After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, he entered the Department of Composition, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, Department of Composition in 1989, and completed the master's program at the same graduate school in 1991.
He studied under Minami Hiroaki, Kondo Jo, Matsushita Isao, and Mayuzumi Toshiro. While attending graduate school, he came up with a composition for saxophone from the performance of saxophone player Kumoi Masato.
On June 9, 2003, he married Matsumoto Shinobu, who was an announcer on NTV at the time.
Since 2006, he has been appointed as a director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and has expanded the range of activities within.
