Wow. The tears really came with this one. 😭

I was only planning to watch one episode, but somehow that turned into all eight. I just couldn’t stop watching.

This is a truly beautiful queer series, filled with emotion and heart. It stayed with me long after it ended.

Please watch it!

First of all, I'd like to applaud this series for doing a specific thing, and that is, grabbing my attention for long!
Usually, when I see 12 episodes with every episode being over an hour, I feel agitated, I'm afraid that it contains a lot of fillers that will eventually make me drop it.

But not this time! The plot, the actors and the pacing are all very comfortable for me.

Plot:
Very interesting time-travel plot, which I usually like. Set in the Ayutthaya period, it gives you an archaic feel. I never watched a historical Thai drama before, and most of the time-travel BL I read were set in ancient China, so I feel glad to have a new experience and learn more about Thai customs!

It has mystery and romance, and it's a bit slow-burn, which I prefer because I usually get bored if the main couple get together or kiss too fast. Here, you're anticipating it, and even after they're together, you don't get bored, because the story isn't over yet! There's still a mystery to solve!

Actors:
I'm glad I finally have the chance to see Net's handsome face on screen once again! And this time with his new partner JJ!
I hope everyone can support this new pair without making a fuss over the previous one, since they fit each other so well!

The acting was amazing and made my heart ache at times, I also loved JJ's comedic expressions haha they're so unique!

As for the longing in their eyes, oh my lord, it made my heart flutter! Especially Net's deep-as-the-ocean eyes ahhhh

Welcoming our new couple, LatteKim, I'd like to praise them very much as well. The thing I liked best about their acting is how different I felt their present vs. past selves to be, I just couldn't see them as the same person!!

I hope these actors get even better scripts in the future, I'm sure filming a historical piece was hard.

Other:
I loved their costumes, of course, and the archaic tone they spoke in. The rolled r's sound very pleasant to my ears and it lets me learn a bit of ancient Thai speaking, which I'm very interested in.

The lightning was gorgeous, it set the mood right. It complemented the chemistry the actors have together, especially, in that iykyk scene hehehehehe I loved it

Shout out to the servant characters who spoke up for our main couple and gave us some comedic relief ;')

Overall:
If you can, please do watch it. I hope that this series can be more popular in the future and give our actors a lot of success :)
It managed to make me finish 12 long episodes, what else can I say? I'm not usually this patient, nor that interested.

Hehe this little historical forbidden love story is very much worth watching!

Love that transcends a lifetime

Love Upon A Time is that motherfucking Thai BL of the year. Holy plot, it is so well-written. I never read the novel so I have no opinions regarding the adaptation. But as a drama, I must say I never had a boring experience with the show and characters. Phop and Klao/Nakhun really shows how a true great love is. I love this show so much, I am already looking forward to rewatching it in the future. I will miss waiting for Fridays to come just so I can tune in for the newest episode.

The chemistry is amazing, the characters are so well-written and well-rounded. The drama and angst were executed (pun intended) well.

You guys please give Love Upon A Time, the one true greatest love they deserve.

Ps, I can’t wait for more NetJJ and LatteKim projects, I hope they pick up good scripts and plot like this DMD. I am begging you!!!

An Interesting Watch

I watched all 7 episodes. There are ways to find them on the internet...and even if you have to watch the subtitles in a language other than your own, the story line is easily understood.

Gushan is invited to return to China with Yuewen and his fiance'. It seems very clear that Yuewen truly wants to continue his relationship with Gushan...but secretly... as he plans to marry his fiance'. Gushan is heart broken and doesn't want to go to China under those terms with them. He remains in Japan.

Just like Gushan's heart is broken, the glass heart of the blue mushroom poison is broken. Yuewen receives a letter that Gushan has quietly ended his life with the poisonous blue powder.

It's a sad ending.

But....

Now...I know this sounds strange...but we DON'T have to accept the endings that are handed to us. The ending in a series is how the writers perceive the final outcome. It CAN be rejected...and in our own minds we can say, "That's YOUR idea of how it ends...but it's NOT mine." We can change the outcome...change the ending. It is fiction, so our own endings are just as valid as the writers ending.

