Gorgeous Couple, Interesting Mystery, Cute Ending

This is a short drama (less than 4 hours total) with two gorgeous characters solving an interesting murder mystery in a detective game. The ending is cute and not cliche either (I will spoil it at the end of my review). I wish it would be subbed soon, but it seems like Tencent prioritizes subbing their romance and dynasty costume dramas over non-romance and Republican-era dramas, especially if the leading actor/actress is not popular. It will be subbed eventually, so you can enjoy it.

I would've rated it 8.5 if I completely understood the dialogue details (for me, the crime and Republican-era cultural word terminologies are rather difficult to understand).

STORY:

There is no synopsis on MDL at the moment I wrote this review. So here it is:
The Female Lead Nan Yu (Snow Kong) was originally a player in a matchmaking game to match as many couples to win the game. However, one day, because of a game glitch, she found herself in the Republic of China era, and her character is a forensic examiner. Nan Yu learned that she must solve a mysterious murder case to return to her world. Not only that, she also shared one body with the Male Lead Gao Han (Li Ge Yang), a player from another detective game, to solve the case. With different personalities and strengths/weaknesses, at first, they compete with each other to control the body. But then they work together as a team. But in the end, only one of the two can return to his/her own world.

The mystery murder case, although only one, ends up being interesting and quite complicated with several victims and several suspects, it's only solved in the final episode.

CHARACTER:

First, I thought that Nan Yu was a ditzy Female Lead when she played in the matchmaking game. But she was quite calm when seeing a dead body for the first time, lol, while being guided by Gao Han to do the autopsy. Her bickering with Gao Han is cute, too. I can say Nan Yu has a high EQ while Gao Han high IQ. Smart and mature Male Lead and Female Lead.

VISUAL:

With gorgeous Republican-era costumes, Snow Kong and Li Ge Yang really look good-looking together. Their visual is the reason for me to keep watching the drama. The costumes, props, and sets look well done considering this is a short-length series with a lower budget than mainstream dramas.

OST:

The ending theme is nice and catchy titled "Starlight Is In Your Hand" (星光在你手上) by Ye Xuan Qing (叶炫清)

SOME SPOILERS AND THE ENDING (Scroll down below if you're curious)

- The alternative title "Twins Detective" doesn't mean Nan Yu and Gao Han are twin siblings, but two people share one body.
- At first, Nan Yu and Gao Han share one body, but then Gao Han breaks the game system to enter the game with his own body. Thus, they become a detective couple.
- There is a slight romance blossoming between Nan Yu and Gao Han later in the drama. Cute, but doesn't take over the mystery plot.
- There is a SML (Second Male Lead) but he is a nice one. Unlike tropey jealous SMLs common in romance dramas, who are good first and then turn bad.
- Ending (scroll below):

A cute happy ending. In the beginning, since they shared one body, only one can return to his/her own world. Gao Han hacked the game system to enter the game. He also used a lot of his game energy to save Nan Yu's life. The game designer said only Nan Yu could return to her own world. He needed a lot of time to fix the game because Gao Han hacked the system. Since Nan Yu doesn't want to separate from Gao Han, they end up staying in the current Republican-era world while the designer fixes the game, and they open a detective agency together with homophone (same sound different meaning) of their combo names Yugao (that literally means "fish cake") Detective Agency. SML gave them a congratulatory gift, an item similar to the thing that they investigated before, lol!

Intense Love Story ??

This rom-com has everything from love at first sight ( which I absolutely love) to second chances. The drama main focus is about Lin Yi Yang (Leo Wu) who runs into women’s 9 ball pool player Yin Guo (Zhao Jin Mai ) during a snowstorm and instantly falls for her ❤️❤️.
With the help of her cousin, he starts hanging out with her and gets to know her. However, he has his own past as it seems that Lin Yi Yang himself was once as a professional snooker player who ended up offending a referee during his last professional match.
Frustrated with everything that went on, he took an early retirement and since then has been drifting through life trying to find himself until he met Yin Guo. Leo Wu played the character who is a good person but has abandonment issues really well. With the help of Yin Guo whilst chasing after her to be his girlfriend, he decides to move forward and make a comeback.
The pacing of this drama was well structured, from them meeting, getting to know each other to him dealing with his past with the help of Yin Guo whilst in a long distant relationship and finally finding glory together. Was done perfectly.
Alongside the 2 main leads, was the amazing cast which includes Wang Xing Yue, Dai Si, Dong Zi Fan and Chen Jing Ke. And they all did amazing job at their roles.
This drama demonstrates that with no matter how low you fall, with good mindset and positive attitude along with positive people around you, you can get back on your feet at any age.
The fact that both of the leads learned the game as well is so impressive and made it look realistic.
Absolutely fabulous drama and is defiantly 10/10 and a rewatch from me. If Anyone is thingking about watching this drama then go for it you wont regret it.?

