''Fairyland Lovers'' managed to get me hooked from the first episdode which chinese dramas almost never do. I'm not the biggest fan of supernatural/romance dramas so I wasn't expecting anything when I decided to watch it nor I remember why I did it. But, for sure, even with its flaws, I enjoyed watching the drama a lot.

The romance was my favourite thing which almost never happens. But Bai Qi and Lin Xia were so cute and adorable that I easily fell in love with them. I absolutely loved the progression of their relationship, which felt very natural. Bai Yu and Zhen Qui Hong had an amazing chemistry and if they get cast again, I would watch the production for sure! Their hugs, kisses, the funny scenes between them gave me butterflies. Overall, their characters were very well-written and intriguing. They suit each other well qne the actors did a brilliant job portraying their characters.

The second couple was also very charming. I wasn't the biggest fan of Xiao Xiao at first, but with the time I got used to her behaviour and maybe because I like the actress, I began to like her character, too. Yang Jian was indisputably the best character in the drama! His reactions were always the most interesting and unexpected, I loved his interactions with Bai Qi. He and Xiao Xiao were very loveable couple which, even though not as good as the main one, had their amazing moments.

A Li was a cutie! I kinda wish they explored his character more -- I wanted to learn more about him and I wanted to see more of his funny reactions!

The strongest part of the drama are its characters for sure, but the plot was sometimes lacking. The first half was amazing -- I loved literally every episode and I was always super excited for new episodes! The second half, on the other hand, had some good moments, but also okay-ish and boring ones. I believe it got a little bit too draggy towards the end. But overall, the atmosphere was really nice and the pace was okay most of the time. The cinematography was insanely beautiful, too!

Overall, ''Fairyland Lovers'' is a light, fluffy drama that never gets tooo dramatic and it's perfect if you want to watch something to make you happy. I'm really glad that I watched it and I recommend it to everyone!~

When I started this drama, I thought this was a Chinese version of the Korean drama Goblin. The male lead, Baiqi, is a cold and arrogant non-human stuck in the modern, which is very similar to the Korean version. The best thing about this drama is the comedy. Each character has its own version of comedy, and I truly enjoyed every part of it, especially Yang Jian and Heiqi, the evil version of Baiqi. Yangjian is developed pretty well throughout this drama, as he goes through two phases. He first learns that all spirits are not evil since when he wakes up, he literally starts hunting spirits. He discovers this by learning what Baiqi has done as a spiritual doctor. He then learns to love Xiaoxiao, which I treat as his second phase. He initially criticizes his fellow Heaven Soldier for falling in love with a human and loses his Penghai power, but in the end, he decides to lose his power and his only chance of going home to be with Xiaoxiao. Their relationship is one of the best I have seen and is just as important as Linxia and Baiqi's relationship.

The part I disliked the most was when Baiqi loses his memory, especially when this happens near the end of the drama. Memory loss is so common in dramas that it has just become an obvious route to move the story forward.

The three main characters, Yangjian, Baiqi, and Linxia all have very good character development throughout the story, and through good writing, allows me, as the viewer, to actually care about what happens in their life. The saddest part of the story is when Baiqi knows he will die if he continues to love Linxia. That part is very touching since he rather dies in love with Linxia than being separated from her.

Overall, I think this drama deserves high ratings and people should give it a chance. The music is great and the scenes/CGI are beautiful.

Weird name good drama

I have no idea where they came up with the name for this drama. There’s no fairy land nor are there any fairies. What I describe below is not a spoiler. You need to understand these things beforehand in order understand the drama. It’s about an alien race whose ship crashes on earth. They are stranded and fragments of their ship is scattered all over earth. These fragments are made of jade and have special powers. If a person has an extreme obsession the jade fragment can give life to that obsession and their spirit can continue living for hundreds of years trying to fulfill that obsession. The aliens (called heavenly soldiers) have the job of getting rid of these obsessed spirits because after a period of time they become very evil. The male lead is an obsessed spirit that is very good and has managed to contain and control his obsession. He was helped by a female heavenly soldier that died to protect him. She gave him her heavenly soldier bracelet that gives the wearer special powers. He becomes a spiritual doctor and cures obsessed spirits of their obsession before they turn evil. Heavenly soldiers (the aliens) and the obsessed spirits are natural born enemies.

