Light Comedy for a Rainy Day

There is nothing in this drama that hasn’t been done before, but it has its charm with absurd humor, likeable characters, and almost no plot to speak of. This drama’s strength lies in good comedic timing and very expressive main leads, from whom you can’t look away.

Characters: From the minute the main leads are introduced, there’s never a dull moment with them. Su Xiaohe is cheerful and quick-witted. She doesn’t fall for the usual romance clichés and her having fun with situations that are usually full of drama is immensely satisfying. Mo Xiuran, unlike her, is not the brightest bulb, but he makes up for it with his unwavering self-confidence and a good heart buried beneath layers of narcissism. The other characters are also all very likeable. They’re not developed much, but they all left an impression on me and I’m going to miss them.

Comedy: Mo Xiuran is a cat prince who suddenly finds himself in the body of a young general. This leads to various ridiculous situations, which sometimes leaves you choking for breath from laughing too hard and at other times wanting to hide under the table from second-hand embarrassment.

Plot: Forget it exists. Just take things as they go and don’t think about anything. At first, the story seems reasonable and the drama avoids or parodies many clichés, but near the end, it drops the ball. The established rules of magic contradict themselves, the most awful romance clichés are brought into place, and some character choices are really questionable. The ending is really adorable and sweet, though, so the drama does leave a good memory in the end.

All in all, I enjoyed Be My Cat a lot. It was drama-free, humorous, and a pleasure to watch. I didn’t expect much due to all actors being newcomers, but it surprised me in a good way. I’m glad to have given it a chance.

First of all, I think any cat lover will probably love this series. It’s short and sweet. The writers did an amazing job of depicting real cat behaviors in their curiosity with fluffy and furry things. It was quite comical to be honest.

Initially I was not interested in this series because the idea of a person becoming a cat, back and forth was not intriguing. After several attempts to restart it and I finally finished it and found that I am not completely dissatisfied with it.

The positives about the series is that it is very funny in terms of cat nature and human behavior. It is really energetic and the pace is upbeat. I also feel that the cast did an amazing job betraying their characters really well. Their acting was good. The fight scenes with the email we’re pretty cool.

The negatives are that the plat seems to not really go anywhere and when it did it was over really quick and a story somewhere to go on a different story. It was just OK. The female leads character was a bit annoying but I sure that’s how she is suppose to be. Last but not least it had one of the things that I really dislike in any show that I watch and that is the push and pull relationships. Do you know the one where one person is chasing another for over half of the series and the person behave indifferent. That one! And then the second half the other person is now the chaser while the other person pretends to be uninterested. It’s not awful but I honestly prefer smooth sailing ships. This one seem to never really take flight although there was some development.

Adorable unique story with lots of laughs

When there’s lots of stress in my life I like to watch a drama that’s light sweet and happy with lots of laughs. That’s what I was looking for when I started watching “Be My Cat.” And it’s definitely a light fluffy romcom full of laughs and cuteness (for the most part.)

The male lead totally nails the whole cat thing. From batting at dangling things, to being obsessed with stroking soft furry things, to being fastidiously clean and collecting stuff with feathers, he was as catlike as a human can be. His cuteness level was a ten out of ten. When watching “My Fantastic Mrs Right” one of my biggest complaints was that when the female lead turned into a cat it was an unattractive obese stubby legged animated cat which really took away from the drama. So I was really happy when this drama used a real cat that was super cute. This drama did the human/cat theme really well. And I loved the uniqueness of the storyline.

What I liked:
The storyline was unique and interesting and there’s a cute second couple that pops up about halfway through the drama that was fun to watch. I also liked the female leads cute spunky and smart personality. She was a breath of fresh air. The comedy was really good and had me cracking up all of the time. The romance was light fluffy and cute with several kisses. It wasn’t one of those romances that has steamy kisses and lots of skinship. It was more of a wholesome sweet romance with a few soft sweet kisses and lots of staring dreamily at each other which was perfect for this type of romcom. The story isn’t very believable and it’s a bit cheesy sometimes but the cuteness and great comedy are absolutely top notch.

What I didn’t like:
The storyline itself was a true romcom that was quite simple, light, and fluffy with lots of laughs. But about three fourths of the way through the drama they suddenly hit you with some heavy angst and melodrama. I was so disappointed! Chinese dramas like to do this so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I don’t mind some occasional mild to moderate angst in a romcom. But when a cute funny romcom goes full on melodrama with noble idiocy, with an unnecessary meanly worded breakup, and a new romantic rival pops up out of nowhere, it bothers me. I liked having some friction and story depth (it was a bit too light and fluffy) I just didn’t like how heavy the angst was.

