Where to begin.... I liked it, that's be best place to start. The story touches on several subjects that are too often skimmed over which makes the plot a little fresher. The cast was top notch in terms of chemistry and I got most of the feels at the rights times. I think the writers lost to fanservice in some episodes but hey ho!
The plot/script:
I feel it could have delivered so much more than it did. The flashbacks that explained what had happened to Type are pretty self explanatory but there is virtually no mention of his thought process as his relationship with Tharn develops, Type's feelings about having feelings for a man and being in a physical relationship with one... So much emotional greatness missed! I have not had the chance to read the novel, (it's been dastardly difficult to find translations :/ if anyone knows where I could find one I'd love to read it) so I don't know if the book is better about it. Techno was sadly underused, he needed more screen time <3 and we still know virtually nothing about him. Also, there is an issue I was hoping would be resolved in the finale that wasn't: Type's childhood friend. I was expecting Type to have a heart to heart with him before the end, their interaction was pretty abrupt.
Overall, in my humble opinion, this series needed a little less fan service and more dedication to the truly important issues it is based on, namely trauma, homofobia, growth, guilt, forgiveness.
The Cast:
Chemistry off the charts and also, surprisingly, obvious improvement towards the end, Gulf looked rather constipated in the beginning but later on his expressions improved substantially, I'm looking forward to see more work from him. Mew is fab, we all knew that. And Mild needs a main role, yesterday.
I am mildly annoyed by the lack of substantial female characters in the whole of this universe though...
The music:
imma skim on this one, I'm not a music connoisseur so all I'm gonna say is that it fits the mood, I'm happy.
Direction/cinematography: a bit choppy in places, seen worse, could have been better.
Overall an enjoyable watch, it's firmly in my list of will watch again, ad nauseam, even if it missed the opportunity to be great.

LGBTQ MEMBERS DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW!

ok, this is going be a long ride. Honestly i have heard so much good things about this series and it was the most popular BL, so i of course being a baby fujoshi i had to watch it. Let me just say this, IT WAS TERRIFYING. And no, i wish i was exaggerating how bad this BL is, but nah, not today. Just everything about this series is just so off. I knew the moment tharn (The main protagonist/gay character) was a creepy f*cker, when he started kissing type when he was completely wasted. WHERE'S THE F*CKING CONSTENT? How do y'all think this is okay? okay yes he didn't know that night that type was a sexual abuse victim, BUT STILL THAT'S NOT RIGHT. If type wants, he could send tharn to prison for assault. But obviously the writers made this whole situation like a JOKE. This can easily trigger sexual assault victims when they watch this series. And besides the fact type is a a huge A-HOLE, why does tharn even like him? Because he's hot? EW THARN. JUST EW. Type is a complete homophobe and he clearly HATES tharn, but tharn having ZERO braincells, obviously proceeds to touch and gets to the point to assault him again in the bathroom. I HATE BOTH THE CHARECTERS, just nothing good about them. I at least hate type a lot less than tharn. ALSO TRIGGER WARNING TO LGBTQ MEMBERS!!! Do not watch this series. Type constantly makes fun of gay people and harasses them verbally, it's so painful to watch one of the protagonist be a bad guy in a BL. He even gets to the point, to hurt his close childhood friend, when he likes men himself.

Tharn is just a f*cking manipulator, i don't know how he convinced type to like him back, but it clearly worked, UGH. Also this series has a lot of plot holes, with tharn's ex (who also got raped) idk his name, sorry. We don't really get a clear story between him and tharn and it's once again quite creepy since he's a school boy and obviously he's an underage/minor and tharn is an adult. How the f*ck did they even date? And how can i forget when type was seeing a girl and her role just disappeared into thin air, LMAO. Type gives a shitty explanation for that. Tharn just seems so forceful to type with everything he does, hence a manipulator. I don't know why this series has a lot of fans, IT DISGUSTS ME. Not a great story, plot or characters. OST is quite above average and i don't think i like anything else about this series.