The female lead intrigues the male lead because she can do things she’s not supposed be able to do. She’s an ordinary human but relics of the alien race, like its sacred peach tree, responds to her touch. He’s a very cold person but he rents an entire floor in her families large ancestral home because he wants to figure her out. Their story and their past lives were quite interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed unraveling their mystery. They also have a great romance with some nice kissing scenes. I liked that they had both romance and mystery to their story.

There are some nice second and third couples whose stories are well fleshed out. For a good two thirds of the drama they mostly help obsessed spirits and the stories were pretty deep and interesting. Of course along the way romance blooms, couples bicker, there’s lots of comedic relief and then evil plots start forming behind the scenes. The last third of the drama it starts to get angsty and sad. So many things happen so quickly. It goes from cute romcom to melodrama. But this is very typical of Chinese dramas lately so I wasn’t surprised. I would have preferred either a light fluffy romcom or a melodrama but not both combined into one.
But that being said, I still really enjoyed this drama. It has a pretty deep storyline that kept me hooked and a satisfying ending that made sense. There were no loose ends or unanswered questions. It reminded me a lot of The Goblin. Especially when the male lead who is an obsessed spirit, and the second male lead who is a heavenly soldier become good friends. Not only do these sworn enemies have a great bromance, they even cohabitate. In the beginning when they were using their powers to throw objects across the room at each other I had major Goblin vibes. It’s not as good as Goblin but it’s well worth the time invested in watching it.

As a big fan of supernatural romance dramas, I recently ran out of k-dramas to watch. Accidentally stumbling across Fairyland Lovers for its genre, I started watching without many expectations. Boy was I surprised, because it was actually PRETTY GOOD! Having watched tons of similar dramas, I can't say that Fairyland Lovers is the most original of its kind, in fact it has a lot of common plot tropes used in supernatural dramas or romance series in general, but it still manages to be engaging and entertaining throughout.

The story is told in the form of chapters, with several mini stories about spirits subtly leading to one main plotline that is connected to the leads' past. This gave me Hotel del Luna and The Master's Sun vibes, but I liked the mini stories of Fairyland Lovers more as they weren't there just to serve the main plot, they were touching and moving in their own way. We get to understand the backstories of the side characters and see their growth and reappearance at the end of the series, which isn't something we get to see a lot.

For the main plot, there were a few noticeable plot holes that were never answered, and sometimes illogical things happened for the sake of plot conveniences. There was also an issue with the FL being too weak despite knowing martial arts and having hidden powers; I know that C-dramas are still on the traditional side when it comes to gender roles, but I hoped to see more from the FL. These flaws did bother me at times, but did not take away my overall enjoyment towards the series. I loved the quirky characters, humor, and the chemistry of the leads enough to make up for it. The cohabitation parts were my fav -- it was fun watching a bunch of characters from different walks of life living tgt, fighting and bickering on a daily basis, then ultimately becoming the best pals.

On top of that, Bai Qi was an absolute charm!! It was my first time watching Bai Yu act and he definitely excelled in talents and in the looks as well. His portrayal of Hei Qi was a major standout for me -- he was supposed to be evil but actually turned out to be cute and child-like, and it was fun seeing that side of Bai Qi. Bai Yu did an amazing job differentiating the two personas! I kinda wish they could be with the FL at the same time, but maybe I'm asking for too much... HEH...

Aside from the main couple's romance which I naturally adored, the side couple Xiao Xiao and Yang Jian was surprisingly cute as well. I regreted fast forwarding their parts thinking they weren't important and ended up having to go back and watch those parts again.