So...how does my ending go?

Yuewen realizes that the house in Japan is the only world that Gushan knows. He understands that it wouldn't be possible for Gushan to thrive in China. If he were to go through with his plans of selling the house, Gushan would remain in Japan and once again become a wandering lost soul. Yuewen discusses this with his fiance'. Being the kind person that she is, she likes Gushan and wants the best for him. She points out to Yuewen that should he not sell the house they are no worse off than before he ever found out about the inheritance.

Yuewen discovers that his father left a modest trust fund for Gushan...enough for him to live a simple meager life.

He tells Gushan that the house will not be sold...instead, the house will become Gushan's home. Gushan will have to pay for the utilities. His trust fund should more than cover those basic expenses. With an embrace and a passionate kiss Yuewen promises Gushan that he will never leave him...and that he'll travel to Japan for two weeks at the beginning of each new season to stay with Gushan.

Yuewen perceives danger as he reflecst upon the blue mushroom powder. He understands Gushan's vulnerability and propensity towards becoming despondent when he feels abandoned. He decides that the mushroom tank, the mushroom shed and the blue mushroom powder must all be destroyed....or that Gushan in a moment of despair might someday take the poisonous blue mushroom powder to end his own life. Yuewen convinces Gushan to give him the mushroom powder. He then cuts off a small lock of his own hair and carefully places it into the glass heart. Gazing into Gushan's eyes, he places the glass heart and chain around Gushan's neck as though he were placing a ring of commitment on his finger....and seals the commitment with a passionately deep kiss.

Yuewen arranges to have the mushroom shed and the blue mushroom glass tank demolished. After the demolition is completed, Yuewen, his fiance', and Gushan set a fire to the remains of the shed, gazing into it until all that is left are ashes. And among those ashes are the ashes of Yuewen's and Gushan's father. They build a small memorial shrine for the father over the ashes.

Destroyed forever, the blue mushroom will never grow anywhere again.

Yuewen and his fiance' return to China without Gushan. The saddened Gushan remains in Japan..with feelings of uncertainty...teetering on fears of abandonment and hopelessness. But Yuewen texts him daily, throughout the day, every day, reassuring Gushan of his love....promising him that he'll return to their home in Japan very soon.

Yuewen is a man who has been torn into two...he loves his fiance and but he also loves Gushan. At first we're angry with Yuewen but we then remember that it was Gushan who seduced...pushed...and pursued Yuewen. We accept Yuewen's lack of culpability in the precarious and vulnerable position that fate threw him into.

Yuewen's texts are the life line to Gushan that nourish his soul with love and with hope. Remaining in the his home , he retains a sense of safety...of stability.

The beginning of the new season arrives...and along with it Yuewen flies to their home in Japan. He arrives alone....without his fiance'. This impossibly beautiful fairy tale romance between Yuewen and Gushan is possible, after all. For two weeks they live in a dream like bliss.

After two weeks, it's time for Yuewen to return to China. Gushan has come to terms of being in a relationship with a married man. With a sense of relief, he understands that Yuewen is not abandoning him.

The journeys back and forth to Japan continue. After two years Yuewen and his wife have their first child...and name him Gushan after their beloved brother/brother-in-law. Yuewen's wife has no knowledge or suspicion whatsoever of the romance between Yuewen and Gushan. The deception seem unfair...but it's the only compromise that keeps them all emotionally safe.

Yuewen calls Gushan, begging him to fly to China to meet his newborn nephew and namesake....and to accept him as a god son.

Gushan will forever be a timid man...unsure of himself....and lacking the self confidence that he can be a god father to a child. He conveys these concerns to Yuewen. Seeing this reluctance, Yuewen flies to Japan and convinces Gushan to accompany him back to China. When they arrive in China, they're met by Yuewn's wife at the airport.....with the newborn baby Gushan in her arms. With outstretched arms, Gushan rushes towards them, Yuewen at his side. They all embrace in a tear filled group hug.