Tried to extend my patience to this show but eventually dropped it. They changed too many plot points from the webtoon and totally ruined the plot (especially the truck scene because wtf was that!!!). Not only that, the leads totally have no chemistry at all, and the FL actress doesn't have the spunk and fierceness that the FL has in the webtoon. The only saving grace for me of this show is the actress who played the sister of the ML, who has the similar sunny and protective personality as the one in the webtoon. Kinda wished that the budgeting of this show went to the budgeting of Perfect Marriage Revenge instead because that show has more potential if they had the same budgeting and marketing MMH has.

This show just keep getting better and better!

To be honest, I enjoyed this season more than S1. Can't wait for S3! The challenges production gave to Paik and his crew did not make the show stagnant and boring. Also instead of relying on the same menu to cook & sell every day which if it was in this case the show would be boring but Paik & his crew were creative and put so much effort to cook & sell different kind of delicious menu everyday in the span of 10 days which in doing so was a challenge itself .

I enjoyed watching each of them from the cast to the part timers. They're all so hardworking & genuine . They gave their all in making this show entertaining while introducing K-foods and at the same time the viewers could learn many things about cooking and selling process too. Paik especially, there's nothing he could not overcome. He could solve LIKE every problem. The title of this show is very well fitted indeed. I have so much respect for this guy.

So, my favourite worker in this season was the same as the last : John Park. Just how many languages he excelled at?! I loved listening him speaking Spanish here like when he speaking Italian in S1. What a talented guy.

To conclude my review,I would recommend this show to all K-food ethusiasts, fan of the cast and also food bussiness owners . If you enjoyed S1 surely you will enjoy this season too! BEWARE : watch it during eating or with full stomach only :)

Not enough romance for me

Disclaimer: this is my own opinion. Everyone's tastes are different. If asked, I wouldn't tell anyone to run away from watching it, but it was a disappointment to me. I think it was the writing that let this show down for me. It was drawn out, and often uneven. Was it a comedy? A drama? It couldn't seem to make up its mind. The story was somewhat interesting, but, in my opinion, could have been improved with some editing.

What I liked:
Kim Hye Yoon as Kim Jo Yi. I really like this actress, and her voice is great. I liked them turning the tables and making a woman in a historical show be the strong one. She was strong, outspoken and was willing to fight for what she wanted. Sometimes her wide-open, doe-eyed looks were overdone.

OK TaecYeon as Ra Yi Eon was okay here. I've never been blown away by his acting (I think I need to watch Vincenzo), and he managed to portray a wide-eye innocent well here. Some of his expressions were over the top, which worked when they were trying for comedy, but not when they were attempting seriousness. The scene with him and the bad guy (one of the MANY bad guys) on the edge of the cliff was seriously overacted.

Choi Tae Hwan and Park Do Soo. Hated him with a passion, which was the intention. This was a character that was definitely a hamburger short of a happy meal. Absolutely no conscience, he kind of lived in his own psychopathic world. His smiles at absolutely inappropriate times were chilling.

The friendships. The sidekicks, the friendships made along their journey, found family. I liked watching these relationships develop.

What I didn't like:
Way too much palace intrigue. I was surprised, because by all the clips I'd seen, this seemed like it was going to be very light. It started out that way, and then turned pretty heavy for most of the rest of the episodes. And how many scheming bad guys does one show need?

The romance felt like it was added as an afterthought at times. We got some cute scenes of them realizing that they liked each other, then episodes full of neither one of them wanting to get married, then a rushed, unsatisfactory ending.