In fact, this is one of the few dramas that I would probably want to rewatch again. Highly recommended for supernatural romcom fans out there!

I really wish I could’ve given this series more stars but in all honesty I could not. Let me be clear this series was not awful however it just seemed so uneventful. There were many things that took place during the series but it was just missing something. I would say it was anti-climatic but there was never really a climax in the series. While the scenarios that took place in the series were often emotional it was still missing various elements to the whole plot. Our two main leads did a decent job of portraying their characters and for the most part they were believable. There were some sweet moments however the chemistry was somewhat annnh. The issue with the chemistry could be due to the writing itself because they initially started off figuring but even though you could tell they were supposed to be closer there was never really any character growth into how they became closer. Another thing that I found a little bit distracting about the series was that our two leads just did not seem to match quite well. What I mean by that is for most of the series you see this handsome and well groomed man and then or female lead was bubbly and often dress like a teenager which just didn’t seem to fit the mood of the series. I’m generally not picky but I found it kind of distracting to Another thing that I found a little bit distracting about the series was that our two leads just did not seem to match quite well. It’s not present.

What a series did have was death in terms of some of the writing and the experiences that the characters went through. It also portrayed really well how individuals struggle with moving on and letting go of things in their past. I’ve thought that that element of the series was pretty profound and thought-provoking. I also enjoyed looking at the male lead. He was quite handsome. I was supporting cast also did an amazing job with their rules. The only thing I can say about the cast is that some of the characters girl little bit more annoying than some of the others but not too much.

Now, you might wonder if this drama is your cup of tea so let me tell you what you might like, dislike and think that could be better.

The first thing we should talk about is the characters; from the main characters to the side ones they were all very likable and the couples had very good chemistry. This is the first time seeing such, to be honest. The actors made the story very likable and if we think about even the villains did a good job. The good choice of actors made the story much more intriguing and made sure that the story wouldn't fall downhill even if this title has 35 episodes. If you watched many Chinese dramas then you know what I'm talking about. Although the amazing actors did a good job I won't say that the story is fantastic.

The story started out well with a lot of mystery and action, however, that didn't last long before it turned to be the usual romance drama. We see some action at the start and at the end of the drama but yea.. the romance outweighs the whole fantasy and action part of the story. However, as said the couples had good chemistry so it was cute to watch, especially the funny and light scenes that they put in made the 35 episodes easier to bear. Another thing that I would like to warn you - I mean not really but yea - I found it sad that the production team didn't try to tell a bit more of the history behind some of the characters like for example the story behind A Li and Bai Qi.
Hei Qi (Spirit Bai Qi) was nice, however, I would have liked to see more of a bad character because it was kind of flat. We are told that bad spirits are dangerous because of their obsessions, however, it didn't seem so. I was a bit disappointed there.

All in all, the story it's nice, there are some short backs here and there but nothing too bad. The actors are good at their job and have good chemistry. There are some parts where it's hard to follow - it might just be me though but then again it won't ruin the drama. So should you watch it? Yup. Trust me, it's not a waste of time.

ps. If you start this drama with the idea that you'll see a lot of action then you'll be a bit disappointed. If you start this for the romance then you won't regret it.

Enjoyable modern fairytale drama with plenty of laughs

Tbh this drama got on my watch list becos of Bai Yu (love him in Guardian). And I am glad to have watched this, thoroughly enjoyed Fairyland Lovers! The dynamics between the main leads are well played out, the scriptwriters did a good job writing in the conflicts and love between the main leads. In some dramas we are left clueless how X and Y went from strangers/enemies to friends/lovers, but here, the development of friendships and loves are well enacted and played out. We can feel the attractions growing between the characters! This is a strong point in the writing, however I still gave the story 7/10 becos of the writing and development of the sub plots... Initially the story focused on the spirit cases, on how they helped resolved their obsessions, but changed midway and story developed in a different direction. It gives the viewers a disoriented, messy watching experience. Such as the introduction of Shen Zui. I initially thought he would become a supporting character becos of his many scenes interacting with the main leads, and that he would be brought back in the final fight. But realize at the finale that his appearance was only as a "spirit case"? Another plot hole in writing is on Lin Xia. Her introduction was as a struggling actress in financial difficulties. But after Bai Qi moved into her house, she abandoned her acting aspirations and don't need to work anymore?! Her character is not the type to ask Bai Qi for money, so where did she get the money for living expenses? Especially when she broke up with Bai Qi, she spent months at home mopping over the breakup, doing household chores and grocery shopping... where did she get the money to pay utilities, buy groceries, etc?