Overrated, and not good

Tharntype is so bad. The first 3 eps I COULDN'T STAND IT. Tharn assaulted type like 3 times i think.
These show romantices sexual assault. Tharn forced type on him. Idk why ppl are not bothered by it.
When the shows go on its getting better, but i thought it was sort of boring. Techno was a really funny character i watched it because he's so funny af. Also the story is kinda basic. the homophobic guy gets with a gay guy. So typical.
Lhong also..
Why is he not in jail?
He let someone be gangraped.. and ppl still like him?

Don't judge a book by it's cover

I started watching BL series recently. There r indeed so many diff story & plots. Acting is gd in all series but in this it's MIND BLOWING. I really love their chemistry & acting. Even supporting characters r very gd. Techno's comedy is in diff level. I can't stop laughing whenever he appears on screen. Just watch it if u r k with steamy (not so) scenes. U can feel the love between those two.
Some r dropping this series bcoz of scenes n first few ep but u can understand it later. Tharn felt guilty for his actions even after years of their relationship. He did those things coz he's angry with type making bad comments abt his gender. He backed off after hearing type's past. Bathroom scene is bcoz he knew type also feels smethng towards him so did that which is again not right but he's the one who stand & helped type to come out of his fear which type declared in special episode. Here type is may b a bi/gay but he hate gays to a point where he won't even feel any attraction towards guys & even if he felt he'll be disgusted by that thought so he always THOUGHT he's straight. Tharn is openly gay so this is the only series where we don't have "I'M NOT GAY BUT I LIKE HIM" or "I DON'T KNOW I'M GAY TILL I MET YOU". It's all open. No side couple as it mainly focuses on Main couple. Tharn & Type both have problematic pasts & they'll come through it together. It's #1 for me.

First, as stated in a headline, if you searching for your 1st BL series, TharnType the Series (TTS) is not yours. Really, you will feel uncomfortable especially for several early episodes. I'm start in 2017 with 2 Moons The Series, then step up with Love by Chance (LBC) 2018 and in between, several Thais, Taiwanese and Chinese series. Still, when watch TTS, early episodes just harsh and make me feel so heavy. But, it will be better when you keep progress. TTS is 'spicy' but 'colourful' series, just if you used for something mild only, this is not something you should watch. Do not expect just lovey-dovey or light conflicts here.
Chemistry between characters is the strongest point of this series. When I'm enjoying watching my previous series, I didn't understand why some keep says that the chemistry between characters is lack. Not easy to define but TTS will show clearly to every viewers, what chemistry it is. Every eye contact, expression of feelings, or even kissing or something equivalent are really well executed, just like they are real.
For weakest point, I think about fast paced timeline. Without explanation from here, IG and Twitter, it's hard to understand. Sometimes, just think that the next scene just happen immediately after previous scene or just next day, but actually it happen after several days or weeks. Just feel so sudden. Really need for extra information to understand better. But, this also can be good as the storyline keep fast, so no stagnation in storytelling that can make viewers feel boring.
As conclusion, TTS is really good series if you seek something balance from every aspect.

How is this so popular!

I've only just recently entered the BL world and this was one of my first ones. I don't give a damn how hot or popular these actors are, this was so toxic and gross!

The casual way in which it romanticised and glamourised sexual assault, child rape, and incest (even if it wasn't explicitly stated we all know what was implied) was just so problematic.

And yes I do blame the actors in part, they need to take responsibility. If you have any integrity in your craft - and as human - you should be turning down roles that conflict which your values (assuming you have any and it's not just all about money and fame)

It also says a lot about the attitudes and perspectives of the intended audience which is scary to be honest and goes to show we have a long way to go to improve.

I won't say much more as many people have posted similar reviews. All I can say is don't watch this and voice your opinion for better BL shows to come out of Asia because I know they are capable of it and this New Zealander would like to see it.

