This drama is so addictive I can say. As it havent reach the final episode yet..im gonna give it 10/10. I love the chemistry between the leads and omg you gonna see the cuteness overloaded. It is just I cant wait to see xiao chun hua to fall in love genuinely towards shangguan qiuyue aka Li hong yi. You have to be patient until half of the episodes..Qiuyue so powerful and very mysterious but he trully love xiao chun hua. Protecting her from the beginning of the story..Awww.. and Xiao bai character is fine good looking young suzerain. I think he is suitable for Feng chai chai. For the music, I give 9/10 but still very nice. I hope they will play more ost in the next episode. The martial arts are considered very good 10/10 beautifully done. Salute to the young actors cause they did very well. Li hong yi is only 21st ???????? but played his role excellently. Keep it up!

Engaging romance and charismatic anti-hero

The title Love Better than Immortality sums up the heroine's sacrifice for the dream of experiencing true love. Even so, she is quite naive and has some preconceived notions that make her quest for love more difficult than necessary.

What I truly like about this drama is the gradual development of romance between Chun Hua (CH) and Qiu Yue (QY). Here the leads portrayed well in depth characterizations, ranging from lighthearted comedy to emotionally charged scenes. They subtly grew due to their experiences and I was glad to see them enjoy a happy ending.

QY has been very interesting to me as the manipulative anti-hero, who stays true to his values, yet at the end is the only one willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice for love. QY slowly opens up to CH, who shows him care and acceptance, revealing a painful past and his strong wish to grant a place in the martial world for his sect. His way is covert and scheming, marked by shadows and moonlight.

By contrast, Xiao Bai (XB) is the acknowledged hero who walks in the sunlight. He is driven by deeply held beliefs that were instilled by his father. Their sect holds the monopoly on right and wrong, while also having double standards in the stuggle for power within the martial world. I dislike XB's very rigid attitude and that he never really evolved throughout the story.

CH was fixated on XB as love interest for quite some time, and painfully grew out of her naivety. It took a series of tragic events for her to realize that, though XB loves her, he will always sacrifice anything and anyone to what he considers to be the greatest good.

What did not work for me was the often long winded plot, particularly when focused on XB and his entourage's investigations. The dubbing is often problematic as well, but the leads' chemistry far surpassed these issues in my opinion.

Toxic relationships romanticized.

This drama left such a bad taste in my mouth.

The only thing I could focus on was the very toxic relationships between the FL and her two love interests/MLs.
They were constantly gaslighting and manipulating her. She would then call them out on it (which, good for her) BUT she would then turn around and do the EXACT SAME THING TO THEM!
Can you tell I have very a negative opinion for this drama?

There were only two “interesting” things. 1) there was there was a lot of grey morals for both the “righteous” and “bad” side. And 2) that the FL lead ended up with the “bad” guy.

I would NEVER recommend this show. And I go out of my way to tell people NOT to watch.

Ps I don’t remember the music so the rating is not reflective.

Over Rated

Watched this series because of Zhao Lu Si and Li Hong Yi and see the high rating of 8+ (After I watch this I wonder how people rate this...) Hard core fans?

40 episodes is too much, 20 will be just nice. The story is very long winding, it's only about a love story with "conflict" in martial arts. Unnecessary episodes which at the end also does not make viewer want to see more.
Acting wise only main lead acting plus Liu Yi tong who portrayed Qin Liu Feng is good, the rest very unnatural.
First view episodes are ok, but then draggy until lost the essence of the story. So whoever looking at Zhao Lu Si drama, you may still watch this if you have nothing better to do and want to see her acting.

If you are here for the story... move on, if you're here for romance...

(Note: the review was written at the time of completing 26th episode. I've added the updates and have made the necessary "reevaluation" after having completed the drama.)

To begin, I really regret having watched this so soon. I've been getting heavy withdrawal and constantly checking back to youtube to see if anybody has added in the much appreciated english subtitles. (I can actually watch it without and understand 60%...and I have... but I still very much would like some english subtitles) It's clear that this has become obsessive. So my PSA to everyone is that my rating will definitely be biased! And also: don't watch until after Aug. 16 if you suffer hard from drama withdrawal.

Story: Wows, it is surprisingly keeping me interested. And not just the romance aspect, but the politics of the martial arts as well. It also touched upon many philosophy related questions in life, all the while maintaining a light-hearted tone throughout. At the same time, don't expect this to be a "deep" drama. Lol, I was just a little surprised that a rom-com drama can still have soommme flushed out details that I wasn't expecting... never-mind a WEB SERIES/DRAMA rom-com drama!