Gushan had found not only the love of his life...but a family as well. And so, this impossibly beautiful fairy tale love continues, fuller and richer than Gushan could have ever hoped for. It not only survives but it thrives and prospers...and grows.

And so ends Season 1. Season 2 ... just as dreamlike...just as surreal...just as beautiful...will follow.

Just as we truly do...in one way or another...create our own destinies in life, we can choose to create our own endings to the BL series that we watch.

This ending is as real as the writers' ending. Never accept what you don't want to accept.

Just watch the anime instead

I am kind of scared to admit this, but Kiss Him Not Me was the first anime I ever watched. It was what got me into anime and I have seen that series more times than I even want to remember. Now, I have not read the manga so I can't say how things get handled in the actual source material for this film but I do not remember the anime adaptation ever being this misogynistic and fatphobic. This film is a completely different beast compared to the anime, which already was not great when it came to the topics concerning weight and weightloss. Every bit of the campy fun of the anime version (which again, has it's flaws) is gone from this movie adaptation.

There was absolutely no reason to make this film as misogynistic as it is. Every male character in this film adaptation, except Mutsumi, is a raging misogynist. Especially Shinomiya. The things that literal spawn of satan spews out of his mouth are actually inexcusable. Basically, when the main character, Serinuma, gains back her weight after initially losing it, he takes it upon himself to berate her every chance he gets and his excuse for it is that "it's natural for women to want to be beautiful" so he is just "helping her become beautiful again". Also the whole added plot around the school play makes things even worse. The drama club wanted Serinuma to play the main role but they immidiately dropped her after she gained weight again because she "wasn't beautiful anymore" and "didn't fit the role". In the anime at least, after some of the guys are initially quite fatphobic and only liked Serinuma because of her looks, they later realize that they like her because of her personality and that she's beautiful regardless of her weight.

What also really pissed me off was that they basically cut the character of Nishina. Yes, she was in the film for like one scene but in the anime and in the manga she is a part of Serinuma's harem and is pursuing her. I know that some things had to be cut from the movie but I honestly wish they had cut one of the male love interests in her place. It feels really weird when an actual queer character gets cut off from the story but they have no problem playing into the male on male queerbait of it all by having two of the guys act as gay princes in the school play. I understand Serinuma is a fujoshi and that was what she wanted to see, but why couldn't the play feature a fat princess?

In conclucion, this film is terrible. If the premise sounded interesting to you, I would recommend the anime or the manga instead of this garbage. I can't believe this shit came out in 2020...

Best historical storyline series ever

Honestly, I loved the series the story, acting, actors everything it was just wow . I am really grateful to be introduced to the bl world though i discovered it myself but after that I got to know that my bestie was also a bl fan. I have been following P'Net for all his work in Domundi and Mandee work and honesty was seriously excited for this series and he was going to act with his new co-actor and seriously i am happy to see them together their acting is excellent and I love The storyline. Recommend everyone to watch. Love and support from India❤️P'Net and P'JJ waiting for more series from you. Love you both...

Absolutely cinema

It’s not a drama made for K-drama lovers—it’s a drama made for movie lovers.

This wasn’t an easy watch for me because of how heavy and demanding it is. The weight of the story is immense. I genuinely think that if you combined the dialogue from dozens of K-dramas, it still wouldn’t match the sheer amount of conversation packed into this series. It’s so dialogue-driven that I often found myself fully focused on reading and understanding every subtitle just to keep up with the nuances of the conversations.

"We Are All Trying Here" is the perfect title. We're all trying our best, but not everyone succeeds. Feeling jealous of someone else's success is part of human nature—it doesn't automatically mean we hate them. The drama captures that idea beautifully and with remarkable honesty.

The acting across the board is insanely good. Every performance feels authentic, and the opening OST is still stuck in my head.

A masterpiece. Not for everyone, but if you love cinema, character studies, and thoughtful storytelling, this is a must-watch.

Highly recommended.