Okay, first of all: Hello guys! I decided to write this review after finishing this series and reading the one below. I can't just put in words how angry I got after reading that, so I decided to write my own view towards this series. Before I really start this I must say that I didn't read the novel, but I did do some researches about the storyline as the series was going. I will try not to spoil it so much, but it will have a lot of spoilers.
The first thing that caught my attention here was how they focused all the show in the development of the relationship between Tharn and Type. We did had some side characters, but the main focus was about Tharn and Type and that made a huge difference. If you think about it their story starts in a very harsh way, as Type starts the show assuming to be a homofobic and keep messing with Tharn to make him move out. But at the same time is really clear that Tharn is very sure and proud of his own sexuality so he choses to stay because he's not doing anything wrong. And that is the beginning of the drama. From there we begin to watch how much they will grow as people as they start to share the room and to share feelings.
Okay, I must agree that sometimes the directing was not done really well... but, come one!!! We are talking about a BL drama, and if we compare them with the one that were their predecessors they did it really, really well! This is a fast paced romance that don't spend too much time on fillers, like almost all of the dramas out there.
Going back to Tharn and Type, I would like to talk more about each of those characters. Tharn is the most caring type of person, and we can see through the whole drama that he is always putting himself in the other shoes. He does have a very strong personality and really knows what he wants, but he tries to get it by showing his good side and caring if the other person is or will be getting hurt. It's clear since the beginning why Type came to his attention, as from nothing this guy started to mess with him just because he was gay, and at the same time he was pushing and cursing Tharn away, he was also showing him his vulnerable side. I do believe that the more he got to know Type, the more he fell in love with him. I can really write a lot more of Tharn, since he is the most human character that I met through my BL drama life, but I don't wanna spoil everything about him and I do wish to get some people to watch this show and find those qualities by theirselves. So I will end this by saying that he is a very forbearing person.
Now let's talk about Type. Firstly I don't agree when I read people saying that he is a aggresive person, to me he is more like an imature and a person with really heavy issues. So now we all know what he went through during his childhood, and yes this is a very important characteristic of him. Because this bad experience made him look to the world with a very narrow mind point of view, and that's not a bad point of this drama... on the contrary: for me the real beginning of this drama was when he found himself trusting Tharn and confessing all his past to him. It was the moment that Type really began to come out of the bubble he was living and was the moment that he began to get to know his ownself. BUT, PLEASE WAIT BEFORE COMMING TO ME: I am not okay with him being violent towards Tharn, I am just saying that if we look at his character we can understand why he did it those times and we can ALWAYS see how regretfull he was everytime that happened.
I must say that after Ae, from LBC, I was not expecting to see too much of character growth in one BL drama, but Type changed the world and my mind to me. I love Tharn so much, but I love Type like hell. I can totally see myself when I was at Type's age, comming out and discovering our ownselves is the most hard thing to do. All the confusion, the storm of feelings, the decisions and how those decisions will make people look at you, everything is really hard to deal with when you are "okay" so imagine doing it with a trauma like Type's. Every person has his own time to come out (and I don't mean with just sexuality, we will come out from a lot of things during our life) and Type's began to be more confident in himself when he founds out Tharn. By finding out Tharn, I mean when he began to get to know Tharn and began to rely on him. And that my friends is when we can see that he starts to deal with his trauma, I don't know if what I am about to say is wrong ... but I do have some traumas in my 29 years old life and the easist way for me to deal with them was to share them with the people I love and trust. It was not easy at all, but when I did things began to become more liveable.