They talked about how all he wanted to do was cook, that's what he wanted to do with his life. Suddenly, it was forgotten. We never got to see evidence of that passion until the very end, and even then, I didn't think it was portrayed correctly.

Marry Me, My Queen is a nice romantic comedy miniseries done within a historical setting. Although it is not a high value production in matters of costumes, background, and palace furnishing, the drama has a nice plot and the story develops nicely. Although not all actors gave great performances, the leading couple and their closed supporting cast did well bringing their characters to life. The female and male lead have very good chemistry and there are some really funny moments like when she is fantasizing about their relationship and some other incidents with her consort Yun Fei Ran. Overall, the drama is entertaining, enjoy it!

BEST CHINESE MODERN ROMANCE DRAMA!!!

I have watch Chinese modern romance drama, but this is the BEST. From the actors/actress, story line, acting and the beautiful places. A drama worth watching again and again.

Leo acting is superb, his love for Mai, I can feel it while watching it. The way Leo look, kiss, hug & take care of Mai, is every girls dream from a guy. LEO IS A GREEN FLAG.

After watching the first episode, I was already hook and can’t wait for the next episode. A breath of fresh air from common Chinese and Korean drama.

There is no typical 2nd lead actress that would fight for Leo’s love to Mai.

Highly recommended drama. I can watch it all over again.

Please another Leo & Mai modern drama. More kisses, joke!!!

A wonderful story with actors with absolutely gorgeous chemistry <3

I could say that the story was a bit rushed but the chemistry of the main characters made me love this drama from the very first episode. I really liked their outfits, especially ML, he looked gorgeous with that hairstyle, that jewelry and the way he was dressed. I also really liked his character. A very loyal man to the woman he loves as any woman would want..
I love everything about this short drama, and also the ending which was very cute and romantic.
As for the music, I gave it a 7.5 not because I didn't like it, but because there were 2 scenes where the music suddenly changed, and it was noticeable that there the scene was cut. But that doesn't change my good opinion of the drama.

If you're into slow burn romance then this is your kind of thing. People in the comments said the Romance tag shouldn't exist but I don't think so?? Romance isn't all about kisses and skinship. For me Xie Bin Bin did a really good job at portraying his character. You could see his love for the FL by the way he was looking at her and that was enough for me. When the confession and kiss scene came along it was all worth it.

This is obviously a medium(?) budget drama, some edited scenes were too dramatic with the camera work but i didn't really mind? I don't know when this was filmed tbh but it gives me 2017 vibes which i kind of miss. Personally im the kind of person who mostly cares about romance so some parts that didn't make sense in the plot didn't even bother me. Overall it's a good drama i got hooked from the first episode and i think you shouldn't mind the negative comments and give it a try yourself.

So much potential

Premise was great, execution was meh. I really liked the three main actors; Park Sung Wong as the pampered action star Woong Gwang was excellent, and the bromance between him and agent K (played by the very suave Park Hai Jin) was pretty funny. Kim Min Jung as Cha Do Ha was endearing as a fan turned confidante with the older action star, who came off as kind of a father figure. But Agent K was a terrible spy, with pretty much everyone on to his spy status, but tromping in and out of his spy hideout, the whole secret agent idea did not seem very secret.
The romance between Agent K and Do Ha fell flat as well. As many reviews have stated, there was very little chemistry between K and Do Ha, and the rationale for the romance was kind of flimsy. I think it would have been good to lean further into her conman upbringing and her suspicions of Agent K. He apparently used romantic entanglements with gullible women to achieve previous missions; Do Ha's street smarts and quick wit should set her apart and explain his attraction to her.
I dropped it because the plot was getting very repetitive. The spy missions were not that intriguing and I lost interest by the third mission.
Individually, I did enjoy the three main actors and hope to see them in other roles.

Drama with no story

To summarize this drama: food, kisses, cuddles, and matches against overly friendly competitors where the Main Leads obviously win.

The storyline lacks depth and progression. Even if you skip a few episodes, you won't miss anything as the plot remains stagnant throughout. The repetitive nature of each episode, with the Main Leads romancing in almost every scene, makes it feel like the drama could have been completed in just 8 episodes. I regret wasting my time watching it.

