the penthouse season 2 is honestly one of those dramas where you know it’s completely insane, but you just can’t stop watching. it’s dramatic, messy, over the top and sometimes you’re literally sitting there like “there’s no way this is happening” 😭 but somehow it still keeps you hooked.

season 2 definitely brings the revenge, betrayals and shocking moments harder than the first season. the story isn’t realistic at all, but i don’t think it’s trying to be. it’s pure makjang chaos, and if you go into it expecting logic you’ll probably get frustrated. but if you accept the craziness, it becomes really entertaining.

the biggest strength is the acting. the cast absolutely carries this drama, especially the villains because they make you hate them while also making you want to keep watching. the emotions, anger and desperation feel so intense that even when the plot gets ridiculous, the performances make it work.

that being said, the writing can be too much sometimes. there are moments where the twists feel endless and some things feel dragged out just for shock value. some characters also make decisions that will have you questioning their choices. but honestly, that’s kind of what makes the penthouse the penthouse.

overall, season 2 is not a perfect drama, but it’s addictive, entertaining and unforgettable. it’s the type of show you complain about while watching but still click “next episode” immediately. if you like revenge dramas with crazy twists, rich people drama and intense characters, this is definitely worth watching.

the biggest strength of this drama is the acting. the cast absolutely carried the show, especially with how intense and emotional their performances were. the villains were so easy to hate, the characters were messy, and everyone brought so much energy that you couldn’t look away.

that being said, the drama is definitely not perfect. some plot twists feel unrealistic, some characters make frustrating choices, and the amount of revenge, secrets, and betrayals can get exhausting. you really have to accept that this is a makjang drama and just enjoy the chaos instead of questioning every single thing.

the music was good and matched the dramatic atmosphere, but it wasn’t the main reason i kept watching. what really makes the penthouse memorable is the suspense, the shocking moments, and the feeling of wanting to know what happens next.

overall, season 1 is a wild ride. it’s not a realistic drama, but it’s entertaining, addictive, and impossible to forget. if you like revenge, rich families, intense drama, and crazy plot twists, you’ll probably enjoy this. it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but for what it’s trying to be, it does a great job.

Gran valor emocional y aprendizaje, imprevisto.

Debo admitir que al principio no tenia demasiada fe pues los primeros capitulos encontraba la historia un poco desordenada y aburrida, sentía que quizás no era mi momento para ver la serie, por lo que las postergue y asi, y de hecho me forcè a verla como hasta el capitulo 5 o 6, pero posterior a eso amè la serie, debes prestar mucha atenciòn a los detalles, al contexto en el que ocurre la historia, la vida, visiòn y personalidad de cada personaje es clave para internalizar y canalizar con la serie y las emociones. Una vez logrado esto ùltimo se logra completamente el objetivo, creo que es una serie que deja muchos aprendizajes sobre la sociedad, los cambios de visiòn del mundo que uno tiene en especial desde la etapa de adolescencia, en la cual se aborda la serie. Excelente, ademàs que los actores tienen una gran capacidad de expresar las emociones de amor, confusiòn, dolor etc. Si bien a veces da como cringe kSJSJK después se entiende todo. I love Fisrtkhao.

This review be may too early to conclude the whole series, but just to give some thoughts about how the story went.
The story revolved around two high school students whose lives were shaped by their own choices or the choices of other people around them. As young people, they may be subject to their parent's decision in the case of Soo Bin or strive hard as in Yi Jae's struggle to break through in the film industry.

Hyeri's character, Yi Jae, may be similar to other people who had a taste of success when she was young. However, her dream to be a successful director didn't come easy. Her struggle was even highlighted when her first love, Soo Bin came into the picture after 10 years as an accomplished director. We may think Soo Bin stole her dream, since he didn't have any when he was young. Yi Jae inspired him.

The story gave us some complication with Soo Bin's father being abusive and possessive. I wonder why they didn't even have the courage to file a police report for his abusive acts. now that Soo Bin is an adult. Even the way that his father thrashed his house is enough evidence to put that man in jail. I wonder what could be the root cause of such behavior? I assume what was revealed in episode 8 could be the root cause of his father's behavior.

As for Yi Jae, there is quite a transformation of character as soon as she recognizes her love for Soo Bin. She may have scars in the past, yet the moment she and Soo Bin reciprocated each other's love, she is somehow healed. Her struggles in life may be about her career, while for Soo Bin it may be his father.

The second leads have their own troubles, but nothing too difficult to handle. I am rooting for them to get out of the struggles with CEO Ahn and truly be free to love each other. I hope their love story won't be crushed.

I am at episode 8 only at this time, so I have no conclusion yet. But let us see how this drama goes.

Needed More Bald Monk

The Blood of Youth was a friendship adventure series full of the exuberance and bravado of youth.

I watched Dashing Youth before this, as it is the prequel even though this was made later. I'm glad I did it that way, as I was somewhat familiar with the characters. It was sad to see some of my favorite characters diminished by loss and time. Baili Don Jun was no longer his carefree self. Sikong Chang Feng had lost his wandering spirit and grown into a capable, mature leader.

