a clean and elaborate ending.
4. The confusion starts towards the end after the individual’s death, which does make you wonder why you started it but if you could make up your own understanding of what happened you can get through it but any conclusion is going to be depressing.

Very Underrated drama with an amazing plot

Feel like this is not talked about enough since its not available to watch on platforms, i was so into the plot from the beginning that i went to deep search from different channels, telegram etc and finally was able to watch all eps. Thats the kind of effort im willing to put if i think the drama is going to be interesting and good. It never disappointed me for wven a second and binged watched it in a day. If you do ind a way to watch this drama especially into mystery/crime this is definitely for you.
The three characters jeong yu, sang cheol and ha seol really gave their characters justice till the end. The ending is so good that it definitely deserves a rewatch in the future; that is if i eventually forget who the mastermind is which is not happening.
Just want to erase this from my memory and watch it again

Struggles by the youth in china beautiful portrayed

1. The acting is so on point and does not leave any gaps in between for skips.
2. All eps gave an precise amount of screentime which helped build an excellent story flow which interconnected the problems faced.
3. Trying to find similar dramas but nothing could come close to this, its overall a very different experience to watch it.
4. As someone who never rewatches dramas, movies etc…this is definitely something im coming back to.

6. Acting and emotions were not overly done, it was just perfect. Im in love with this drama.

One of the Best Chinese Dramas of 2026

This is a really good drama with a strong story and many interesting side characters. What stood out the most to me is Yan Xun. His transformation into the villain feels completely justified, and you understand every reason behind his actions
I really love that he has his own storyline and depth instead of being a simple bad guy. It makes the drama much more emotional and realistic. realistic.

The bones of this story could have held more more depth and emotional complexity than the scriptwriter(s) chose to give this version. It's good, it moves, but aside from the violence much of it was too easy a watch for the subject matter.

From a comment on the 1998 original: "New version is nice, but the characters here [1998] are more complex." That fits with my impressions of the remake - that key characters were simplified in the retelling, like the scriptwriter was following a pattern. It's good, but it could have been richer. Instead it's a fairly straightforward young love that cannot be romance set amongst a twisty crime lakorn.

Late twists were great though, with changing alliances (how much of that was copied from the original?), surprises and in the last episode some scenes with more of the emotional depth the premise held. The very end though didn't work for me.

I'm of two minds about posting this because it's probably better if you don't think about it that much. I enjoyed it, I just wanted something which lived up to the premise's promise.

Legend of Many Female Generals

The story of Rebirth is stellar. It is a slight disadvantage to have not read the book, but that is compensated by slowing down and reading all the words. Streamed on VIKI and iQIYI, VIKI is always better with subtitles, but IQIYI has enhanced its picture quality. The visuals are so stellar now.

Rebirth is the Legend of many Female Generals, as women dominate this story with two male leads.

The main heroine is a mighty Slave girl who has been trained as a Spy and Military General, and who has acute Martial Arts skills. However, there are so many great women parts in Rebirth, even a woman scorned, who wins many bonus points in her attempts to get even.

The opening 17 minutes of episode 1 of ‘Rebirth’ is highly cinematic and powerful. The audience quickly gets a film explanation of the story and the backstory after the dramatic opening sequence (the story comes from a novel). There is so much information given, but the information is necessary to the up-coming action. I had to pause and rewind a few times to make sure that all that significant information being given was registered. ‘Rebirth’ is a very complex story of friends to enemies who are torn apart by love and politics of expedience. The story also is about a savage hierarchy, mystery, murderous intent and deception, and a slave girl who fights the slave system that binds her. One thing I can say is that I did not get bored. Rebirth is adapted from the novel "The Legend of Chu Qiao: Division 11's Princess Agent" by Xiao Xiang Dong Er. This is the sequel to Princess Agent.

Something else about Rebirth is that like products are “not stealthily placed throughout Asian dramas”, there is plenty of eye candy to keep you moving along. There are many shirtless reveal moments to discover.