Before I can continue this review I must say that I don't see myself as a mature person, but as we grow older we start to see things from a different point of view. Meaning that I can totally understand what happened between them between the first 3 episodes and I don't understand why there is this much hate about what was happening, People seems to forget how is to be 18~19 years old, we are all impulsive and imature, Most of all would do the same or even worst. Point.
I don't think I can talk about their relationship without spoiling so much, but I can say that was a really good portrayal of a LGBT relationship. We can see the difficulties that both sides go through: as Tharn was already an "out gay" and Type wasn't. I really liked how the show dealt with it and how they showed us little by little how much their love for each other was growing week by week. And the most important is how they showed us that at the moment they decided to be together, everything about them changed, We could see how supportive the family of Tharn was, and this was just so f**king amazing. I loved everything about this part of the drama. Now, do I really need to talk about their chemistry? COME ON!!!! The way they look at each other and the little touching was just everything. The kissing scenes were superb, but I just loved how they were always touching each other and the look in their eyes *_____*'. Please give us more of Mew and Gulf, their skinship seems so natural and genuine.
For us, international fans, we will have to wait a bit more to see Type's family side.. but for now I am okay with how they did on those 12 episodes.
Talking about the side characters it was impossible for me not to fall in love with the friendship between Type and Techno, I love how they are always picking fight with each other but at the same time they are very supportive. Techno is a very good friend of Type and always give him good advices. The same goes to the relationship between Tharn and P'Thorn, it's really nice to see a thai drama where brothers have a good relationship. For the others side characters, they did well where they were supposed to do.. I'm not so into Tar and Tum plotline since LBC, so although their side was necessary to this drama I was not really interested on it. But I must say that Kokliang delivered one amazing performance for the little screen time he got. Now, I don't really wanna talk about Lhong, because this kind of character should be extinct for any kind of drama. I can't deal anymore with those kind of characters that go around doing evil things just by using the justificative of being "alone" or being "in love". Point.
Overall, if you read until here, you should know how much I loved this drama. After Tharn and Type the BL's that are upcomming will have to catch up a lot, And I mean a really big LOT. And that is first because of the amazing chemistry between Mew and Gulf, you can see that they are really comfortable with each other what makes the acting really genuine. The second thing is all about the focus, TTS focused just on one couple, so we could explore almost everything about their relationship and I really think that BL dramas are terrible at doing it. Third is the comunication between them: Tharn and Type are always talking about the problems during the drama, which almost never happens in any BL dramas... it seems that couples that are together for like 3 years, as in DBK, don't ever talk about the issues they are going through. So the upcomming ones will have to deal with a lot of high expectations, since TTS has set a new standard for thai BL dramas in my opinion.
I almost forgot to rate the music: this the third time a thai drama got my attention for their amazing OST, I really mean when I say that their songs glue on our mind! And the performance of Mew and the last episode was just the best thing ever!
ANyways, congratulations for the best thai BL drama of 2019/2020!! And please give us a second season :#

