@ daydreaming thank you for more spices suggestions. i have a lot of free time on my hands so shall look up what they are useful in. i have used ginger with mango or butternut squash; cumin usually with sweet potato and curry powder if i just want some flavor period when food fixed seems bland
my basil experience is only with purchased pasta sauce/pesto
