What I liked:
•Son oh gong (the character), I really loved his character- strong, troublemaker, "I won't fear for anyone" attitude.
And Li seung gi portrayed that character really well.
•Bromance between Son Oh Gong and Ma Wang.

What I hated:
•Jin seon mi (the character):
She had seen ghosts her entire life so, She could have learned martial arts or other supernatural things to survive from them.
She had only dialogues in the entire drama. Always calling "Son oh gong" and demad him to protect her and also feeling guilt.
Dumb, Naive, innocent. Her character doesn't really suited this drama.
Either She shouldn't had to give guemggango or she should be acted tough without feeling guilty. It's for her survival so it's not selfish.
It can be better if her character was cold, arrogant and strong enough to protect herself.
•Soo many sub-plots:
They could have focused more on real villainess and the sub-plots could have just used to fill some remaining holes.
Half a drama focused only on killing ghosts, then after some episodes, Ah Sa Nyeo and Kang dae sung were introduced.
•The Ending:
Jin Seon Mi's death was totally a suicide. She either didn't kill the black dragon or did something useful. She rushed and get killed. Her death was useless.

The story is really good constructed. the two writers deserve a big applause. They are really impressive in how they have developed the story in a way that wants you to keep watch the episodes one after the other.

Watching the drama was an enjoyable journey. The various genres mixed in the drama gave a new way of thinking about various elements. It was scary right to the point, it was sweet right to the point, fantasy on the right amount. So there is no other thing to say. Everything was pleasant.

For the casting, in the beginning, I was afraid that the woman main lead was Oh Yeon Seo, but the story and her acting made me overcome my prejudice on her from other projects and programs. For Lee Seung Gi I had no suspicion on how he would be representing and delivering the character and story to the viewers. He confirmed one more time how capable he is.

I suggest to everyone that is interested in fantasy and horror dramas without forgetting romance on the way.

I'd like to start this review by saying that I read most reviews about this show, and I don't understand why people say that the last 10 episodes were not even worth being watched. Actually, I disagree with that. I haven't finished the whole drama, I'm only at the 17th episode, but I really had to write this review (and I'm not the type to do that) in order to make people realize that this drama is amazing, and actually, AFTER the first ten episodes it gets way better. To be honest, I don't watch dramas that don't have a good first episode, and I gave this drama a chance, which I don't even regret. Give it a chance, guys. the soundtrack, acting, each and every person in the cast has it's own personality and features, which can either make you cry, or laugh like an idiot. The story is great, even though I honestly don't know S**T about chinese culture and all, which probably is the reason why I didn't like the first 10 episodes.
Go on and try it !

The story seemed interesting and I really loved the acting of most of the characters, with the exception of the main female lead. Felt like the show became boring after the first half and that coupled with how uninteresting the female lead was made me lose interest in the show.

Overall, the side characters were really amusing and they brought light into a show that would have been otherwise boring.

((They say i need 500 words so here I am trying to lengthen this why does it feel like those word limits for school essays))

This is the kind of drama that gets me asking: Are kdramas getting weirder day by day?Are the writers in a constant brain fart?

To put it simply, this drama is about a few characters who try to catch some evil spirits. You throw in some bipolar romance,a very poorly depicted/acted/you name it heroine and some apparent "deepness"about some important life lessons(who fall appart when you try to think more about it) and  some veeeery poorly explained fantasy events, connections and support characters(which again,if you think too deeply ,your brain explodes because it makes no sense whatsoever) and BOOM,you have hwayugi. The Hong sisters could have taken  the best parts out of Journey to the West and made it into an awesome drama, but noooooo, let's take a very important piece of asian literature and write a drama with a plot as tiny as an ant.
The part that pisses me off the most is that it was announced as one of the biggest dramas of the year.SAY WHAT?Think again.
In conclusion, please don't watch it.Don't waste 20 hours of your life on it.

disclaimer: I have watched 10/20 episodes
No matter how lacking it is in some areas it is way better than goblin, in my opinion. And what I really love about it is that it made me laugh a lot, the writing is actually good, and the song are modern but beautiful. I’m someone who doesn’t usually like modern songs but I love the ost.

Beautiful! Has fabulous & talented cast all sights for sore eyes!

This was my first time seeing Lee Seung Gi act and I was smitten. Never have I ever seen someone rock that hairstyle in the same way. No one can do it better, while Park Sae Roy in Itaewon Class came close, he still ranks second. Normally, I do not like characters who dress like Son Oh Kong, not because of the clothes but because very few can pull it off, especially as well as he did. The character was just wow!

Cha Seung Won's Ma Wang was just as incredible to watch. He is another actor that I enjoy watching. The plot was simply perfect. Since I have just watched it for 2nd time and am more happy with it this time around, I can't find fault.

During my first watch, I was frustrated with the ending, but seeing how motivated Son Oh Gong in getting Jin Seon Mi back, I'm 100% sure he succeeded. Would I love to watch a second season with him following her to netherland and rescuing her in the process? Hell yes, but I don't mind that it wont' be coming since I have gotten my closure.