The drama has an excellent cast and guest stars, acting is good. Possibly the cdrama with the most guest stars this year? It is a light-hearted fantasy drama with comedy. The OST is beautiful and the songs selection at key scenes are great choices too. Love Lin Xia's guitar strumming and accostic singing scenes. My only complain is the uneven writing and plot holes. There are so many plot holes....

Over 2,000 years old, Bai Qi has dedicated his life, and considerable wealth he's accumulated, to finding spirits who've been polluted by their obsessions. All of these spirits also have a commonality: the ownership of magical artifacts which allows them to extend their lives, becoming nearly immortal. This is possible because all artifacts are pieces of jade which have been imbued with power of an alien race that crash landed on earth centuries ago. Whether it's jade paint brush or a pair of jade earrings, it always amplifies the object of their obsession. If left uncured, these spirits turn evil and become a threat to the mortals around them. Bai Qi uses his power to cure them before that time arrives. However, his world is turned upside down by the unexpected arrival of Lin Xia, an energetic actress who gets tangled up with a spirit. What's more, she bears an uncanny appearance to Bai Qi's former lover, who sacrificed herself for him thousands of years ago. Bai Qi is drawn to her out of curiosity, and the two start solving mysteries and curing spirits together, as well as becoming roommates. As Bai Qi starts to piece together his own memory and forgotten past, he will eventually have face his own obsession, as well as the decision to embrace it or let go of Lin Xia.

It's been awhile since I've watched a modern fantasy drama (a genre which doesn't get near enough attention!), so I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. Despite the odd title, Fairlyand Lovers nailed so many aspects, that you can easily overlook it's flaws. For example, the intro to every episode is an animated prologue which helps you understand the complexity of the series and details such as how the spirits, the cosmic jade, and the alien race, known as heavenly soldiers, interact. Additionally, with Lin Xia's character, her honey-like sweetness and naiveté could cross over into the unbearable, but this is what helps distinguish her from her deceased dopplegange, as well as comes across more endearing. It also serves as a balance to Bai Qi's moody and brooding persona. I thought the story brought great surprises, some nice laughs and gasps, and not too many side characters and sub-plots. Actually, because this only clocks in at 35 episodes, shorter than your average C-Drama, the story benefits by not including unnecessary filler story arcs or under-developed characters. A great series to kick-off 2020.

This drama has everything you want to see if you go by the American plots, setting, irony, antagonists, etc.

The characters are well developed. The actors and actresses did great job!

It is actually a comic drama that is funny.

I don't remember entire story because I don't keep up writing review and just starting to use this to keep track of what I saw so far. I'm tired of having to write 500 words. 200 words should be enough for review.

What do you think? I have nothing bad to say about this drama. It is even better than Internal Love of Dream that I had to skip to the end.

This one I can watch over and over again because it is funny. The actor and actress had good chemistry to be able to make story a good drama to watch.

Should be titled “Fated FairyTALE Lovers”

This was a unique drama that I’m surprised was even allowed to air in China, considering its themes and lack of propaganda. Probably next year it will be banned, so watch it now while you have the chance! I liked the main lead and his struggle with his “evil” side. I don’t think the other side was really evil, so much as obsessed with his former love. Johnny’s acting was believable and I felt the chemistry with the female lead, though other reviews have not. I think you have to get past the first maybe 6-8 episodes before the female lead stops being as annoying and you can start believing in her character. Overall the acting was better than most cdramas, the story had a good ending, the production and effects held up well, and it kept my interest all 35 episodes.