Was it just me, or did the two MLs and two FLs feel mismatched romantically? Young and sassy Sikong Qian Luo felt more appropriate with silly, outgoing Lei Wu Jie; elegant Ye Ruo Yi suited reserved Xiao Se much better. I never understood their romances, but I can say the same about couples I know in real life! Thankfully, romance wasn't the focus—brotherhood was.

I was mesmerized by the character of Wu Xin. He needed a larger part in the drama. I missed him when he wasn't part of the action. I'll have to check out Liu Xue Yi's other work. If he's that mesmerizing bald, imagine him with hair!

All in all, a fun romp in the wuxia world.

Un potentiel inexploité

Le thème principal m'intéressait beaucoup mais j'aurais mieux fait d'éviter le synopsis de GagaOolala qui est tout simplement un résumé spoilant toute l'histoire.

Dans l'ensemble j'ai apprécié mon visionnage mais dans le détail, plusieurs choses m'ont déçues.
Tout d'abord le sujet principal inexploité et qui n'aura servi à rien, la maladie de "Xiao He". J'aurais pu arrêter la série quand j'ai vu comment ils ont traité ce moment. ça m'a mis en colère sur le moment même car il y avait tellement de possibilités et de choses à faire.

Pour la suite c'est pareil, je n'ai rien contre le surnaturel mais ici, il ne sert à rien si ce n'est essayer de nous forcer quelques larmes à la fin (c'est raté pour moi).

Et dans la même idée, la tristesse de Jun-jia aurait pu être beaucoup plus développée mais ils ont fait le choix de le faire passer d'un état de tristesse intense à une reprise joyeuse de la vie en un épisode.

Comme j'ai dit, ce n'est pas mauvais et j'ai apprécié la série dans son ensemble car les acteurs sont mignons et que le rythme de la série est agréable mis à part l'un ou l'autre moment de répétition.
La musique aide pas mal aussi car elle est très belle et bien utilisée, un vrai plaisir.

Au final, j'en retiens un bon moment mais avec une énorme frustration, d'une série qui aurait pu être incroyable mais se contente d'être agréable.

Blossoms of Power is one of those dramas that understands the value of taking its time. It never feels rushed, allowing its political intrigue, character relationships, and shifting alliances to develop naturally instead of sprinting from one plot twist to the next. The result is an engaging, consistently entertaining watch that kept me invested from beginning to end, even if I do think it overstayed its welcome by about six episodes. A tighter edit would've made an already strong drama even better.

The cast delivers across the board, with Meng Ziyi giving one of her most mature performances to date. But it's supporting characters whom bring something memorable to the table. And then there's He Yu, who completely steals every scene he's in. His character is an adorable scheming, cheeky little bastard. The kind of morally flexible menace that becomes impossible not to love. He Yu plays him with just the right balance of charm, mischief, and vulnerability, making him one of the drama's biggest highlights.

My biggest complaint has nothing to do with the story itself, but with how it's presented to viewers. The final scene drops a major development with no explanation. No resolution. Just confusion. As it turns out, all the answers are tucked away in a 12 minutes epilogue that's not available on every streaming platform. That means a huge chunk of the audience will finish the drama having more questions than answers. It's an incredibly frustrating decision that undermines an otherwise satisfying ending.

Despite that baffling choice, Blossoms of Power delivers exactly what I want from a political historical drama: compelling performances, clever scheming, characters worth rooting for (or against), and enough emotional payoff to keep me hooked for dozens of episodes. Just make sure your streaming service actually has the epilogue, otherwise, you may walk away scratching your head at the very last minute.

Uno dei BL migliori che abbia mai visto

Questo bl mette insieme tantissime tematiche anche profonde, cosa per nulla comune in questo mondo, che altro dire, gli attori molto bravi ad introdursi nei loro personaggi e il cast è fatto da dio, le cose del manwha sono riportate esattamente uguali nella serie, fantastico. Mi ha preso sin dal primo episodio, sará che sono un amante anche del manwha, ma la serie in sé è fenomenale. Per me è alla pari di un altro noto bl thailandese, ovvero not me, serie che ha dato tantissimo, forse per un gusto soggettivo payback mi è piaciuto di più proprio per le tematiche un po’ cupe, ma d’altronde ci siamo anche un po’ annoiati dei soliti BL!

When Love Survives Even Lost Memories

This drama was a very pleasant surprise. While the beginning took some time to build the characters and their relationships, that foundation ended up being important for the emotional impact later on. Once the story really started moving, it became much more engaging and rewarding.

The biggest strength of this drama for me was definitely the male lead and the main couple. The male lead was such an interesting character because of the contrast between his personalities. At first, we get to see his softer side: powerful, protective, caring, and emotionally expressive. Later, seeing his colder and more ruthless side was actually one of the most entertaining parts of the story. Watching a character who seemed so gentle become someone more distant and dangerous added a different layer to him instead of taking away from his appeal.