I found it inspiring

Although I am not sure if such a thing as ERPB exists, I believe that corrupted systems around the world keep going on, where no one can stop them. Still, while I was watching this drama, for once in my life, even if it's delusional, I felt optimistic about the idea itself, that such a system as ERPB in each country would exist, where it would take authority by itself and not be influenced by high-ranking people, and such justice would be brought back to students, teachers, or families. Although the idea seems like a fantasy, I still had a shred of hope that such a thing would exist one day, and fewer students and teachers would commit suicide.

The first film is infinitely better

If you've seen the first Tonde Saitama film, you've basically already seen this one as well. The plot is pretty much the same as in the first installment except this time around, instead of having peanuts stuck in his holes, Gackt gets forcefed takoyaki and has his nipples rubbed and face licked. He also emotionally cheats on his lover, Momomi, with his... brother??? Yeah. They were edging us with that incestuous yaoi. Overall though, I think the fun costume and set designs carried over from the first film to this one and I do love the campness of it all. Other than that this movie was pretty boring, since they basically copy and pasted the story from the first film. Another big flaw in my eyes was the fact that Momomi had very little screentime and was basically replaced by Gackt's brother as a love interest, well, until he wasn't of course, because they are brothers. Yeah idk man, I think this would've been a lot better with a more original story and if Gackt had made out with more random dudes.

Good but overhyped and overrated

I checked out this drama to see what all the hype was about. And after watching it, I get it — but only partially.

What worked for me: This might be the first time I've watched a drama where bullies actually got exactly what they deserved, delivered in the same way they treated their victims. That was deeply satisfying. The first episode was easily the strongest and hooked me immediately.

However, I do think this drama is overhyped. It's good, but nothing more than that.

The main issue for me was a lack of emotional connection to the characters. Toward the end, I found myself losing interest. I believe the drama would have benefited from featuring fewer individual stories and exploring each one in greater depth. That would have allowed viewers to properly invest in the narrative and the characters. Instead, it felt more like watching a fantasy play out rather than a grounded, emotionally resonant story.

Verdict: Worth watching for the satisfying comeuppance and a strong opening episode. But temper your expectations — this is not the masterpiece the hype might suggest.

A typical Domundi production, quite shallow, quite emotionless...

Also as expected, the review section is flooded with 10, even when it's not even close. The biggest problem the show has is history. And I don't mean if the people in the story really existed or not - that is not the point. All the english reviews are from non-thai people, not knowing about thai history and how gay life was viewed 400 years ago. What I can tell you, is this script is westernized (or even the novel was), because there was no gay hate 400 years ago. All this bullshit hating queer people come from the british influence in the region. Just turn to India and you see what the brits did to them. Gay life was "prosperous" in old india but nowadays it's one of the most homophobic countries in the world. In Thailand there was no gay-hate, even the then so called "3rd gender" was not hated at all.

And when a script is westerized it should reflect that in how actors are styled. Kim may be a very feminine person in real life but the team underscored his feminity in this series which is diametrical of what the script would like us believe: that to be gay was frowed at. If it was so bad in old times, he would try to hide it as best as he could - as many in europe did at that time.

I forgot to write that most Domundi productions are also heteronormalized. One character is clearly the man and the other character is clearly a woman. It's not about two gay man meeting each other.

So for me this is fundamental problem with the whole series. It's not believable for me, because I know the past was not as depicted here. The slapstick comedy did not help either. It's not "I'm the most beautiful Count". Net & Kim delivered their roles, but especially Latte was very stiff and devoid of emotions. JJ improved over the series, but he had his problems with emotional or nc-scenes. It's not bad, but also not great. The script did some stupid things, also they explained the time-travel - which I ask myself - why? It's a fairy tale, no need to explain everything but the revelation that Phob organized all of it from the future, so the past does happen - it's an infinity loop - and makes not much sense. Even when the novel did describe it that way, I would have cut it - because it's an illogical explaination. If he did it in the "now" - he could not have remembered the past, because the altering of the past did not happen - as we see in the first episode when the "history" is explained.

Production quality was mostly excellent, with some nitpicks (audio, ac running in the background), great costumes, overall the quality expected of a Domundi production. But besides that, the story was medicore, not bad, not good, production quality elevated the series a bit. At least it's better then Duang With You 😋. If you like it, that's good for you, but I did expect more.
