I don't even know how to describe this drama...

Okay, first of all, I am amazed at how they managed to make the power of the female lead (Oh Cho-Rim) look interesting and cool. Because who thought that seeing scents could help you solve a crime?

Now let's start on my real review. The story is so lame and corny; it is so 2015 (if that makes sense), like if I watched this drama around that year, maybe I'd find it good, but truthfully speaking, the plot is so awful. Half the time, I was cringing. Like, what do you mean that people think you're a monster just because your one eye is blue? It is not that deep, bruh. And the relationship between Choi Moo Gak (the male lead) and his sister is weird; they give me a "sibling or dating?" vibe. And let's be real: the character of Jung In Gi, which is Oh Jae Pyo, is really not necessary in this drama.

You might be wondering why I gave it a 6 out of 10 if I find this drama awful. Well, the plot is horrible, yes, but I did find the acting bearable. I always find some people criticizing the acting skills of Shin Sekyung, but honestly, I don't think she's a bad actress; it's just her character. And like I said, I find the female lead's power intriguing; that's why I still managed to finish this to see the end of this drama and how they will use her powers. And also, Namkoong Min did a good job being the villain, and Yoo Jin-seo slayed her character as an Ice Princess cop.

Not as good as I expected

To be honest I wanted to watch this for a long time because I heard a lot of people saying that it's one of their favorite drama of all times. The story started off great and it will spark curiosity and excitement because you'll wonder how the connections of the characters will turned out given that you'd be able to figure out right away how the main characters are entangled due to the incident right from the very beginning. It took advantage of the curiosity of the viewers to the point that it's being dragged on for a long time. I just want to finish it off because what I really wanted to know is how things will turn out in the end. Usually the process should be something enjoyable to watch but for me it's very painful and frustrating to watch, I just can't wait to end it and just get over it. The plot twist became a stupid way to prolong the story instead of giving excitement I just wished it ended earlier, it just made my agony watching it longer. I really love mystery genre and also the new idea for fiction of being able to see smell so I'm putting that as a consideration but this doesn't really justify my expectations.

The casts are pretty good except that I hate that the main lead is a bit exaggerating in every way possible. The emotions that I expected for the plot are not conveyed the way I expected it to be. I didn't even cry a bit all throughout the drama even though the story of it should be something a bit tragic. I didn't even get the point of making the female male lead a comedian and the male lead as an aquarist. It just doesn't match well with the whole story.

The songs used are not notable that I haven't even remember any songs from the drama although the sound effects inserted is very effective in setting the correct mood. Like for the comedic scenes, it somehow made me laugh.

I am not expecting to watch this again in the future. My curiosity about the turn out of events has been fed so that's enough for me. I don't even remember getting any lesson from it but at least it made my mind work by wondering what will be the ending.

This is a procedural drama with some cute romance. This pretty much sums it up, the romance is reasonably okay, but you won't be floored by the main leads' chemistry. Big positive though that there is no love triangle, or forced separations. Shin Se Kyung did well compared to some of her other works, ML? his acting wasn't very convincing.. The comedic skits for the troupe were meaningless, I did not find any of them funny.
The aspect of seeing scents is a bit interesting, but the CGI showing mini leaf etc. symbols floating around is just dumb, it should've been some random shapes & colors, because this is just unacceptable even with drama logic.
The majority of the time is spent on the procedural police stuff and honestly some of it is really boring, some of it is really stupid, the side characters at the station were not that interesting either. One notable example is that moment when our ML shows his genius in rotating a barcode, well newsflash drama writers, it doesn't matter how you rotate or mirror a barcode, the numeric value won't change. Police tends to be really really bad in kdramas in general, but this is a new kind of low.
Park Jinjoo is the best part of the series, I would love to see her in a main role one day..
The killer, well I didn't really care tbh, the actor did a good job, the sub par script wasn't his fault.
The OST was okay, nothing too memorable though.

a surprise to the heart!

you can start this drama simply by wanting a silly laugh (and, trust me, you'll laugh) but much more is revealed as the story develops. it's a story about healing and hope! I absolutely loved it.

the main couple starts very unserious and not too dramatic but it ends up as the type of couple that you can see why they're together! I did find myself giggling and kicking my feet at their cute scenes!!

it's very funny but the plot for the murderers keep your attention on all the time. the plot twists are also really well done, in my opinion.

the only thing I really dislike about this drama is it's end. they could've easily finished in episode 15, so episode 16 felt totally unnecessary and kinda boring.

That's why I rate this a 9/10, I totally recomend to watch it tho!

