Birth Name not visible

This discussion has been closed.

Still not visible.

Is this even a bug or Birth Name is not supposed to be visible at all?

I'm not positive, but I think the Birth Name option was supposed to be removed due to there being the Native Name and AKA sections that can include that info.

Hmm that's weird. Some actors have stage names that differ from their birth names. Native Name is in Japanese/Korean so it's a separate category etc.

Yeah

Thats why I'm  not positive if this is the case, but I remember there was some discussion about condensing down the name categories a year or so ago.

Bringing this up again :D His birth name is supposed to be Cai Xu Kun but it doesn't appear.

i don't think there is an option, i was submitting this one in January:
https://mydramalist.com/people/16965-vivian-chen

and from the start i asked for a birth name "Chen Weihan" but it wasn't approved that way...
the actress is known as Weihan Chen, not by her "english" name, so I used Weihan as her "stage name" but it was change by the staff to Vivian (i inserted "vivian" in "also known as" line)
and there was no separate line for a "birth name" in the form to fill in

so now it's "vivian" in both lines and a given name is "nowhere", this way it's misleading...

There is that option. Probably when you submitted, it wasn't there due to a bug or sth. And you probably didn't follow the guidelines when you submitted her profile so the staff added it correctly.

She is known as Vivian Chen aka Vivian. I submitted her Birth Name now: Weihan Chen.

i'm sorry, my memory plays tricks on me, i did enter her birth name according to guidelines, but i also entered weihan in the first/main field and wrote an explanation beneath

the birth name, even if filled in, it won't show...

so actually having a form like that with one field that is later not displayed is misleading
it should be visible exactly like for: https://mydramalist.com/people/973-chen-ivy

it's not about whether i did or the staff did it correctly or not
i only wanted to point out that there is a problem
for most Chinese actors i see, there is no "given name" although i'm sure it must be filled in when submitted...
only an english name shown is not enough in most cases (and "aka" should be used for nicknames rather, not for birth names)

thanks anyway

The given name disappears when we approve a new actor submission.

And we still can't see the birth name/given name.

"Name" in actor profile was actually birth name. I've split it into the First and Last name row.

for actors where there is still "given name" displayed

https://mydramalist.com/people/10899-yin-andrew

https://mydramalist.com/people/973-chen-ivy

as "first name" now is English name shown, not their birth name

example:

  • First Name: Andrew
  •
  • Last Name: Yin
  •
  • Native name: 尹正
  •
  • Given name: Yin Zheng
  •
  • Also Known as: Yin Zhang

if you delete the line "given name" we will have only English name left ("Zheng" will disappear)

another point:
"family name" instead of "last name" would be more appropriate

Thank you, Family name more sense. We will look for a way to improve this.
