This drama was pretty good. I was waiting to watch it because all the episodes were not uploaded on You Tube. It was pretty disappointing to see reviews cause many of the reviewers had dropped the drama and wrote it was draggy. But for me this wasn't the case, though you need to fast forward some moments if you don't like slow scenes. I completed the whole series in 4 days and I'd say it was pretty interesting. The story was really really a good piece. Ya! as many of the viewers complaint that the concept of VR Game was totally dead in the series then probably they haven't finished it . The writer has given almost satisfactory reason of why did they show the story like normal ones instead of showing it from the perspective of the male lead Xia Shi. I won't explain more or else the ending would be spoilt for my dear reader ( who so ever is reading this review). I would say if you have started watching this then don't drop it cause last 6 episodes would make you satisfied.
the cast was perfectly fit for the show and the acting was superb!!!!!!

After Completed it: Clarification of the Pros and Cons
Though I don't write reviews anymore, I compelled to write a review to clarify things to they who are interested to watch it but confused by the polarization of positive and negative reviews or somewhat low rating. So the spoilers I put it in the end. I dropped this drama once, when I read in the reviews there are factors I don't like: reminiscence of A Love So Beautiful (which I dropped for good), smart guy dumb girl pairing, and Female Chases Male First set up. Plus high school setting is not my favorite. When I watched Episode 1 (for me usually the most critical episode to drop or continue), I was attracted to the 10 year friendship in the group, scruffy Zhao Yi Qin (which I think looks better than the clean-shaven high school style), and David Chou as the Second Male Lead. So I continue by fast forwarding the painful high school romance scenes and only watched enough to understand the basics, until a specific episode (I put in the spoiler below). I picked up again when the VR game ends, therefore I was saved from the exhausting romance others watched and dropped the drama. In the end, I found the story is touching and the drama is pretty good. I was tricked too by the plot twist, damn it, lol. I rated as 8, but for those who love youth/high school romance (which I don't), they may rate the drama 9.Actually I don't rewatch dramas, the rating is just as suggested to get the overall 8.
*** Spoilers, read on your risk ***
1. Due to past trauma ML develops PTSD and completely shut down his past, so he doesn't remember important things. The VR game ML watched is specifically designed for him to help him regain his memory, therefore deals with his past.
2. The VR game he and us watched is tricky, as it contains reality and created setting. As watchers we get understanding about the story, but also we get tricked (or you can call it as plot twists). The clarification is in the two last episodes.
*** Major spoilers ***
3. Ep 13 the killer is revealed, Ep 16 ML is off-game, back after game modification, Ep 23-24 ML finishes the game, explanations.
4. Happy ending for all. Satisfying closures not only for the OTP, but for SML and SFL.

Pretty disappointed
Not much reviews on it so I'll help give curious viewers an idea of what they're getting. The first episode caught my attention completely. The way they began the drama, the way they showed all the main characters and how they behave because of an "incident", and the way the main character, Xia Shi played by Zhao Yiqin is. A few other dramas use a similar plot but with all the romance fluff out there I don't mind another "regrets/travel to the past" plot..All in all Episode 1 is great.
But I can tell you with confidence that nothing, absolutely NOTHING happens in Episodes 2-8. No plot movements at all. Just simple, draggy, scenes about the female lead and how she has a crush on Xia Shi. When more episodes are released, just skip these episodes. You won't miss anything except short scenes about a murder mystery that doesn't connect with the main characters yet.
The problem with the drama is the inconsistency of the way the story is told. Episode 1 is mostly in Xia Shi's perspective but the rest of the episodes, as they show us the past, is in the female lead's perspective or the second male lead's perspective. This is odd when the story revolves around Xia Shi facing the past through the VR game. Shouldn't we know how he thinks of all of this? He's BARELY in the episodes yet he's the one I want to hear from the most. At first they make you believe he's controlling his own body in the "game". But he isn't because the drama uses the VR game as an excuse to show us the past. In fact in Episode 6, it looks like he's only watching everything that happens instead of playing.
The main character in Episode 1 is Xia Shi but onwards is the female lead. Gotta say she's an example of a bad female lead character. She's the generic dumb girl who has a crush on the smart kid. Nothing more, nothing less. Xia Shi also has no personality as his high school self. He's the smart, soft spoken guy. The drama tries to pull a "A Love So Beautiful" trick but it fails.
FINAL CONCLUSION: Finally, the drama caught my interest again in Episode 16. I like how Xia Shi is starting to realize things he hadn't before. But honestly I hated it when we went back to the perspective of the past. The problem with the drama is it's terrible execution on a pretty interesting story. They dragged so much and it's tiring to watch already. None of the characters are really interesting or entertaining either. Not attached to them at all so no motivation to continue. I'm dropping it, unfortunately. I'll check in for what happens in the end but I won't be watching full episodes anymore. It's a bore. Even if you do make it to the end of it, I doubt you'll bother rewatching.