A Bittersweet Do-over

The bland looking poster made me think this was going to be a sweet romcom, but instead it's a sentimental character growth story of a young girl desperate to fix past mistakes. It’s not really a novel concept, but what makes it fresh and engaging is the rather unsympathetic and selfish heroine, Hua Qian, whom you can’t help but root for anyway, largely thanks to Zhou Ye’s compelling acting. Even though romance takes the backseat to HQ’s journey, I have to say Zhou Ye and Wang Xingyue had good chemistry and both looked incredibly beautiful in this drama, bringing all the charm and eye candy I could wish for^^

Initially, HQ’s motivation did not stem from wanting to redress past wrongdoing but rather avoid the steep price she had been made to pay for it. It took time for her to actually change her way of thinking and start to genuinely repent. Unfortunately, she’s one of just a handful of interesting characters in this drama. Out of the three MLs only Wang Xingyue tried to infuse his character with some depth and charisma. Both Peng Chuyue’s and Zhan Yijie’s performances were flat and uninspiring, and the SFL’s (Zhao Qing) acting was telenovela level bad. I believe that with different casting choices the story could've had much more emotional gravity.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I actually liked the ending, especially the realism of it. I thought it was well-scripted and true to the themes of personal growth, self-forgiveness and atonement. It also firmly kept the heroine in the center of the story avoiding any fairytale cliches.
Of course, I wouldn’t say no to an epilogue giving us a glimpse into their lives in the future, but I’m just as happy imagining it for myself …or maybe my expectations for c-drama endings are so low, this one seemed good in comparison;))

Cinematography and Chemistry is Top-Notch

The main point of this drama is the chemistry between the leads and the cinematography.

Although beware, I think they used AI on some parts. I agree to everyone saying this is ZLH's best look ever, you will really have a moment of just admiring his face while watching especially with the camera angles, it was beautifully done.

Lin'an arc was the best, and then just like any other cdrama out there, the politics plot just kept on coming and there's so much going on.

I love the alternate universe ending so much!!! Although there were no second wedding, featuring an alternative ending was also a good choice especially since they were able to show the nephew-uncle duo.

Bravo, My Patience! A Lesson in How to Desecrate a Decent Premise.

This is going to be a bit lengthy but please bear with me. Bravo, My Life is a textbook example of a decent story idea that was ultimately desecrated by poor execution and a total lack of common sense. The premise, a 19 year old girl (Seo Dong-hee) becoming a single mother to her nephew after her brother is killed in a hit and run had massive potential. This is especially true when you consider she was forced into this life after her brother’s wife, Baek Seung-joo (if she even qualifies as a "wife") abandoned her newborn for a teenager to raise.
However the actual experience of watching this was a chore as the writing was riddled with massive plot holes that made the 120 episode journey irritating to endure. That isn't to say there weren't bits I enjoyed, I particularly liked the early stage bickering between Dong-hee and Cha-yeol when they first started working together.

The next issue I couldn't stand was the caricature like acting. This story required deep emotional resonance but the performances were overwhelmingly stale or just plain bad. While the actress playing Dong-hee is decent, her character was written poorly, it felt like a relic from an early 2000s K-drama. If you dropped her into Boys Over Flowers or Playful Kiss, she would fit right in. She made one dumb decision after another reaching a point where it felt like it went beyond "I’m kind or forgiving" to "I’m mentally retarded and like to be walked over." Tell me why she kept smiling at Baek Seung-joo after the lady told her to her face she didn't like her and that she purposely threw away the gift Dong-hee bought for her? Or when Baek Seung-joo was jealous and kept being mean and malicious to her at work because of Cha-yeol, why are you still acting nice to this lady? She tried to get you fired for goodness sake! Her "goody-two-shoes" persona went beyond virtue into pure stupidity like when she allowed a coworker to steal her mood board and take credit for work she had spent all night completing.