Acting/Cast: I actually started watching this drama because I found out that Zhao Lu Si was the FL. I always loved her comedic acting and her facial expressions incomparably hilarious. I had no doubt I was going to enjoy her performance. This is the first drama of Li Hong Yi's that I'm watching. So far, I am pretty shocked how immersed I am in his acting. Every single time he's on screen, his character makes my heart race. I'm excited to watch more of Prodigy Healer once more english subtitles come out (has both ZLS and LHY). As for supporting characters, I don't love them or hate them, mainly because this story (I feel) more focuses on ZLS and LHY's as well as June Wu's story. However, things can change in the coming episodes... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Music: I absolutely adore the music. It's all the more impressive when you know that the main leads sung the opening and closing OST. I also love the pop genre of music they decided to go with for the opening, ZLS sounds so cute.

PRODUCTION: Costumes were great, the sets were good. There were however moments where I noticed the "lace front" for the wigs when they shoot a close up for LHY, and tiny makeup malfunctions but it didn't take away too much from the drama imo.

Rewatch Value: So far I'd rewatch it (I've already been). I really hope they stick the landing because it's been super promising, and from the previews I can tell that episode 27-32 will be just as amazing. They have all the right ingredients and a strong foundation to hit it out of the park!!! I really hope they do~~

(UDATE as of Aug. 18, 2019: The very last episode felt very rushed in my opinion, really hope that they do season 2 because there's a lot of unanswered questions in my head with respects to the female lead's world. But this show has definitely been a good time. Wished the ending was a bit more upbeat like the overall drama was. Nevertheless the ending was still good, it could have been much worse! I am still really blown away by the drama because it was pretty enjoyable. I've got to mention again that this was a WEB DRAMA! Wasn't expecting it to be pretty, have good music, have pretty artwork/poster, that much of a decent story, stellar cast (Except for ZLS, because I did watch it for ZLS), or even that great of chemistry between the main leads. But everything was either checked or much better than I thought. Not exactly the BEST drama ever watched. But I've got to say... Lately China has been stepping it up a notch with their dramas. I'm definitely now more willing to look at other Youku dramas.)

*cough* like the Prodigy Healer that stars both of the same leads... but hopefully it'll be subbed because after the 11th episode w/o subs I'm so lost with what the story is anymore T_T"

Worst Drama of Zhao Lu Si

I'm an avid fan of Zhao LuSi... so I watched it just for her............................

Messy things:
1. Love of Chun hua to Qiu Yue.. I don't think her love for him is true, I hate how he treated Qui Yue. She's a user. She doesn't deserve to be loved. She makes decision based on what others tell her basically hearsay. She jumps from Xia bai to Qiu Yue & vice versa. She needs help, she calls Qiyue. She claimed to wanting love but she doesn't know what it means. Qiu Yue done lots of thing just to protect/save him but she did nothing to protect him from Xiao Bai.... Like, "the hell girl, tell the world that he's also a victim and he's trying to protect himself"
2. Love of Xiao bai to Chun hua... He claimed to love Chun hua but he lets her go easily, doesn't know his fiancée whereabout & wait for her return instead of looking for her. That's not love.
3. Storytelling is lazy. Script writer made the story very lengthy and unwanted boring triangular love story. I tried my best not to skip even though Im too bored.

The only thing I like is the Love of Qiu Yue to Chun Hua... They call him evil but he's the only one who knows how to love unconditionally. He helped her anytime, anywhere, listens to her, helped others because of her. His flirty character makes the series a bit livelier and romantic.

SO MUCH POTENTIAL TURN TO DISASTER

Story:
The story are quite interesting at first. I read the novel and it is soo good. So like said above, it got huge potential but became a disaster.
The romance development is too weird. It took then 27 ep before the romance between them start to be obvious or visible. Before that, all kissing scene are just nonsense. They don’t give any impact to the story or the character at all. Nor to the lead couple emotion. Oh and they broke up after few ep the get together. Like whaaaattt ? And there are so much other characters story, plot, discussion, unnecessary scene, that i find so little of ML and FL interaction or cute scene or even scene that they’re together.

And there is no character development except for male lead couple. The FL and 2nd Lead remain stupid and consistent throughout whole drama.

Most of the script and dialogue also doesn’t make sense. Not connecting to each other like they are having a one way conversation.

And compare to novel. I think the writer doesn’t do justice to ML and FL character. And ML supposed to be the devil, but in here he just a psychopath, sociopath who are manipulative and schemer, not even evil. FL are just being stupid till the end. That frustrates me a lot.

As for CAST. We all know zhao lusi is good actress. And I don’t it is fair to comment on her cause I can’t find FL character to be potrait rightly in drama . As for ML, li hong yi, i think he really do well here compare to other drama he is in. He managed to bring the character with his deep voice, calm demeanour, devil gaze and smirk and other. So yeah, i really want to see him with this kind of character in other drama again.

MUSIC is quite good, fun, catchy and relax. Make a good alarm sound tooo.