Typical hate to love BL story done well

Its a journey of type being homophobic and end up fall in love with a guy.
Acting/cast: The guy who played type brought cuteness and grumpiness to this character. Many told Earth in LBC had perfect features matching type's description in the novel. But Type is LBC was more mature. Gulf did a good job portraying this role.
Mew as Tharn is marvelous. No complaints. Just perfect.
Story: There is nothing new about this story as everyone knows. My complaints are about Lhong got away easily with all those atrocities he did to Tar. There are instances where it was expected to give more nuances to Type's trauma.
So be ready for a heart-wrenching trauma confession and break up scenes. The lead couple nailed with their acting and chemistry. Be it kissing, romance, or cute little fights, we can see their screen presence is magnetic.
Warning: This series has some scenes of dubious consent.
The chemistry between these two is the biggest highlight of the show.

I absolutely recommend this show. The relationship is precious and I love seeing the growth the characters had throughout the show. The actors themselves had such chemistry that gave the characters that much more charm. You can tell how comfortable the are with eachother just by how they portray their characters on screen which made the show that much more enjoyable. I’m not gonna lie, at one point, a section of the plot did make me a little uncomfortable but afterwards the story got better and so much cuter.

So first off, people need to stop being so woke and enjoy this for what it is, a fictional story. Yes, it had dark themes and hateful speech and bigotry. But not without reason. The reason? To show that someone’s strongly entrenched views CAN change with love and understanding. Type hated gays because he felt a victim of one (that was actually a pedophile). Because he never dealt with the trauma it colored his view on a whole group of people. Tharns patience and love showed him that a bad person or two in a group of people doesn’t make them all bad. It was a good parallel for Tar, who also was a victim of rape. Tar hated himself though, instead of a group (or men). This drama showed the emotional trauma and PTSD one can have from rape. Did the story treat it perfectly, and everyone’s reactions perfectly? No. But I think that that’s the point in the way. Nobody is going to go through a trauma like that and think politically correct on how they should respond. And the same for someone who is dealing with a loved one who has gone through that trauma. A lot of it is reactionary. Tharn didn’t always deal with Type the right way. Tars brother Tum did not always deal with him the right way either. But in the end their love and acceptance of that person is what helped heal them. The drama is not without some flaws, like stereotypes, and acceptance of things that are wrong. My major concern was the fact that Lhong was never held responsible in a legal way for his actions. But I’m sure that there’s a lot of people who do things like that that never have to pay for it lawfully. But in a way Lhong was in pain and the suffering he felt from losing Tharn forever. Sometimes this happens in real life too; we never really get to see the justice that we think someone should have to experience. Overall the chemistry between Tharn and Type, the theme of being a survivor, the genuine love, and the friendship of Type and No makes this a solid BL drama for me that I will watch again!

The Best Thai BL Series!!

So where should I start?
This series is amazing! I never watch any BL series before, and a few weeks ago, all of sudden one MewGulf video appears on my YouTube recommendation. They look so handsome so I watch the video, and I ended up falling in love with both of them. That day I started to watch TharnType The Series, and finished all of the episodes in 2 days only!

The chemistry between Mew and Gulf is really amazing. Their acting is great, and I love all the sweet scenes because they look so real. I couldn’t imagine if other actors play as Tharn and Type, because Mew and Gulf really fit to the role. The love scenes also look so natural, not awkward at all. The sad scenes are able to make me crying, especially the scene when Tharn kneeling and beg Type not to break up with him. So sad! Mew is a very good actor, and he speaks with his eyes. Gulf also really good, especially this series is his first BL series. They both did very well!

The story is good, about how Type is a homophobic (with a reason), and ended up having a roommate who’s gay. I like that eventhough he hates Tharn at first, Type ended up falling in love with him. Tharn can bring comforts to Type, help him to forget his past and always showering Type with love. Type in the other hand, hurts Tharn several times (even hits him multiple times), but each episodes showing his character development, he gets better in the end. Type even showing his sweet side to Tharn (aawww). Type is probably straight, because he said that he will never able to sleep with other man (only Tharn). I like that in the end, Type is not homophobic anymore and start to showing to people that he is in a relationship with Tharn.

The music is good. Every scenes has a good background music. The opening song is really good, and the song that Tharn sing for Type in the last episode also very good.

I will definitely keep rewatching this series. I watched it multiple times now, but I never get bored at all. Me once again want to praise Mew and Gulf for their chemistry and acting. I’m not sure that this series will be as popular as now if other actors play as Tharn and Type. Me as an example, I love MewGulf more than TharnType. If MewGulf has a series, I will definitely choose it rather than TharnType. The production team and the writer are lucky to have them as Tharn and Type.

This series is very recommended!

Lot of issues with the story

This will be one of the unpopular opinion but here it goes:
The relationship started between TharnType starts with un-consented sexual advances from Tharn and no apologies from Tharn about it, Type punches and kicks Tharn (he does not apologize about that either), Type's language is hurtful and even after knowing he never changes his ways about that, P'San took advantage of Tharn when he was young and underage and he is still in touch with his family which is exactly what happens in abusive relationship, Lhong sends people to rape Tar but he wasn't punished, Tar's step-brother forced himself on Tar and the list of issues with the story goes on and on and on. They should add trigger warning for the episodes.
Somehow they show it is okay that even if your words are really hurtful, you use violence like kicking and punching to your boyfriends stomach it is okay, you make homophobic comments but do not apologize for it and that is okay and so on. It really sends out bad message.

Things I liked about show: It doesn't follow the usual cliche which is shown that in gay relationships one person needs to have feminine characteristic. Even though Type "fake"s break up and did not communicate the issue with Tharn, at least he had trust in the relationship and did not just "believe" whatever he sees. He analyses and trusts his boyfriend enough. There was some character development from Type and if special episode was combined here then it would have been better and I would have rated 1 point extra haha.. The acting is really good, when there was consented kisses: the chemistry between the leads was really good, OST was nice too.
