Lu Ru Hua is a well-known “salesman” in Haicheng University, where she will do anything to make money, from sneaking into the boy’s dorm to deliver takeaways to queuing in the scorching sun to get other people’s military training equipment and a stock of anything that you could possibly need at a university all whilst she is studying. However the reason why she does this is to pay the crippling debts her parents left behind after their death and the exorbitant medical fees for her twin brother, Lu Si Yu, the student who achieved the highest marks in the entrance exam in that year.
Things change for her when she meets Wen Chu, a rich heir and a talented oil painter at the university. Although it was hate at first sight due to a series of misunderstandings, their relationship improves over time and soon they fall in love.
But things never go smoothly and a series of incidents tests their dreams, ambitions, love and friendship as they navigate through the 4 years of university as they learn what being a youth (young adult) is about.

This review may contain spoilers
I watched this drama as i saw the tag comedy and romance. Actually the story gets continued in season 2. This review is for season 1 and 2 altogether cos i had finished watching all 35 eps
Lets get to character description

Wen chu
I normally like stories that has a good girl tsundre boy plot but here wen chu was always getting on my nerves. He was way too annoying and immature.. he kept complaining. He was pessimistic and never appreciated the female lead regardless of what she did. I usually am the type to swoon over bad boys with cute heart but here he was way too immature for my taste.

Lu ru hai - She was cute and she was the reason i watched half of the drama. Still i hated how she always adjusted to wen chu cos he was all time rude and offensive. But she wasnt weak either, she portrayed mixture of emotions- strong and vulnerable at same time

Jin liu - she was tomboyish and was hilarious throughout the drama. First few secs when she appeared, she gave a scary vibe but she went on to become hilarious. Her relation with her friends lu pu and ru hai were good. Her love relationship with su mei was again hilarious but cute as same time. Their scenes always brought a smile to my face.

Su mei- Another cute character, a complete opposite of jin liu. He and jin liu shared little time space but made up with their hilarious and cute chemistry.

Fang luo
He was the school mate of ru hai and remained in love with her most parts of drama. He was caring and cute unlike wen chu and i was glad that atleast he didnt end up alone.

Lu pu
She is addicted to astrology and her parts are hilarious. Other than that she is always supportive to ru hai. Atlast she ends up with fang luo.

Zi su
She was a bitch in the early episodes, was sure that i wud never like her but she transformed herself. She was 1st in love with wen chu but later she falls for the cutest si yu.

Si yu
The twin brother of ru hai. He was way too cute and i felt he was the girl version of ru hai always cute and sweet. His ending totally blew me and was unnecessary.

These 8 ppl were the main cast of the drama. The story revolves arround their friendships.
There is also bai che, brother of ml who has one side love for the fl.

The 8 characters(4 guys and 4 girls) develop friendship and in fact i really loved them. The drama was interesting in early eps but became too repititive and boring. They are all arts students and connect together cos of ru hai and her twin. I really loved the drama in the beginning but if the male lead wasnt immature till the end and showed some character change, the drama wud have been better. But i felt they had a good chemistry, the drama could have concentrated more on their chemistry. The main couple had love moments just a few times cos the male lead was always unnecessarily rude which lead to them bickering. Again,if si yu was given a happy ending i wud surely recommend this to ppl to watch. But his character gave no reason for rewatch cos if u watch the drama, u will end up in tears cos of him. I dont wanna write more abt him cos that wud bring tears..

The actors were a good choice and there wasnt any real villain in this drama which is a plus. Zi su seemed like the anti heroine at the early eps but redeemed herself. The drama showcases all characters positively. A little character development and happier ending to all characters could have done wonders to the drama.

If i write more, then i may give out more spoilers (ps - if anyone wants spoilers, hit me up)

The drama is recommended for if u are looking for a friendship drama.

Living with Debt or Guilt

Being warned by earlier reviews not to waste my time on Hi Flower/Ugly Girl Hai Ru Hua I still couldn't resist watching this series adding the English subs from Subscene to the raw version I found online. I like the actors, both played in Ten Miles Of Peach Blossom, I love romcoms about student life, and I don't mind if the story gets darker as long as I can relate to the characters. Just like watching Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo. This k-drama started very light, but before I knew it, I could only watch it with a tissue box at hand. Still I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Hi Flower is a romcom/drama about growing pains at campus and living with debt, or guilt. Female lead Lu Ruhua (Zhu Xudan) suffers from heavy debts of her family and high medical bills due to the heart disease of her twin brother. Eager to earn every penny she can get she's a jack-of-all-trades, selling all kind of services at her university "except for my body". One day she encounters the male lead, wealthy heir Wen Chu (Lai Yi) who immediately clashes with her because of her materialistic attitude. Eventually his hate turns into love. Still their budding relationship is full of misunderstandings and unlucky events. Will they find happiness together, or do they have to live separately, feeling guilty for the rest of their life?

The good
I know there are a lot of complaints about the characters. The female lead is too much of a saint...the male lead is immature, self centered...the girls are either highly naive or mean...the boys are lazy, a bunch of users. Yes, agreed to all that, but isn't this picture quite realistic too? Naturally we like to see kick-ass heroines, relatable boyfriends, understanding parents and such, but my experience is this takes a long haul in real life, with obstacles and unruliness along the way, and the end not yet in sight. I found myself drawn into the story, it had a nice flow as well. Also I loved the chemistry between the actors.

The Bad
This drama contains a lot of clichés like in Boys over Flowers. There's this poor, hard working girl, troubled by the debt of her family, she's loved and admired by several men, and she likes this rich, arrogant boy, against all odds, despite of his antagonistic family. Moreover the light and funny events in the first season change into angsty, tear jerking moments in the second.

Still...if you like a student life romcom blended with melodrama this is for you. The ending isn't all that bad.
