So, I've always watched Japanese dramas because I came from Anime, but I heard Korean dramas are really good. The problem is I don't know where to start!

I like a bunch of genres but I'd prefer if you listed anything to do with crime, detective, romance, psychological, emotional, life lessons. i like stories that are powerful, and sometimes, i like comedy, but i like the above genres very much!

It doesn't have to be these genres; it can just be a drama you really like! I just want to get into these dramas!

Secret Ji Sung Drama  ( this one is a beauty

Defendant Ji Sung Drama

A Love to Kill  (Bi Rain)

Bolded are must-watch dramas (in my opinion!)

Healer - romance, action, crime, mystery, comedy

Rooftop Prince - romance, comedy, mystery, drama, time-travel, historical (male lead travels from past to modern day, so there's more of the drama set in modern day than in the past)

Suspicious Partner - romance, comedy, law, crime, mystery

Empress Ki - historical, romance, melodrama, political, very emotional

10. It's Okay That's Love ( Psychological, Comedy, Romance, Emotional)

These you should start out with. All these have finished airing. If you are interested in a drama which is still airing, check out 'While You Were Sleeping'. It ticks all the boxes on your list of genres,

P.S.: Goblin, SFD and IOTL are my personal favorites. The only reason they are at the end of the list is that I didn't know whether you would be interested in them. But all three of them are amazing dramas, capable of making you cry, with stories and characters strong enough to haunt you for days after you've finished watching them.

Happy Binging. :)

I guess it depends on what you like.  I think Strong Woman Do Bong Soon or The Master's Sun might be good places to start because they're silly and remind me of Japanese dramas in some ways.

Punch

Heartless City

You're all Surrounded

So Ji Sub - Ghost, Master's Sun, Oh My Venus, I'm Sorry I Love You

For suspense I'd suggest:

  • Signal
  • Voice
  • Tunnel
  • Lookout

For romance:

  • Kill me Heal me
  • Healer
  • The greatest love
  • The master's sun
  • Live up to your name
  • Oh my ghostess
  • Fight for my way
  • Weightlifting fairy

What are your favorite doramas? I started watching Kdrama after watching anime/dorama and reading manga.

There are a lot of dorama that have Kdrama versions to Like Liars Game (same name), Hana Kimi (to the beautiful you), Itazura na Kiss(playful kiss), hana yori dango (boys over flowers), ikemen desu ni (you're beautiful).  Just a few off the top of my head.

There are so many great kdramas across genres that I could go on for days :) but if you have some absolute favorite Japanese movies/series you like we might know similar ones to recommend?