Now unto the person responsible for this hot mess: the director. The director is arguably the person most responsible for this "hot pile of trash." With a competent director this could have been a fun watch. The first thing I noticed was the sets, my goodness they were bad! The house for the wealthy family who owned a fashion business made no sense, I tried but couldn't make sense of what their home was supposed to be. I know budget plays a role but this was the worst house set I have ever seen. It would have been better if they had just replicated an IKEA showroom. Nearly 80% of the locations were obviously cheap sets that stripped away any sense of realism making the drama feel like a low budget stage play. (I will give them credit though the cars the wealthy characters drove were actually nice.) I even blame the director for the flat characters, a little direction could have added nuance to these two dimensional caricatures turning them into actual human beings because the core characterization was good but the execution was bad. The writers had potential but stupidity from them and everyone else in charge of creative decisions ruined it.

Then the acting from everyone was subpar with the exception of Cha-yeol, Bang Hye-ran and Baek Seung-joo and maybe Dong-hee and Choi Mi-kyung. Kang Sung-wook however was arguably the worst. I couldn't understand why the right corner of his lips was always lifted, the man literally smiled his way through his own divorce and through the entire film. No matter the gravity of the situation at hand you could trust him to smile it away.

The wardrobe department was another disaster and a dunce was in charge of dressing the actors. Why was it that only the men were well dressed, along with Baek Seung-Joo’s mother, Bang Hye-Ran who in my opinion was the best dressed in the show. At the beginning Dong-Hee was supposed to be a struggling single mother who did not go to university and worked a minimum wage job yet she and her son Him-chan wore pristine, newly minted clothing. So tell me how could she afford these clothes not only herself but Him-Chan (her son) too. And why were their pajamas perfectly ironed? Why was Him-chan dressed like a "little young master" instead of a child of a struggling mother living in a one room at the restaurant backroom? If she earns minimum wage this shouldn't be possible. It would have made more sense for their clothes to look cheap or rumpled at first then slowly improving as their situation did.

Baek Seung-Joo was another person whose wardrobe I couldn't stand looking at. She was supposed to be the team leader in a fashion company but I couldn't understand what was going on with her wardrobe. Sometimes she was well dressed and other times she looked like an ordinary office worker. Isn't she supposed to look to the nines? Aren't they creating some of the best clothing in the fashion industry in Korea? And she is in charge of this but doesn't dress the part? Even after marrying the owner's son her wardrobe never received the "rich daughter-in-law" upgrade you’d expect. Her mother was better dressed than her, they gave the woman even better color combos.


Then there was the hair. Never in my over 15 years of K-drama watching have I seen a drama this long not change a single person’s hair throughout its 120 episodes. Oh wait, the writer lady had a slight glow-up but everyone else? The same way you met them is the way they stayed until the end. Not one person had their hair cut or color changed or their hairstyles switched up. Baek Seung-Joo had her hair packed up from the beginning, to her wedding (yes, I’m serious her wedding hairstyle was the exact same as every other day) to the very end of the show. No straightening, curling, perming or anything happened to any character despite the show supposedly spanning 9 years!


Finally, I have to mention Him-chan. I didn't want to do this but I did not like Him-Chan’s acting and I think this could be attributed back to the director. This boy is still a child and needs proper direction especially when displaying emotions however all through the drama we got the exact same expressions. All he ever did was smile. When his future stepfather was in a coma, he was smiling while praying. You scold Him Chan, he smiles. He meets strangers who by the way he shouldn't be talking to and he's smiling again. His character was also poorly written. He was the picture of a perfect child, kinda like a miniature version of Dong-Hee. He only acted out once when he broke his hand but aside from that one time he never misbehaved or acted out. Frankly, I'm not sure the writer has ever been around a child that age because even the most well mannered child has their hair pulling moments, the only difference is that it's not often. Ironically Him-Chan’s constant smiling made me think he should have been cast as Kang Sung-wook’s son instead.


If you read till this stage, thank you that couldn't have been easy as this took me quite a while to write. I don't know if you agree with everything I said or if you see my point. Please note I did not hate the drama as I watched it till the very end, I just hate how a really good drama was handled poorly and lost its potential to be a really good show. If you are looking for family oriented dramas that are better executed try “Father is Strange” (my personal best, there wasn't a single plot hole here and yes it's a long form series as well) and “Stars Falling from the Sky” this one is what Bravo, My Life wished it could've been, it's also about a struggling single mother who was forced to take of children that aren't hers.