Exciting storyline which keeps you wanting for more

Story
I truly enjoyed the story of this drama, as I do enjoy dramas of fantasy genre. The “evil spirits” have something that they cannot let go of, and most of the reasons portrayed are quite touching. Regrets of not having done something differently, resulting the loss of a loved one, or not wanting to let a loved one know about the truth, for the fear of losing him. The plot was captivating from the start to the end, though I think I would have liked it more should they have more cases and patients to help!

The love of the main couple taught me that love is love, despite the other party being of a different species (evil spirit), as long as you love with your entire heart, you’ll be happy and be able to overcome hardships together! Would like it if they showed Lin Xia being jealous when Tian Dao showed her Bai Qi’s future though. Would be cute hahaha. Can I also add that I am starting to hate plots where couples are separated for a period of time on the last episode and the ending just shows them coming back and kissing and THE END. Not cool or nice tbh, it happens to most fantasy drama and I hate it. It’s the same in My Girlfriend Is An Alien. Would prefer them ending the show after showing them having a happy life together as a couple!!! To me, the sadness felt by the party who was being left on earth wasn’t necessary.

Also!!! I loved the second couple! They were so adorable, but they kind of got together very suddenly hahaha would enjoyed it more if they were to date earlier, instead of getting together only at the end of the series. The friendship of the female lead and the second female lead was kind of abrupt, but I kind of understand it since the second female lead was in a bad place at that time and the female lead was a very kind person. But bao bao aka yang jian is so adorable and was such a good friend to Lin Xia ? He stayed by her side throughout, and helped her through sad times when they had to erase Bai Qi’s memory, definitely a friendship I would want to have! They should have showed more of the second couple, would make the show even better ?

Acting
Didn’t know any of the cast before, except Marcus Li and Ji Xiao Bing, but I have to compliment Bai Yu’s acting! I always find it amazing when an actor or actress manages to portray two different characters well and Bai Yu definitely did it! You can note the difference between the two personalities of the male lead and I think it’s mainly because it was acted out so well. I personally enjoyed Hei Qi’s character since he is someone who puts his heart on his sleeve and Bai Qi was too reserved. Nevertheless, Bai Yu really did a good job for this character! I think I’ll be looking forward to his future projects after this drama since his acting impressed me!

I mentioned that I’ve known Marcus Li and Ji Xiao Bing before this drama, where I’ve seen them in the drama “Be With You”. I think Marcus Li is a pretty good actor as he portrayed the different characters well too! Enjoyed both of his characters in both dramas! As for Ji Xiao Bing, since both drama requires him to have a cold personality (in a way), I hope that he’ll get a character of a different personality so that I can tell whether or not he’s good in acting hahaha but I do like him in Fairyland Lovers, cos he’s so so cute and just innocent in general ?

Music
I enjoy all the songs in the drama. They were all used appropriately at the different mood settings, getting me into the mood of the scenes quickly. Estelle Chen is also a pretty good singer based on the songs that she sang in this drama as I didn’t know of her previously (sorry). I’ll listen to the songs from time to time despite finishing the drama.

Overall
It was a good watch, tugging at my heart several times throughout the series. I think I’ll rewatch it some time in the future for the meanings behind the different stories showed. I highly recommend people to watch it, though it can be improved, it was a really good watch!

The story is not what it seems

A few days into planning to watch this series, I kept giving up because I thought it would be some naive nonsense - entertaining with an elementary fantasy element. But it turned out to be a real fantasy, the actor in the lead role played very well, the first time I watched him here.

I liked the story a lot, especially once it got past the initial comic stage and went to a real fantasy level.

I also watched the leading actress in Unique Lady and there, as here, she seemed a bit too comical as an image, but nevertheless, she also does well with the role.