So i am always looking for a good mystery drama with a crime theme, and fortunately this was one of them.overall the story was good to get u started bcz of its unique plot with special smelling sense as main theme. Pretty different ,right? Actors were good but I couldn’t find chemistry between main leads convincing. ?. Agh what i reallyyy loved were the interactions between our female lead nd 2nd lead(nam gongshim/jae kwon). ?. He literally stole the show ?at least for me . His criminal vibe and dangerous aura made me fall in love with him . U could feel his love for her just the way he looked at her?I shipped them so much but u know what Its kdrama nd u will always hv second lead syndrome. ?Ah poor me ,now i only love serial killers ,psycpaths and gangsters. Am i really fine?. How many of u r just like me??

Not recommended!
The story telling goes round and round and the logic and rationale of characters is frustrating.
There’s so many times you want to shake them and tell them to get a grip.

Our heroine’s characterisation is not too bad. She isn’t the best heroine, but she’s strong as a human being and I can always support a character like that.

Moo Gak
He’s ok. He’s played in a typical Yoo Chun style. I find Yoo Chun’s romance not at all my cup of tea. But his comedy is fine. He is good at the straight face delivery.

Lieutenant Yeom was one of my favourite characters and I laughed at most of the other detectives' antics.

Bad Guy
The show just loved the bad guy so much. So much gloating. At least he was handsome. And I’m glad how they finished him off.

Just Nice

Just nice. I like the storyline. I like the acting butttt.....why do I feel like less chemistry between Park Yoo Chun and Shin Se Kyung? And for the ML, when he said he love and needs the FL, I just can't feel the love.

I know that there is some scene that is impossible and non sensible but who cares. It's just a drama. But anyway, this drama is good. If you looking for a mystery plus comedy, you can watch this.

Oh! one more thing. NamKoong Min just too hot in this drama. And in my personal opinion, he is more suitable to play the role as a psycho and a serious man than a romantic. And he is not good when he played for comedy.

The conclusion is...this drama is so so. 7.5 stars!

Unfortunately there's a basic word count for reviews so 'Show is dumb and everyone is stupid' will probably be deemed inadequate. So I will attempt to put some more words around that overall conclusion to at least meet the minimum requirements.

Shin Se-kyung (Oh Choi-rim/Choi Eun-seol) puts in an enjoyable performances in this show about a woman who can see smells. Unfortunately she's paired up with rapist, Yoo-chun and so you should probably avoid it for that alone. His character has some kind of traumatic narcolepsy.

Even in the romance scenes, this drama is paint-by-numbers. It consists of a succession of kdrama cliches, jarring tonal shifts and the obligatory serial killer. All of this could be forgiven if the plot wasn't almost entirely driven by people being excruciatingly stupid.

Even the male lead - who starts the show as the Best Detective Ever by virtue of not being a blistering idiot - gets quickly infected with Stupid once he's finally accepted by the crack team of morons in the Investigative Unit. These detectives are played almost entirely for comic relief by a number of quality Korean actors who really deserve better.

The central conceit of the show - the female lead's synesthesia - is treated more as a supernatural power than a medical condition and her emotional journey is regularly jettisoned in favour of the male lead's. This is a common problem with kdramas and this show is one of the worst examples of it.

Show gives us a generic and poorly-drawn antagonist whose genius is regularly achieved by the other characters being exceptionally dumb. We're supposed to think this antagonist is playing Chess with the police, but really it's more like a drunken game of snakes and ladders.

In the end, show is dumb and everyone is stupid. Oh and Yoo-chun is a rapist so you probably don't want to watch this anyway.

Love Crime Dramas and "magical" elements it was amazing to have the two combined

10/10 is my rating. This is a 2015 South Korean television drama with 16, ~60 minute, episodes.

As a student, Choi Eun-seol (Shin Se-kyung) is a witness to her parent's murder. The killer, who turns out to be the infamous "Barcode serial killer" attempts to kill Eun-seol who gets away but is hit by a car during her escape. The accident leaves Eun-seol in a coma with little hope of waking up or recovery. The same tie Eun-seol is admitted, Choi Moo-gak (Park Yoo-chun) goes to the hospital to see his young sister who had been in a minor traffic accident. Moo-gak is shocked and devastated to find his young sister lifeless in the hospital bed with her throat slit. Miraculously, about a half year later, Eun-seol emerges from the coma. There are three things that are different about her when she wakes up 1. One of her eyes has turned green 2. She cannot remember anything 3. She is able to visually see smells with her green eye. Moo-gak was so devastated by his sister's death that he was unable to sleep or eat and winds up fainting and being close to death for a period of 10 days, and wakes up to find he has lost his sense of pain, smell and taste. After his sister's death, Moo-gak became a police officer and aspired to be a detective. Eun-sol aspires to be a comedic actress. When the two fatefully cross paths they discover each needs something fro the other. Without senses, Moo-gak needs Eun-sol's ability to smell and use it as a tracking method and Eun-sol needs a partner for her acting skit in order to advance with the troupe she has associated with.