Overall. I don’t think I’ll REWATCH this. Because even first time watching it, i skip 60% of it which is means i skip all except for ML and FL scene. So if i rewatch, maybe only on few ep of my fav scene.

This was a really really nice drama. At first I was not sure whether I should watch this drama or not but then I thought to give it a shot and surprisingly it was really nice.

The main couple Qiu yue and Chun hua was really beautiful. Their chemistry was mesmerizing. Qiu yue had a great personality. I think this was the first time the hero was a villian. He was really handsome. I just couldn't get over his face. He looked really handsome and calm. That calmness in his face was really eye catching. The romantic moments between them was just hot ???.

Qiu yue is a mysterious gay. He is intelligent, cunning and calm. He has a past. He seems cold but inside he is alone. He wants to be loved. He can do anything for the one he loves. He gave up his everything for Chun hua, just to save her life.

Chun hua is a very fun loving girl who wants to find her Mr Right. She is innocent and careing.

Their costumes was nice and beautiful.
This drama is a must to watch drama. Funny , light historical , sweet romantic drama ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.

Good and evil, yin and yang

I watched this series mostly because Zhao LuSi was in it. Even from the beginning, I felt that 40 episodes is abit long, in my personal opinion. The show, overall, is a very good series. Good vs Evil, yin and yang etc. Sometimes, while watching, I find Xiao Bai (the 2nd male lead) abit 木头 or daft especially in the feelings / relationship department. However, if your upbringing tells you romance etc is bad, I am not surprised. Although it is sad that ultimately you sacrifice your love one just for the betterment of yourself.

The relation / chemistry between the 2 male lead and Zhao Lu Si is very very good. Has also alot of good teachings in the series, if you really watch and analyze the series. There is no such thing as pure goodness without any evil existing. We all have our light and dark side, it is just an individual decision on how and where you want to walk.

I would recommend the series for it's storyline (though if you are looking for something short, 40 episodes would not be your thing) and the music is very nice. The beginning theme from Zhao LuSi, very very catchy and cute song.

Their chemistry

I couldn’t get enough of the leads chemistry together in the drama. I wish they had more scenes together as couple. I really like how male lead is displayed. Both leads are amazing and the storyline made me tear up. The male actor understands the assignment and serve viewers with both meal and dessert. The song too goes well with the movie. My girl chun hua was really amazing, her personality makes me blushing than the male lead, i do hope there is an opportunity for international fans to talk to them. I have rewatched a couple of times it is still amazing to me, not to mention because of the two leads are amazing i get to experience the drama as if i was there too. I hope they will act together again in the future.

Male Main Lead Won My Heart

It was Li Hong Yi's acting as Shang Guan Qiu Yue that really made the strongest reason why this drama is so worth watching. The acting of the rest of the cast is also pretty good.

It's just that it's a pity, because this is a drama with a low budget, so it is very understandable if there are shortcomings on several sides. However, this drama is really worth watching again and again.

I don't know how many i rewatch this drama, cause i wanna see Shang Guan Qiu Yue again and again. His eyes can describe everything

I absolutely adored this drama. It is incredibly rare to find dramas where the main character is considered evil and I just find it really fascinating to watch the story unfold. There's your usual love triangle but it has a bit of an added part to it which I won't say but I loved the idea of it. The support roles are played amazingly well and there isn't a single character that I particularly disliked because of bad acting. I personally think the second male lead character is portrayed as sort of a hero but I didn't particularly like him, I thought he was actually more harsh than the 'evil' main lead.

The music for me is mixed. I absolutely love the song for the credits and the songs that play throughout the drama but I really don't like the main beginning OST. I just think if it's a Chinese historical drama then it needs music that fits with it and the OST is very upbeat and modern, basically pop. For a modern drama it would be fine but in my opinion this one just doesn't work for the type of drama.

Now as for the acting I thought that occasionally it was a bit rigid and expressionless but I don't think it was the actors, maybe it was just the way the characters were meant to feel since it was either a dramatic or sad scene. And I absolutely adore the main male lead both actor and character. If you want to find a drama where the male cast are somehow prettier than the female cast then this is the drama. I actually think all the main characters are pretty but I have never seen someone look quite so pretty and elegant in all my life like I did when I watched this and saw Li Hong Yi as Qiu Yue. Honestly it may just be me but thinking of both boys and girls, I am in awe of how beautiful he looks when playing this role. He is naturally quite a handsome and pretty man but he hit a whole new level just by adding a long, straight wig, a hair pin and a little bit of smokey sparkly eye shadow.

But anyway, to sum up I think this drama is on the whole stunning and I just can't get enough of Qui Yue so I certainly will be watching it again soon. I just find his character is so elegant, meticulous and actually quite sweet when he wants to be. I don't know how to explain it but if you watch it you'll know exactly what I mean.