Overall this is a very cute fluffy romcom. It reminded me a lot of “Meow The Secret Boy” with its cuteness and great comedy. You will laugh your butt off at the well timed comedy, you will melt over the cuteness of the male lead, and you will sigh over the sweet romance. If you don’t mind a little angst thrown in along with some plot twists towards the end of the drama, then you’ll love it. It’s not perfect but it I enjoyed it.

It says a lot when I actually think a drama is too short!! Most times I can’t help but hit the fast forward button... but this drama went by way too quickly! I had no expectations going into it but I was pleasantly surprised by how sweet and funny it was. The FL was cute and adorable and the ML was absolutely perfect in his role as a handsome cat prince. He did such a good job that if you told me he was really cat, I might just believe you!! The leads had such natural chemistry, both romantically (even when they were just looking at each other) and as comedic partners (hilarious and ridiculously funny). I would have loved if this were a 24 episode drama just to see them together.

This drama wasn’t perfect.... there were plot holes here and there, but the leads and the supporting actors won me over and I was more than happy to ignore the loopholes. Lately, I haven’t watched many dramas I really loved, but I did love this one because it was just the sweet pick me up I needed.

Cute lovestory with a bunch of jokes

To be honest, at first, I watched this because I like animals and the cover looked so cute! I decided to put this drama on my watch list. first couple episode was very entertaining. there are lots of funny moments and funny bickering between the two main leads.

But apparently, sometimes, the two main leads make me irritated. The male main leads is just too full of himself, well it was his characteristic and as well his charms, but because of that he become an annoying tsundere that can't really tell his girlfriend about his plan.

The female leads, I kinda annoyed by her acts too. Sometimes she act like she doesn't care, but then she became mad when the male leads didn't glance at her. Well, I have love-hate relationship with the female lead. That's all.

Short, fluffy romcom

Initially I wasn't interested in it but then i got some free time and to take a break from all the other serious dramas that I'm watching, so this was lighthearted and pleasant choice and I'm so glad that i did. I got hooked right from the first episode.
This is one that animal lovers like me would surely love. I mean Mo Xiuran's cat form was too cute. The FL was sweet and the ML's acting was on point. The supporting cast did a good job too, and i especially liked the ml's brother.
Things that i didnt like in the drama are the super quick plot progression and some plotholes. I mean that's a given because there were only 16 eps with a lot of things going on, so the plot moved too fast. There were things that happened too quick for my understanding, especially towards the end of the story.
But overall if you want a short, fluffy, lightweight romance that will make your belly ache of laughing, don't mind having some plotholes and want a break from serious dramas or want to binge on something cute, this is one for you.

For all the cat lovers out there.

If you love cats and watching a cute guy shape shift into and act like an arrogant cat, then this is the show for you. It was a very silly and funny fantasy romance drama. The male and female leads are so cute and even the 2nd lead characters were great. The show honestly gave us the greatest 2nd lead syndrome. If you want a drama to keep you smiling this one is it. The story is so cute and funny even though it got ridiculous sometimes, but it keeps you entertained and interested.
I was satisfied with the ending too.
The actors performances were great, especially Kevin's. This guy had all the cat gestures and patterns to a tee. He embodied a cat and basically gave us what we all think a cat would be like in human form. Xi Wei Tian was so cute and adorable as Little Mint. She also had some of the funniest dialogues. The leads had great chemistry because they seem to be having a lot of fun. I enjoyed the music and the action, though some of the fight choreography was laughable, it was still very much enjoyable to see.
I couldn't stop laughing at how the villains were portrayed. If you've seen 101 Dalmatians and know who Cruella De Ville is, you'll get why I was laughing so much at them. The opening song was so cute and catchy that it suited this drama. Is this re watchable? Bet your bottom dollar it is.
Overall, if you love to laugh and want some cheesy, romantic fun to kill about 3 hours on a lazy afternoon, check this one out.

A refreshingly cute and funny drama with a love for cats

This was a refreshing, cute, funny and mysterious drama. The ML portray between cat and human was great acting and the writers/director did an amazing job with all the small cat jesters. I laugh so much at his cat dance(is worth a rewind) I loved the storyline about the collection of 4 orbs and how each one can take on that human form and all its memories when near a dying body blue(cat) red(carp fish) white(dog) yellow(butterfly). The story starts when little mint-FL is sent a letter from her brother with the blue orb included and heads to the capital to find him. On the way she finds a military man hurt and being chased so she hides him and while trying to perform CPR she kisses him and the orb wakes the cat up who takes over. So now we watch there adventure as they learn about each other while solving mysteries and killing and finding all the orbs. It definitely worth the watch.

