I'm looking forward to the next episode. Hopefully, the siblings' love life will get more airtime. I have had enough of Sang-do. Every episode he gets more and more annoying. Can he please just relocate to the mainland! I really didn't like how Young-pil and Sang-do were bickering/fighting over who should give up. Tbh it's not even up to them. It's up to Samdal if anything and she clearly only sees Sang-do as a friend. I'm not happy to see the assistant is back in the picture and has even gone back to Samdal's hometown. I sincerely hope that she is coming back to apologise, but we all know she is too vile of a human being to even do that. She is probably there to get Samdal to help her with her upcoming project, sigh. I had completely forgotten that the assistant was even part of the storyline. I thought that chapter was closed, at least until the the last 2-3 episodes.
Umpopular opinion but I am waiting on the ex-husband to stand up and take charge. As a woman I know there are…
I thought the same. It's quite obvious that she deeply cares for him. She just gets "annoyed" with him to protect her own feelings, similar to how Samdal keeps running away from Young-pil to protect hers too. Because imo if they let their guard down they would both crumble. They even mentioned this episode that Jindal stayed with him for 5 years. She said that the family didn't treat her poorly but we know that wasn't the the case. She must have loved him to have stayed that long by his side. It's now time for him to be by her side, especially after all he did for her. I also think another reason why she doesn't want him around her is because is to both protect him (so he doesn't get disowned by his family) and to make sure her feelings for him don't resurface.
At this point, I want a spin-off for the other two sisters. It's such a shame that the show isn't giving them much screentime and giving way too much to Sang-do!!! I'm sorry but I really could care less about Sang-do. Please, just give up , at least for my sanity. He really doesn't add much to the show, unlike the other two friends. I'm soo invested in the blooming romance for the other two sisters. If the show gave them more screentime, that would be the motivating factor to continue watching, whilst the main leads, particularly the FL, are behaving somewhat immaturely.
yongpil’s dad got all the right to never look at them again ngl 😭
Not really. I can see his fury for Sam-dal's mum. But to extend that to the whole family is too much and irrational at this point. I find it very difficult to sympathise with him, despite his grieve for his wife.
I'm still a tad confused. Who broke up with who then? As earlier in the season there were 2 break ups. And it…
From my understanding, there two breakups. The first one was done by Samdal and the second Young-pil, hence why Samdal states he broke up with her. Now, we know why she broke up with him. However, we don't entirely know why he broke up with her. Based off this and the previous episode, I think Young-pil broke up with Samdal because of his dad too, hence why he was crying in his room despite her calling out to him. Both of them are not aware that the other broke up with them for the same reason and I guess they both assume it was because the other no longer liked them. We don't entirely know yet how much time passed and what happened between the 1st and 2nd breakup.
It is sad to watch Ha Yul denied her mother by calling her "Auntie" in the hope that the dolphin guy would be…
Omg!! Thanks for explaining this. I was so confused as to what she called her mum "Auntie". I thought she did that because she was annoyed with her mun and didn't want her mum dating again but that doesn't really make sense. It sad that she has already caught on that society views single women as less desirable or attractive when they already have children.
Not Yong pil's dad locking his grown up son in a room after taking it upon himself to ask his girlfriend to break…
Literally!! I'm going to need a better explanation than the one we have gotten. Right now I can't even stand to look at Young Pil's dad's face. He just irritates at this point. He is soo controlling and spiteful.
FL mom still hidden about health condition and continuing diving despite her health condition. She is selfish…
Right!! It doesn't even make sense why they were in the water in the first place the second time since she said the weather seemed off before jumping in.
How did the Fl character show that the 30 year strong relationship is still there? She basically was done with…
Hey, sorry another long post :)
Yh, I completely see your point. In fact, only now I have just realised that there are few to none kdramas where the roles are reversed. I think that's because in the reverse the ML would be considered a "bad" boy and therefore not suitable for the FL, especially since romance/comedy dramas are often told from the FL's POV. Unfortunately, I think that if a romance/comedy drama did portray the story in the reverse the ML would be considered a cheat and so that's why this scenerio is often placed on the 2ML who becomes the "villain" (the terrible person who broke the FL's heart, and then the actual flawless ML would step in to make her happy etc.) I also think the reason we don't see it in reverse is due to the fact the stereotypically the romance/comedy genre is tailored for a female audience, who typically wants to the ML to be flawless and perfect. And for that to be the case, he should be dating other women. Alot of time, the person that the audience sympathizes with the most is is dependant on the main character, i.e. the perspective the story is told from as we tend to get alot of their insights told to us directly and we usually have to infer the view points of other characters based on their actions. For me, if it was reversed, I would like to the story to be told from the ML's POV. A good example that I liked where the romance was shown from the ML's POV was the interest of love. It has such a good and griping first two episodes. It really pulled me in and I could feel all the awkardness and second-hand embarassment from the ML. I didn't particularly like where the story went afterwards but nonetheless it was a strong start.
