Working at a transgender bar, Mina Ah is a trans woman. When her colleague is assaulted by a male customer, she steps in to help, only to accidentally kill the assaulter. At the court, Min Ah insists that she had no choice – she had to protect her colleague - but the situation is not favorable to her. Taking advantage of her sexual identity, the prosecutor drives the case as if the murder were a result out of jealousy, and Min Ah’s own lawyer does not pay attention to her situation. Not until Min Ah is placed in a men’s jail and is seized with terror do the human rights issues for transgender people emerge. Min Ah is finally transferred to a prison for women, but still she suffers from misunderstanding. Presenting the transgender human rights issues as a court drama, this film tries to correct the myriad misunderstandings toward transgender people. Director Kim Se Yeon made this film based on a true story about a transgender woman jailed with male inmates. This is also a court drama that embraces the conventional styles rather than new techniques. Edit Translation

This is a movie about trans ppl for cis ppl
TW in this movie: transphobia/rape/sexual assault/implied suicideI don't have to explain the movie´s plot since MDL already does that, and it's a good summary.
This movie gives a good representation to systematic transphobia, but the representation of trans ppl (women because there's no trans men) isn't good. Which is weird because there's a good amount of trans characters, however we know nothing about them besides the fact that they're trans. This is why I believe the movie isn't for trans ppl, they don't show what's like to be trans, they just portray how the experience transphobia (and trans lives aren't just about being trans, they're also about being people, just like cis)
I wouldn't recommend this movie to trans people, because it only shows fear, and things they might already worry about. However, I believe it's good for cis ppl to watch, so they can see how the system affects trans ppl and why they're still fighting, and why cis ppl need to be better allies.
PD. I'm agender but my gender expression is what you'd expect from my gender assigned at birth, so I don't identify as cis nor trans
A crude depiction of what being different is in our society
A society that still has to evolve, that must learn to respect who is different and doomed to be outside the social canons. The story of a Transgender who tries to affirm his own identity in a society that does not even consider her human. The reality of those who live every day the nightmare of not belonging to "normality" as if "normality" could really exist. This film shows us how transphobia and the stigma (social disapproval) of being a transgender can cause non only physical and sexual violence but also various forms of economic, professional, educational, even medical and institutional forms of discrimination. This film depicts many aspects of these constant discriminations by describing the daily of the life of a transgender woman who tries to assert her identity in a world that does everything to deny her existence.Recent Discussions