Not what I expected

I expected so much from this series after seeing the trailer, what a let down!

I love cats but this series was just to childish and so immature that it made watching it really difficult, i kept expecting it to turn around and get inspired. But nothing what a disappointment.

The ML was so full of himself and arrogantly thought he was all that, and the FL was so bland and boring and as usual never listened and thought she could what she wanted, worse was the story had no depth, we looking for her brother without giving us a clue as too why.

This series just lacked everything.

Cotton Candy sweet drama that tried to deliver angst but fell flat

This drama had the ingredients for an addicting drama: 1) perfect cast specially Kevin Xiao as Xiu Ran with his cat-like face and Tian Xi Wei as Mint with her refreshing character, 2) good chemistry between the ML and FL with their banters and cute interaction, 3) beautiful cinematography and decent budget for the production, 4) unexpected plot twist, and 5) short 16 eps and good ending.

But somehow it still failed to hook me like how Eternal Love Rain and My Fantastic Mr. Right both of which are in the same animal transformation genre. ELR and MFMR have smaller budget but more episode count were able to deliver the right amount of sweetness and angst to make us want to binge watch on them. Be My Cat on the other hand might be too sweet and lacks that emotional depth and angst to actually make us feel that loss specially on the climax of the drama.

I’d also like to point out that the producers of this drama are also the producers for Well Intended Love so I think their work is meant for more episode counts or for modern times. Also the Director is the one who directed The Eternal Love 2 so we do have the gorgeous scenes. The screenwriter also wrote the script for Romance of Hua Rong, so we have great main lead characters. I think the main problem is that the whole production is limited by the 16 episode counts so the story felt way too rushed and they just don’t have the proper skills to make condensed 16 episode dramas like the ir South Korean counterparts.

I’d suggest this if you want to watch something new and refreshing but I don’t see myself rewatching this as much as I rewatched The Eternal Love and My Fantastic Mr. Right.

He could be my pet any time!

Cute, light rom-com. Easy watching for the weekend. Loved the ML. I had not heard of him before but will watch out for other shows he's done. I like him. Chemistry between him and the FL was believable - who wouldn't fall in love with that innocent face. The other characters were cute too - and everybody pretty much interacted well - no vicious plots or nasty alliances.

Nice if you want a happy ending, although there was a little nail-biter there for a minute. A couple of loopholes, but for the kind of show this is it didn't hurt the production in any way. I came away feeling satisfied and happy with the way things ended. Wish we could have seen a little more of the happy ending, but hey - I'll take what I can get!

Comedy, a prince who's a cat seeks for the other gem balls to return home.

Don't know what to say about this drama. The storyline fails because so many loop holes.I felt that they cut out too much to try to make it into 16 eps. Certain parts of the storyline seems to choppy and didn't make much sense. It wins for being cute and romantic but not enough. Not sure how much I actually like the comedy part ..... I like it when the human turns into the cat , but not a big fan of comedy mixed in with sci fi...

The story had so much more potential to have been better. Female lead has her own pet shop and she gets a blue orb gem. This blue orb gem is special in the sense that it has a cat living inside. This cat is none the other but the male lead. The male lead is a cat but stuck in Mo Xiu ran's body . Through the female lead Xiao bo he gets her blood on the blue gem and they become contracted as master and pet. When she gets hurt , he'll get hurt. The male lead turns into a cat when the blue gem touches him. The male lead is a stone cold, arrogant general. All he wants to do is get rid of the contract and go back home, in which is to get true loves kiss. Lol so he sets off a plan trying to get her to like him, but of course that doesnt work. At the same time the female lead's brother kids abducted and she has to find the four different color gems There is a white, red, and yellow gem which each having different animal inside. They have to get the animal/creature back into the gem.

Also they were together but like broke up in the next episode... then a random love rival .... which basically was an evil one who wanted the gems.... then the reveal of the real mastermind who wanted the four gems...

Honestly trying to do too much for such little episodes....

Wish there were more sweet scenes, lol thats all in episode 16.... Like they have chemistry and have passionate kisses but not enough!

I prefer My Fantastic Mrs right! if you want to watch a cat drama
