The story revolves around a couple living in Kamakura. A place where “supernatural” is normal, like dead people walking around, or having kappa’s walk around the area, or even having the God of Misery drop from your ceiling. LOL.The story is unique itself and that is enough to get you to watch it. The story has a mixture comedy, fantasy, romance and mystery to it. It also talks a little about the concept of "destiny" and “forever” in a very subtle and relate-able manner.
I over all liked it.
8/10

Nobody does whimsy better than the Japanese! I’ve been grumbling for some time now why modern fantasy stories tilt towards the dystopian genre, making magic and the supernatural all about gloom and doom 99% of the time with 1% hope at the end of it all. If you’re kind of sick of that too, Destiny Kamakura Monogatari is definitely worth a look. This is about a husband and wife tandem who lives in Kamakura where they meet strange creatures and phenomena in their day to day life. I simply loved this world! It’s rife with stories of spirit festivals, of grim reapers, of Hogwarts Express-like trains, of body-stealing souls, and of forbidden treats.
That cast is awesome! I’ve been lured to this movie by my fondness for Takahata Mitsuki, playing the wife Akiko to writer Masakazu portrayed by Sakai Masato. They have quite an age gap so some of Mitsuki’s mannerisms here feel similar to what she did as Kahoko. Who stood out for me was the amazing Grim Reaper (Ando Sakura), she made a small role shine through. And special mention to badass Auntie Kin.
The movie ultimately portrays unconditional love even beyond death. Unfortunately (mild spoilers!) where the movie stumbled was in the climax.
Overall, that was still such a fun adventure, and I’m wistful they make more sequels as the Kamakura world is brimming with more magical tales of wonder to tell.

A Wonderful and Whimsical show
I love it, especially the night market scene. It's very magical, full of fantasy and whimsicalI love the little creatures most. It's funnier than I thought. It's also sweet with touching moments
I'm so glad I found this, it's a rare gem indeed. It's also a nice break from the typical drama
I'd recommend this for when you want a relaxed watch where you're being transported into magical land
Also, I love the concept of human and spirit living together, it's pretty creative!

I had this on my PTW and when I saw Reika's review I knew it was time for me to sit and watch it.The story is fantasy based, but only in this little town, where the spirit world and the real world seem to touch. That was enough to get me to watch it. I came in with no expectations at other than I needed something other worldly in my life. I was surprised to enjoy the film, and what I felt were slow spots were actually building to an excellent finally. When it was getting to the end I prayed for a specific out come and it happened as I had hoped (Nope you are not getting spoilers from me). I was satisfied with this movie overall.
The acting was well done and while the CGI was noticeable at times, it wasn't out of place. People never looked in the wrong direction or reacted poorly to the CGI.
Music was unremarkable for me.
Other than the movie feeling a little long at points i really enjoyed this, I hope you do too.
