There are many great Asian dramas out there but many fall short of being perfect. I was just wondering what are the dramas that you have rated a 10. Please list each one and tell why it deserves to be rated 10.

Heres mine:

-Secret Garden (Perfect Cast, Interesting/ different storyline, excellent music, incorporated pretty much all the genres, perfect ending)
-City Hall (Perfect cast, excellent chemistry among leads, catchy theme song, hilarious & dramatic at times, perfect ending)
-Hana Yori Dongo Season 2 (so many events happened/never boring, perfect ending)
-Thorn Birds (fast paced/Interesting story, perfectly casted, addicting, great ending for everyone)

I try to give 10 when I recognize quality, independent on my taste or how much I enjoyed a drama. Of course, it's an ambitious plan and I fail most of the times, meaning that I end up giving 10 to those I truly liked AND have got quality to offer.

1. SECRET GARDEN. The plot sucked me in from minute 1, it made me laugh like crazy and cry - something I very rarely do. It made me fall in love. It has outstanding acting, beautiful music and wonderful photography, and all the side characters are enjoyable and well chosen, bar none. But it's when I decided to translate the subtitles for a friend that I truly understood why it's my favourite: the script is brilliant. It has so much subtle irony, sarcasm, word puns, insightful thoughts, literary references that translating it was a joy and a very hard work at the same time. Re-reading it made me realize how many things I had missed the first time, in my haste to know what would happen.

2. COFFEE PRINCE. I rewatched this drama recently and liked it just as much as the first time. The acting is so natural I thought it took place in the house next to mine, instead of in the fictional world. This is the drama which made me appreciate Korean shows, because it displays a society so very similar to mine, with normal people facing normal problems. The chemistry between ALL characters is awesome and the way issues like homosexuality, unfaithfulness and true friendship are treated is delicate and hilarious in turn.

3. LIAR GAME. I loved it for reasons which are the exact reverse as Coffee Prince: because it's theatrical. It's over the line, surreal, tremendously clever and addicting. The acting is great too, as over the top as a piece one would watch on stage. Music and general atmosphere are disquieting, and I watched the whole show - 2 seasons and 1 movie - as if I were watching a perfectly staged metaphor of life, with greed, ingenuity, irony, bluff, cinicism and honesty.
Finally, this is a drama which creates questions, instead of answering them. It leaves a wide space open to judgment, which I loved.

P.S. There are dramas out there which I think deserve a 10, but I didn't enjoy enough to bring myself to give them such a high score. One of them is My Name is Kim Sam Soon, objectively a great drama but I never fell in love with these two, such an unconvincing pairing. I confess I didn't find it that hilarious either - embarrassing would suit my feeling better.
Another which is a full 10 in my rational mind is Friend our Legend, but my heart can only take that much. Too heartwrenching, I had to drop it at some point. May take it up again though, because it's absolutely brilliant.

Other dramas I would have liked to give a 10 because I adored them, but don't deserve it, in my opinion, on a cinematographic level. It's the case of the Japanese Long Love Letters, so much I enjoyed it despite its evident failings.
My list has seven that I ranked a 10, here is how I ranked them:
1.) Re-Watch Value
2.) My personal emotions while watching said drama.
3.) Storyline
4.) Acting
5.) Music
My ranked 10 were:
Dare Yori mo Mama wo Aisu
Iljimae
Last Friends
Sign
Secret Garden
Time Between Dog and Wolf
The Kingdom of the Winds

Some honorable mentions, that didn't make it to 10:
Bad Guy, Bloody Monday, Hong Gil Dong, Sunao ni Narenakute, You're Beautiful
I fear for people who have BoF and You're Beautiful in their list of shows they gave a 10.

Haha I wouldve given YB a 10 if the ending didnt suck=p
These are purely based on my love of them: This includes acting, directing, writing, rich or at least well told plot, falling in love with the lead actor or actress and warming the cockles of my heart.

1) My Name is Kim Sam Soon
2) Coffee Prince
3) Greatest Love
4) 49 Days
5) Chuno
6) City Hall
7) Biscuit Teacher & Star Candy
8) Sorry I Love You
9) Secret Garden
10) Hong Gil Dong (Which I think I rated 9 in my review but ...oh well 10 10 10 10 10)
11) Story Of A Man
12) Possibly City Hunter....It is well on it's way.

You fear for them, I fear them.
;);)
I tend to give 10 a bit too much...

maybe i should re-rate my dramalist someday...

What can I say. :B
I rate dramas solely on how much I enjoy them, and I've considered changing my rating scale to how much I enjoy a drama plus its quality but I enjoy a lot of dramas that are consistently flawed and hate a bunch of dramas that aren't (usually because of the characters). So it's somewhat hard for me to find a certain way of rating them, but after reading through everyone's posts I think I'll rate dramas solely on their quality from now on, taking into consideration the drama's WAD (Writing, Acting, Directing) and post the ones I enjoyed the most on my profile favorites. So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-rate my whole drama list now (:
For some reason, I can't bring myself to rate a drama 10, no matter how much I love it. It's kind of like the French grading system, which is based on a 20-point grading scale: 18 is for students; 19 is for gifted academics; 20 is for God. My 10 ratings are likewise distributed according to the level of divine presence within a drama. Or I'm just overly critical, as I've been told by just about everyone who can stand to be in my presence for more than five minutes. So, I'll list the three dramas I've rated with a 9. I love these dramas for their well written stories that are daring, challenging, and intelligent, engaging characters that I cared to learn more about, and ability to inflame my addiction:
1) My Name is Kim Sam Soon
2) 49 Days
3) Secret Investigative Record/Joseon X-Files

And then there are three dramas that straddle the 8/9 divide:
1) Harvest Villa: I have this in my Plan to Watch section, and really it should be Plan to Rewatch. I enjoyed it the first time around and have been meaning to rewatch it just to cement its final rating.
2) Sungkyunkwan Scandal: I was prepared to hate this drama; having initial drama reports referring to the main characters as the Joseon F4 was a HUGE turn-off. Luckily, I didn't let my hatred for BBF get in the way because I fell in love with how earnest and idealistic the story is. Not to mention that it's beautiful to look at (I mean, the scenery, not Yoo Ah In). However, the cop out resolution between the king and Yoon Hee makes this one more an 8 than a 9 for me.
3) City Hunter: It's like 1980s era noir Batman comic books brought to life. How can you not love it? But right now it's giving me Tim Burton's Batman (atmospheric, visually interesting, with a nice touch of camp), and I kind of want more Chris Nolan's Batman (brutally real, gritty, and ocean levels of depth within each character). I feel the show starting to make a Nolan-eque transition in this second half, and I'm cheering it on, all the way to a 9.