I don't understand why it's so underrated!!
I started watching this drama with 0 expectation. I've watched a lot of Chinese dramas. Thought it'd be like any other high school dramas (didn't read plot summary at first). But it was beyond my expectations. I've really enjoyed a cdrama this much after a really long time. The chemistry between the main leads, the characters of the 2nd leads, their friendship everything was perfect. Watch it if you haven't already. I bet you'll love it. Zhao Yi Qin, Li Hao Fei, Zhou Da Wei, Huang Xin Yao and all other supporting actors did an amazing job. Happy watching 🤍✨Was this review helpful to you?
It's kinda confusing
I am on ep 12 and a alot of things are happeningStory is nice it would have been better if they told us he is not time traveling just playing a game to recall his memories but the think is i don's know if he will time travel in future episodes because the main girl will die as said in description so someone has to save her right....
The actors are good but the think is sang yu is always thinking about xia shi like don't you have a life to think about seeing such charaters maks me think of leads in japanese drama a dumb girl and a hot guy...
I love sang yu's personality but ...still when she is always talking about xia shi it feels like she is an obsessed fangirl...
I love the music i am always singing along
It has no rewatch value it gets boring and i have to skip some parts
Overall its not that bad but its not that great either
By the way all the characters and actors are amazing too

VR seems just like a gimmick to reuse a plot
Started and caught all 10 episodes released so far today on Qianxun. The exaggerated acting in the "real world" for the first couple of episodes is less real than in the VR world - hate this type of exaggeration. Besides that it seemed quite promising until it gets really slowwwww...... Up till now it is a mix of "My Huckleberry Friends" with "A Love so Beautiful" + some scenes leading to the so called "accident" in the synopsis. Instead of the usual memory or flashback, making use of the VR storyline viewers are brought back to 10 years ago. Thereafter it is super focused on the relationship between the main leads which is really not that interesting. The FL behaves and thinks like a small child that talks alot which gets quite irritating. The ML is the opposite - aloof scholar that doesn't talk much or speaks in a low voice (yawns). I am more interested in the second FL and ML though they were not featured much. Basically the whole show until now is the FL chasing the ML around without much interesting content - almost all of the 8 episodes x 45mins. I am not sure when the "accident" will happen, probably towards the end so I am not sure if I can stay interested until then. The OSTs in the beginning and end are nice though. Was this review helpful to you?
I want to stay around for the ML but the FL is making it really really hard.

JUST HAVE A WATCH. NEVER LOSE LOVE AND HOPE !
It's quite good .. I was on the 10th episode when I wrote this First REVIEW OF MINE AND NOW EDITING IT (18.06.2023) but I completed this drama much earlier but forgot to update it. Nvm..I hoped that..this could be a happy ending....
I know all users/viewers are not the same, each of them like different kinds of personalities and scripts, but we should appreciate each and every kind of work, as the actors put in their best efforts to make it as good as possible to us...I think it's very goood and I too like Zhao Yiqian...Don't think I m telling this as I like him...it's the truth and every one knows that. !! ^^

Really really good episode 1.
Dropped the show as early as episode 6. I wanted a little bit of romance with a bit of suspense to spice it a bit.At first, the show had a really interesting plot with good looking actors. The show did good in introducing the players of the show.
By episode 2, I started skipping from time to time. The show was tagged as Romance/Thriller/Suspense, but I don't feel the romance. What there is, is just barely an unrequited love. I was also not thrilled in any way, I was bored. Bored to the point of dropping the show. Not for me I guess.

Zhao yi qin
When I watched the trailer I was quite interested in this. After watching some episode I can tell that this series is really good. Actors are perfectly playing their role here. The storyline is very interesting. At first when I saw the trailer I thought that it is a remake of "WHEN WE WERE SLEEPING" ( starring LEE JONG SUK)(Everyone should watch this drma also)..... but that's not the case. Storyline is different and interesting. And I am also a fan of zhao yi qin. So I am watching this. I think everyone should give a chance to this drma. You will never regret. Best of luckWas this review helpful to you?