The romance was also one of the highlights. Their relationship was not just based on attraction, but on trust, memories, choices, and the feeling of finding each other again despite everything that happened. The memory loss storyline could have easily become frustrating, but I think it worked because it created a completely different dynamic between them and allowed the characters to explore their connection in another way.

The female lead was another strong point. She was capable, independent, and remained consistent as a character. However, I do feel that there were moments where the story focused more heavily on the male lead and her character became slightly less prominent.

The political side of the story was interesting and helped create the conflicts, although for me the emotional journey of the characters was always the strongest part. The villains also added a lot to the drama, especially the Empress. She was chaotic, intense, and honestly one of the most memorable characters. Even though she was completely unhinged, she brought a lot of tension whenever she appeared.

The Emperor was a more complicated character for me. I could understand his actions better towards the end, and he did make some choices that helped the main characters, but I never fully connected with him as a character. Still, he added another interesting layer to the story.

Overall, I think this drama succeeded because of its characters and emotional storytelling. It is not just a romance, but a story about identity, memories, sacrifice, and choosing the person you love despite everything standing in your way.

I would recommend this drama mainly to people who enjoy historical fantasy romances with a strong focus on the main couple and character development. It had some slower moments, but the emotional payoff made it worth watching.

More Than Just a Comedy

This drama was such a pleasant out-of-right-field surprise. The posters make it look like a loud, silly comedy, but it is actually a sweet and funny story about regular people who get stuck with messy superpowers. The best part is that these characters do not want to be heroes. They are embarrassed by their powers and desperately try to hide them because their abilities are so awkward to use.

The story happens in a small beach town in 1999, right when everyone is panicking about the Y2K end-of-the-world bug. A sick young woman named Chae-ni tries to fake her own kidnapping to get money to travel, but she ends up having a heart attack. Her clumsy friends panic and leave her in a junkyard, not knowing the dirt is full of toxic chemicals from a secret lab. Instead of dying, the chemicals save her life and give the friends powers. But these are broken, or maybe the better word is flawed, superpowers. They only act up based on their bad habits or flaws, which forces them into a wild battle against a creepy cult that is kidnapping locals. This premise is not necessarily new, but what’s new is how it’s executed.

The cast is what makes the show so lovable. Park Eun-bin plays Chae-ni, a wild and reckless girl who can teleport, but only when her heart rate shoots up from drinking too much caffeine or getting scared. She's so much fun to watch because she acts like a real, panicked person rather than a shiny comic book hero.

Cha Eun-woo as Un-jeong, a quiet, awkward city worker who can move things with his mind because he was experimented on as a kid, is a pleasure to watch. He acts as the serious guide for the group, and I must say does a great job showing his hidden sadness with just small looks.

The side characters are just as great, like a florist who accidentally gets stuck to walls and a giant pushover with super strength. But I think what makes them that much more special is the friendship that binds them rather than the superpower abilities. It’s the human side of relationships. Choi Dae Hoon continues to wow me with his brilliant acting. Whether he is panicking because his hand is glued to a window frame or ruthlessly clearing a room full of enemies with his bare hands, he brings a unique magnetism to the screen. He seamlessly blends high-stakes intensity with down-to-earth humor, making every single character he plays feel like someone you actually know and care about.

The director, Yoo In-sik, who also directed Extraordinary Attorney Woo, makes the show look like a cozy memory from the late 90s. Instead of using lots of bright, fake computer effects, the show uses warm colors and keeps the powers looking grounded. When someone teleports, it looks disorienting and messy, and when things get thrown, it looks heavy and dangerous. Small 90s items like soda cans and old cell phones keep everything feeling like it is happening in the real world.

In the end, the show reminds us that having special powers does not fix your life. The characters do not fight to save the world; they fight because they want to protect their neighbors and families. It has a really heartwarming message that true strength does not come from being perfect, but from loving the people around you.

Petition to abolish lesbian movies written and directed by men

“This is Japan. Nobody is watching,” Kei says, while very conveniently ignoring the fact that she can't even afford to think of herself a lesbian for fear of being shunned by Japanese society.

This film is a public service announcement that, while compulsory heterosexuality and state-sanctioned homophobia are very much alive and kicking, you can't blame all of your self-sabotaging behaviours on them. At some point you have to decide what choices need to be made so you can live with yourself and deal with the consequences of your own actions like a functioning adult. Awful, I know.

But hopefully if you watch this film early enough in life, you'll learn not to choose the toxic jealous Islamophobic girlfriend who's one mental breakdown away from commiting a murder-suicide and taking you out with her. Also, beware to not accidentally become a repressed lesbian's manic pixie dream girl, because she will ruin your life.

P.S. Trigger warning for an extremely unnecessary (and completely optional!) scene of a man beating the shit out of a woman. This is when you check the credits and realise that, ah yes, of course the director is a man.
