i agree with the person above me... i do become critical sometimes but that only applies in crime or suspense dramas... the rest as long as enjoy it i'm good.
I'm not sure I understand myself how I rate dramas. ;) I guess it's mostly based on how much I enjoyed a drama, but there's no easy way to define what makes a drama worthy of a ten in my opinion. Sometimes I give a drama a high rating even if there were parts of for example the plot that I didn't love, simply because the drama gave a strong emotional reaction one way or another. That's why I feel sometimes that my rating system is unbalanced... sometimes I'm critical of a drama that actually has lots of good qualitites, while I'm willing to overlook flaws in others simply because of all the feelings I had while watching the drama. (Sometimes I also suspect that I would rate a drama differently if I rewatched it.)

The difference between a 10 and a 9, for me, can be about the level of intensity in my emotional reaction, and/or sometimes other things (plot, actors, etc). 8 means that I loved the drama but it wasn't amazing. 7 is still a good rating for me; I enjoyed the drama but it had flaws/things that annoyed me. A drama that I've rated 6, I consider it okay but wouldn't rewatch it and I might have put it on hold at some point.

If I feel that a drama/movie that I watch isn't as good as a 6, I drop it. I don't spend time on dramas that I don't enjoy, there are so many good dramas out there that I haven't watched yet. If I drop a drama, I don't rate it because I feel that it wouldn't be fair since I haven't completed it. I'm not interested in watching it, I don't really care if it's "bad", "very bad" or "horrible", especially if I dropped it after only one or two episodes. If I dropped it, it means that I was bored or that there was something about it that I strongly disliked.
Chimai wrote: This all means that the vast majority of my ratings are 7s and 8s. I've kind of forced myself to give dramas that I honestly don't think are on the same level the same score. There is very little room for me to judge accurately. For example, at the rate Ando Lloyd is going I'm inclined to give it an 8 even though I think it's vastly superior to Majisuka Gakuen, which I also gave an 8. But I also don't think Majisuka Gakuen should get a 7. It's very frustrating.

Same. I have three styles of 7/8 ratings. 1) Standard, no hesitation 7/8, for something like Na mo Naki Doku, simply because it deserves that rating. 2) Biased 7/8, for the likes of Hidarime Tantei EYE, which is kitschy and stupid but I liked it anyway. 3) Generous 7/8, for dramas I didn't really enjoy but I think deserve better than a 6. Most of them are crime/mystery dramas or romance dramas that weren't my thing.
It depends on whether I watch it as it airs or if I watch it all in 1 go. If I watch it as it airs, it pretty much depends on how excited I am about the next episode. When I feel like it's almost painful to wait a whole week for 2 more episodes, it's usually a 10. If I watch a completed drama, then it really depends on my mood, and something I noticed is that the OST is also very important. I find myself giving higher ratings to dramas with more emotional OSTs, I think they really make a huge difference.
I rate dramas by score of 1-10 based on how good or bad they are.
I am definetely very harsh and critical. If I see a better drama than the others Ive watched and their scores is higher than 8 I change it to 7 or 6 :D
depends on how excited and can't-wait-to-know-what-happen-in-the-next-episode factor.
I'm pretty ruthless when it comes to ratings. On the other hand, I have a hard time trusting other people's recommendations when I see that in their drama list they gave a 10 rating to everything they've watched. My rating system works like this: 10 - I loved this drama, it had no major flaws and objectively it was well made. 8-9 - I loved this drama but it had one or more major flaws. Maybe they wasted 1 or 2 episodes on a stupid storyline. 6-7 - It was enjoyable but very mediocre. Nothing outstanding about it 4-5 - I didn't enjoy it and I had low expectations for it. Probably something in it really annoyed me. 2-3 - I probably had expectations for it and it SUCKED. It's the taste of bitter disappointment. 1 - What the hell did I just watch? Give me back those hours of my life! Who paid to make this?!
For me it's pretty easy to rate a Drama...

1st - Story. Is it original, common, boring, ridiculous
2nd - Acting. Do the actors fit, how is the acting in general

These are actually my two factors for rating. I've never really gave a Drama more points because of an actor, that I especially like - I'm being honest here.
For example: Personally I don't like Toda Erika, but I love Liar Game, because she fit the character and her acting was in my eyes pretty good. On the other hand, I really like Yonekura Ryoko, but I gave (for example) Doctor X a 6, because it was common and had not many twists.
I only give a 10, when the Drama blew me away, if all the cast did a splendid acting and if the story was new, fresh and unique.
I hardly give less than 3 points, but of course there are cases like that... when the Drama is REALLY ridiculous, the acting horrible or what's mostly the case: a really bad original-story-destroying-Live Action.
I am a bit harsh with my ratings because I try to be objective as much as possible. I usually focus on the screenwriting and how well written the drama is, the acting, characters and the originality. Perfect score isn't something I give away easily (only 3 dramas and two films got that from me) and 7/10 is considered a somewhat high rating from me.

Same with me. A 6/10 or 7/10 is something I give a lot... everything above is for me more special.