One classic

Without a doubt, A Korean Odyssey is the best fantasy K-drama I've ever watched in my entire life. The story is totally captivating as are all the characters.

I died and laughed (and cried even more), it's definitely a light drama to pass the time. The kind of K-drama that you watch and don't even realize that fifteen episodes have already passed.

I admit to watching it whenever I can, and I made everyone in my family watch it too lol

I sincerely hope that A Korean Odyssey gets much more recognition in the future, because like it or not, not many people know a drama as good as this one.

at the beginning i thought i was going to be bored cause the length of the ep. was 90 min. and 20 eps.
i thought it's going to be as Reply1988 no events and very boring but i was very wrong
i enjoy every min in it although its long

i loved the idea of we r going to be what we believe in the most

this drama has a great idea and lesson
that we shouldn't fill our soul wz envy and negative thoughts
we shouldn't focus at others life or we r not going to be satisfied at ours
cause what we believe in is going to be real and affect us so much

but i really didn't get if the octopus was girl or a boy according to the translation
it was a boy and that disgusts me alot when he tried to seduce PK
i convinced myself it was a girl and the mistake was from the translation (LOL)

and what bothered me the huge contradictings many times about the events
like
they were Gods how they can't know the events before happening
and how they can't find each other or can't find a normal human being when they decided to hide
or recreate creatures and human beings like zombie girl and sam jang
THEY WERE GODS how can this be ???

the end as usual bothered me sooooooooooooooo much
why they should kill zombie girl and sam jang it wasn't necessary at all
as if they are allergic against happy clear endings
it sort of happy open end i dislike that kind

but in general i enjoyed much really specially the love between Lee Seung Gi & Oh Yeon Seo

A Timeless Fantasy

A Korean Odyssey is an amazing show that truly earns a top rating of 10 out of 10. Lee Seung Gi delivers a standout performance as Son Oh Gong, and his acting is one of the highlights of the series. The rest of the cast is equally talented, bringing their characters to life in a way that's both convincing and captivating. This show is a perfect blend of fantasy and drama, creating an unforgettable experience for its viewers. The way it combines old myths, humor, and romantic stories is really unique and engaging.

One of the best parts of A Korean Odyssey is its beautiful music, which adds so much to the overall feel of the show. The soundtrack is so good that it stays with you long after you finish watching the series. It's the kind of show that you can watch over and over again and never get tired of. Even years after its release, the music and the story continue to remind us of the magic and charm of this incredible series. It's a timeless show that leaves a lasting impression.

A missed opportunity

Such a good premise. It could have been so much better. This was truly a missed opportunity that could have resulted in an epic show. I think part of the blame lies with the direction and the VFX. The male actors were good but the lead actress gave a very plastic performance. I was fed up of watching her and I have to admit I thought about other people who could have played the role a lot while watching her onscreen. In the end, I really wanted to know the story but watching the remaining 12 episodes seemed too onerous. So, I stopped wasting my time and read episode recaps of the show. I don't regret it. I watched snippets of the last 12 episodes(skipped through them) and the ending.

Overall, I have rated this 8/10 solely for the story and Son O Gong(the coolness factor is strong). Do watch it if the summary interests you. Every viewer is different and just because I couldn't complete the series doesn't mean others can't enjoy it. Maybe I'll watch the rest of it someday.

Just a lil rant about the main character :)

So far I'm on episode 7 and the drama is going pretty well BUT there is one character that is annoying and that is Seon Mi. Why? Because she keeps pushing and pulling him. Like honestly he's a fricking monster, his original goal was to eat her, but instead she put that bracelet on him, knowing what the consequences will be when it's put on him. And yet she's annoyed because he likes her uncontrollably? U know I don't support him eating her, but if I were in his shoes and had to be practically locked up again I would be pissed off ngl. Not only that, she literally spends so much time thinking about if he truly likes her or not, tbh partially of his feelings are all fake and she knows it. Oh and she always says something like "stop coming near me and leave" *he leaves* and she's sad... like WHAT? girl u just told him to shut up and leave. AND whenever she goes "fight" a monster, she always goes by herself, like girl what are u gonna do with a yellow kiddy umbrella and beads. Also I know like it's scary to encounter a ghost but for someone who has lived with them for her whole life, I'm surprised she's still scared of them, I mean I've seen plenty of ghosts before but I kinda got used to them. Not only that I feel like she always creates a bubble where everything that's happening is going smoothly, but when someone says a bold honest truth to her, it pops, and she would get sad and question about her whole feelings again.

ANYWAYS I'm only episode 7 and I REALLY want to drop this drama, although I really like these type of dramas and how the plot suites my preferences. I'm sorry if anyone got offended or didn't like what I said, honestly this is my opinion on how I feel about it. but yeah thanks for reading up to here. :)