Good production trying to re-spin a tired trope of glamourising toxic relationships

I give this an 8 out of 10 which is highly generous considering the subject matter - being made into some unique love story. This is mainly for the overall production quality. But overall, a very problematic drama which in essence glamourizes toxic behaviour and puts narcissistic behaviour firmly on the map. For watchers like myself, it's not an issue, as it's just a drama, but for younger impressionable audiences, quite damaging to see and think normal and even made acceptable.

Yet again, we are treated to "band-aid" relationships, where usually the woman is lowering herself to accommodate the man under the guise of being gallant and changing him for the good. Reality is, these types of relationships usually end in disaster and this story tries to paint over that fact. Even to the very end, the ML "buys" a property (a big life decision) without even consulting her. These are classic controlling narcissistic behaviours, with very little in way of seeing him change in in the final episode. The only change is the fact, he finally accepts the FL and end up in a relationship, again...scary stuff.

The acting is good, although I feel CFY is more or less acting like his real life character and not a far stretch to play a part like this, so it suits him down to the ground. JJY is the work-horse of the drama. Even how annoying she is to still hang in such a toxic relationship, she told the story well through countless scenes of humiliation and curiosity.

There were parts that dragged on. To get to the point, some episodes really did not need to be. The so-called baddie character played by ZZW was a bit weak, especially towards the latter stages when he was going off the rails were some of the most awful gurning and over-the-top nodding going on. You know something is wrong when you're giggling instead of concentrating on the actor's emotions.

Nonetheless, it's a decent drama, but the subject is not new and re-hashes that same old "only I can change this man's behaviour" trope to make female audiences feel more personal and special. I think that's more imaginary rather than reality.

MASTERPIECE

genuinely, it conveyed to me what it is to fall in love, to truly and accidentally fall in love for the first time in adolescence, with all the pressure, exaggerated and uncontrollable emotions. it's all so well articulated and developed in the most human and beautiful way possible.

i deeply sympathize with each character, especially teh. i totally understand any criticism towards him for the behavior he had towards oh-aew, but at the same time, i truly believe that no one can blame him for the reaction he had.

when oh-aew confesses his feelings to teh and he realizes that he is in love and that everything he thought he was, is now a huge question mark, then he enters into emotional resistance, repression, and rejection of his feelings.

the great conflict is that they can't separate from each other, they can't stop thinking about each other, even when suddenly all communication is cut off and they completely ignore each other. and honestly, i love how this part is so realistic and raw.

when bas confesses his feelings to oh-aew, which, in my opinion, is one of the most painful scenes to watch, the overwhelming feeling of having lost the person you love and how lost you are without them.

throughout, we can see how teh lives to meet his mother's expectations. when he talks to hoon, teh tells him how scared he was about what his mother would think of him. oh-aew is always open about how he feels, showing that this undoubtedly comes from how he was raised.

the final scene is one of the most beautiful and touching things i have ever seen, and i love how every detail was placed. the fear of judgment is still a sensitive subject for teh, but it no longer stops him from loving who he wants to love and living how he wants to live, now both of them have the maturity and emotional stability to support each other in a relationship.

i can say that "i told sunset about you" has had a profound impact on me. i don't think i'll ever get tired of talking about any aspect of this show, and it will never be enough <3

The worst dating show ever existed?

Man the pain i went through watching this absolute do sh of a show?
Like were did you find these people?
The women (excl one girl) are either shallow beyond belief or came here for the wrong reasons and not to find love. Like all of them were gooning for the guy who's a personality of garlic paste with prolly the worst resume carreer wise? There isn't one quality about him that's interesting, kind or even hot. Doesn't even know how to treat a woman, treated almost all of em like pawns incl his friends but for some reason these 3 ladies are all over him?
One old lady knows he doesn't give 2 squats about her but keeps hovering over him like i haven't conveyed him how i feel like every episode like "Mam, you've told your feelings like 1000 times already give it a rest" and the 2 other girlies didn't even look at the 2 real and successful and stand up guys with genuine feelings.
All these things make it very suspicious about the motives behind their participation in the show.
