i think this movie is heavily inspired by late 80's-mid 90's Hong Kong movies, from the scoring, comedy style, the aesthetic, and the plot. The story doesn't have too much depth, it's more like a Drama SP rather than a movie. Would've been a great prologue for a rom-com drama.
I don't think I like Uchiyamada's daughter and wife, they were unsupportive throughout the whole drama and only…
I think it's a pretty common problem in Japan that (dedicated) principal spend less time with their family and put more effort in the school (just like Japanese salaryman). Uchiyamada's story is probably social critique by the creator that Principal should've spend more time with their family. That's why his wife didn't like him that much (although she is kinda money-oriented). as for the daughter she is just a typical "I hate my conservative parents" teenager.
Isn't it time for a new adaptation? I wish there'd be one following the manga from start to finish.
Remaking the series is a money move IMO, since there's fans that want more from Gokusen and those who want the series following the manga completely from start to finish (not just borrowing the character). Although it's a bit risky since it's really hard to replicate the charm from this version, unless they're making a high-budget version with perfect cast , since it's really hard to find perfect replacement for MatsuJun, and Tomohiro Waki (IMO Nakama Yukie still good enough to reprise the role)
Loved this season as well! :D I loved how Shimazaki Akira is passionate and serious about his job as a bodyguard…
the show is indeed cut short (by 4-6 episode if i'm not mistaken) due to Covid-19, you can see there's a bit of reshoot on episode 1 and flashback scene. and IMO that's not the intended ending, the part-timer boy may play a major part in the (intended) final arc. it's kinda teased in some scene.
If you're kinda confused regarding some of the OG character absence this season:
Shibayama: No concrete explanation, but when the baka duo (the returning paralegal from the first season) ask Nakamura about Shibayama (without mentioning his name) she said that she doesn't know his whereabout anymore. I assume that he and Nakamura broke up in between the first movie and the second season. Regarding his whereabouts probably it's either he is resigning from the job or transferred to other office.
Nabeshima: Passed Away in between the first movie and the second season
Maiko: Returns in the second movie, but didn't appear in the series.
The security from the first season and Ito Shuji (Baba's paralegal) is indeed the same character.