Spoiler ? This was an amazing drama. i liked the "magical" element to it where, when she sees smell, it is all colorful and unique. I like the crime and suspense and the way the detectives grew into a great, caring and cohesive team. The romance between the leads was perfect - I could see them together in real life. It is a shame Park Yoo-chun was incarcerated as I enjoy him so much as an actor. I loved him in Roof Top Prince as well. I hope he can get help with his drug issues and is allowed to recover his career. I think as the American fan base grows there will be more forgiveness for these types of things. The title made me hesitate - how the heck can someone SEE smells? But it was "magical" and added such an interesting level to the story that I loved it. If you want a great crime, drama, romance with a unique twist - this would be the one. It ended well too!

Weird but sweet.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this series as much as I did since the trailer and storyline did not give me high hopes but it was actually a pretty well put together crime show that keeps you guessing who the killer is.
It starts off intense, then slows a bit while building the characters backgrounds etc but it picks up a few episodes in and keeps you interested. The female leads powers aren't to mystical to make it seem fake so the plot line was believable and that made the scary parts even more intense.

The love story between the main leads did not take over the plot all to much, even though the moments you did see were extremely sweet and the chemistry between them is undeniable, so it doesn't distract to much from the crime storyline.

The only things I am a bit confused over the females need to become a comedian, (she doesn't seem very funny or I possibly don't understand the humor?) and the random job changes in the last two episodes which seem to not stay changed? Otherwise the series was super cute.

Do I love Namgoong too much?

Alright I will be straight with you, I got to the point when watching this I was just rooting for the killer to win...I don’t know if it’s mainly because I am fond of the actor taking the majority of reasoning to why but this is just how it is....
I can understand/accept the sort of halfway they made investigations at times because it can be relatively straight forward and not too contradictory...
The romance. I didn’t get it. I completely bewildered in why she could be interested in such a guy and to why a guy so obsessed with his sister being killed how he can be nonchalant about her being the reason it actually happened to the point they hit it off. Honestly he always has no faith in her eyes despite the fact she proven him time and again until someone else mentions something or she forces him to listen in some way that often relies on her being in danger or something non benefiting.
Plus that kiss they share in the apartment and she runs away....She is 23 (?) that was their second kiss even if you consider it a more serious one at that age no matter how naive you are the way she reacted was too ott (what is she? 12?) and him too boorish. Plus that forced fake dating, non date where the first one happens....Ughh
I just can’t see it working it out, it seems so utterly forced, that if you told me he faked loving her to use her for her ability , I wouldn’t really blink in surprise or anything but nonchalantly say “oh”

I loved the acting from the doctor but well he died....Then the well beloved chef obviously loved all his scenes and the built up tension he displayed, the cold collectiveness and the reserved smile...If anything he became the backbone to the whole story for me, his parts seemed the only ones that seemed in-depth and actually had detail
I don’t know if it merely the actors strength that gave it value but I would not be surprised if that’s the case...Because after all that was built up to become a lame excuse “I choose who lives and dies” ......How...Unpowerful for a character with face blindness...That reasoning just undermines all the actors work to define a character because as soon as they were said even such a great character had no value...
Honestly the writer could of made use of the journals he made his victims write swirled in with face blindness like making them write such a thing gave them an identity. I mean to someone with face blindness everyone is a stranger even the people you could refer to as close too whether it be family or friend, that killing came from the frustration or fear from such a isolating thing because to him what difference would a death make? He can’t see their presence to begin with so it could of given him a jaded idea of existence itself....Plus was victim 00 ever found? It’s just so lackluster to how it could of been
I skipped to see the ending and just gave up, I was only sticking around for the killer and he died, the romance meant nothing to me, the fact the mc she gave up on her dream to be a comedian though honestly it was random to why she wanted to be one in the first place. Plus she just became his sniffer dog and doesn’t even have a honeymoon....Work obsessed and all that with others benefiting from her ability and taking credit despite her figuring it out step by step all on her own in the majority of cases...Honestly ironically she had more heartwarming moments and tender moments with the killer rather then her love interest but she just blurts out his name during thoose scenes to express how impossible it is...
