Wanting to become an actor, he dropped out of college, went to the army, and went to Seoul alone. It is said that he went to Seoul with only ₩700,000 and lived in a goshiwon. During the day, he learned acting on the theater stage in Daehangno and worked part-time at dawn.
He has never formally studied acting, and he says that all he learned was over his shoulder while working as a theater staff lighting.
He debuted with the audition opportunity for the 2013 tvN drama "Monstar".
In 2018, he won the SBS Drama Awards' Character Performance Award for his main role in "Return". In 2020, he won the SBS Drama Awards' Male Excellence Award for Mid-Length Drama for his support role in "The Penthouse: War in Life".
