You're not in the minority there are plenty of female fans who are loving this why else would the initial rating…
Please read my comment again. I wasn't discussing the show's overall popularity, only the final episodes. Based on the comments, it seems I enjoyed the last episodes more than most viewers did :) That's what I meant with minority. Also, what does the gender of the fans have to do with this?
Finally caught up on all the episodes. I guess I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoyed the last episodes more than the rest of the drama.
The plot was strong overall, but the execution could've been better. It felt really draggy at times. Honestly, I sensed the chemistry between the leads, but they didn't captivate me as a couple. Even tho they definitely had great kiss scenes, their "undying" love didn't feel convincing. It seemed like the writers and director didn't invest much effort in developing their relationship.
With a plot like this, their potential to be a dynamic, angsty and sizzling couple was immense, but it fell short. Additionally, the ML's character could've been explored more. Compared to 2ML, his character exploration was almost non-existent, which is disappointing because I really like the actor and believe they could've been an intriguing couple with better writing.
I'm having an unpopular opinion again, but I really liked the character and story of Su Rong Qing. For me, he was the most pitiful character of all and if this drama was based on him as the male lead, I bet everyone would be rooting for him lol
However, since he's the 2ML, the default dislike is unavoidable. But imo, he was the most fleshed out and I could understand all his actions and desire for revenge. Li Chuan became a monstrous emperor in the first life, so I wasn't on board with making him emperor again. Throughout the last episodes, I didn't care who would win, but I definitely couldn't blame Su Rong Qing for turning out the way he did.
But I agree 100% that he had too much screen time for a second lead. No wonder his story was more fleshed out and explored. If the writers put as much effort to leads's characters and relationship, I would've liked, understood and enjoyed them more.
Acting-wise, I agree that the leads were much better. Chen He Yi was decent but not outstanding for a character like Su Rong Qing.
Honestly, the background story of FL and 2ML as a couple could've been angsty, intriguing and melodramatic if they were actually the main couple. They were already pretty angsty and had great scenes together, I can totally imagine the depth of angst and how great it could've been.
Overall, it was a good drama but could've been better :)
Also... Zhang Ling He's eyes are so beautiful β€οΈ lol okay bye :D
I wanted to binge-watch S2 when it finished airing, but couldn't hold myself back reading comments considering that it's ending soon... but after reading some, I feel like I will skip S2 all together... π I already knew about XL's ending, so I was prepared for that, but it seems the writers messed this drama up to a certain degree.
S1 was so amazing and I don't want this drama to leave a bad memory for me, so I guess S1 ending is the ending I chose to live with. I think I can live better without watching S2 ever. At least XL was alive π₯²
I'm not really into business but would like to start this for the cast and romance genre... Do you think this is reason enough to be able to enjoy this? π
And if it's hard to get into, can you tell me which episode it starts getting "more" interesting? I don't want to give up too early lol
Well, in my case, it's just innate in me to not like sml. But i have never hated one like this until now lol.…
I really wish they would put more efforts in PWX's backstory. It's really hard to relate to his complete devotion to FL.
We never got to see how he fell in love with her. Be it in the first or present life... I feel there would've been so much potential in ML's character if his motivations would be further developed...
Eventhough the past misunderstanding is cleared between the LiRong and PWX, everyone knows... for 18 years SRQ…
I mean he's definitely manipulative and schemes in his own interest, but the leads are the same... They act in their own interests too and try to manipulate situations from happening.
Can we blame him for trying to change the crown prince by any means necessary after his family was massacred in the first life?
People watch drama for Main Leads. Not for SML story line. It was focussed on how he does in his second life.…
I watch dramas for all characters and the overall story, not just the leads, so I guess I'm not prejudiced to any character per se.
SRQ is definitely not a saint and acting in his own interests (gaining power and try saving his family), but can someone blame him after what happened to him and his family in first life?
Also the leads are not that much better imo. Lots of grayish characters in this drama, which I actually prefer :D
I'm on episode 23 and can someone explain to me why there's so much hate toward SRQ? I'm watching the same drama, but it feels like I'm experiencing different emotions. I want to understand your perspective π
Is there another obvious reason besides him killing her in their first life? The FL also killed the ML, but you guys have no problem shipping them lol
I actually find SRQ more complex and interesting than the ML so far. At the beginning of episode 23, we see again how horribly the entire Su Family was massacred and how SRQ was castrated. I still pity him and am not surprised that he turned out twisted and obsessive considering what he went through.
He's no angel, but it feels like there's automatic default hate because he's labeled the "second male lead."
I don't ship him with Li Rong, but I actually like his story and find his character engaging. To me it seems like the writers spent much more time and depth showing SML's past, inner thoughts and feelings than they did for the ML.
I wish the writers had put the same effort into the ML's emotional world. Why do I feel like something is lacking? I want to understand his devotion for FL, but I fail to do so... I'm not on board of any couple in this drama so far haha π
I'm excited but not ready for the heartache π Not sure if my fragile heart will be able to watch season 2 while it's airing. I feel like I'm better off binge-watching this, like a band-aid that you rip off fast, so it hurts less ππ
Ep 27 and 28 were pretty much filler episodes. Sad, because the episodes of the last few days were so good and today's episodes were a complete snorefest imo π
I wish they would fill these filler episodes more with Bie Li & Sai Er scenes tho lol Third couple not really interesting for me, but I love leads and second couple... Suo Luo & Liu Ruo Qian are my least favourite couple.
Both couples are so adorable, I can't stop smiling while watching this drama β€οΈ
Who knew I'd grew to love Shang Bie Li that much? He was such an annoying and loud prick in the beginning. Now he's a loud sweetheart π
Not him complaining about the well-made food. That was HILARIOUS π "Why does this fish dish have fish? Why is the tofu so soft?" LOOOOOOL I laughed so hard! He's already had over heels for her and actually not really subtle about it. But our adorable Sai Er is too oblivious haha
I also found it funny how one of the Jinwu Guards in the back was carrying Sai Er's stuff when Bie Li accompanied her to Blossom Beauty. They all have to serve their hopefully soon-to-be sister-in-law already π

"Basically Love without sex is not love is the message" is definitely not a message I got from this or would like to think of it.
But it's interesting to see other people's thoughts. Thanks for your input and insight of view~π