There is definitely some laziness involved when writers use the same tropes over and over and over again. Perhaps, I'm fortunate that I'm still new to the kdrama world that the tropes don't bother me as much. I do love though when writers play with the tropes and change them up. This can be seen in Mr. Queen, where the childhood connection made things worse for the FL and ML, and Call it Love, where FL's character was more aligned with stereotypically male characteristics.
Yes, it is the same for me. The reason why I watch tv, dramas, movies is primarly to something new and fresh and be surprised by the plotline. I liked to get lost in their world, and hopefully learn something after I finish the tv or movie. However, for me, I make exceptions for the romance/comedy genre because I feel at this point almost everything that can be done has been done, in terms of two people falling in love (well, debatable). There is not much you can really do with just that, and not include some form of tropes or add in annoying obstacles, such as a love triangle (which is never really a love triangle) sudden breakup (usually between episode 12-15) and then a time-skip, to keep the storying going for 16 episodes. For me, what differentiates a romance/comedy drama from mediocre and amazing mostly comes down to the cast, their dynamics and the way actors portrayal of stereotypes and tropes. Again which is why I don't watch too many. My favourite romance kdramas are typically those where romance isn't the main focus or there is an interesting sub-plotline that keeps the story together, these are usually tagged as romance/drama. That way, tropes are mostly avoided since they aren't needed to keep the story going. For example, I absolutely love Flower of Evil. It had a perfect mixture of romance, action and thriller (my favourite genres), which I rarely see on TV (even outside kdramas) which is a shame. I have found if the focus is too much on romance then there too many tropes and if the focus on another genre, e.g. drama, action, thriller etc. then the romance part is left undeveloped. A little annoying but oh well. What I would love to see though in the romance/comedy kdramas is a love triangle that is actually a love triangle (or even a love quadrangle between ML, FL, 2FL, 2ML), where the audience has absolutely no idea which who the FL and ML are going to pick. And actually have the ML or FL end up with the second character in the end. However, I would love it to be done in a way that doesn't leave you frustrated and everyone is happy with the outcome.

Hey, i thought i would chime in. You raised some interesting points. To answer your last question, i can think of one kdrama that i thoroughly enjoyed that fits your description. It's okay, that's love. As to your previous points, it seems your problem isn’t with the drama itself but with the genre. Yes, it does seeem that the plots for romance kdramas are quite predictable. But i don't know about you, but isn't that why people watch them. They are often a source of comfort because their are light-hearted and predictable. I wouldn't call the drama stupid or the writers stupid either. Yes, there are quite a few tropes used in this drama and yes the ML does come across as a simp. But given, it's only been 2 episodes I think it’s unfair to give it quite harsh criticism. Personally, I'm not taking this drama seriously. I'm mostly watching it because I love Shin Hye Sun. I have very low expectations for the show. Even for me, this drama isn’t particularly my cup of tea. I don’t what bit is exactly but it comes across a little to polished for my liking and doesn't bring anything new to the table. That being said, I don’t think all need kdramas need to do that. The romance/comedy genre is always full of tropes which is why i tend to take breaks from them from time to time so the tropes don't become too annoying that i cannot watch the drama. Also, i'm very selective with the dramas i watch and don’t particularly watch many while they are airing. I usually wait until they are either completed or reach the half-way way point to make my assessment.
One last thing, i would like to add. Although, i do think the ML is a simp. That's just the nature of this drama and it was pretty obvious it would go that way from the teasers and trailers. I mean the trailer even gives away alot of the plot. I actually respectively disgree with your assessment that the FL doesn’t give a crap about the ML. We don't know much about her to really know this for sure. The first two episodes focused more on her career and didn’t give too much away about her personal feelings about her life. Although, we did get some insight during her drunk scene at the bar/restaurant. We know that she does feel lonely at times because she doesn't actually have any solid friends or relationships that hold. However, she doesn't typically show this to people and bottles up her feelings to give off this stern and competent woman with no flaws. Whereas, for Young Pil we know all his emotions and feelings from the start about literally everything, from his job to his unresolved feelings for FL. And yes, people do still date other people even if they still have feelings for another. That could have just been her way of trying to move on. Remember, from her point of view he broke up with her and she was heartbroken so she probably focused her career and nothing more than a few bad relationships here and there to help her try to move on. She might have also accepted that her relationship with ML isn’t meant to be due to the long distance too. There are few factors that stood in their way anyways. I also don't think we can say she never thought about the ML at all during these past 8 years. They share the same birthday so i'm sure he pops up in her mind. It's definitely easier to attempt to move on from someone if you don't leave near them or spend your time in the places that you used to spend together. I'm sure for Young Pil his hometown is full of reminders and memories of his time with the FL which definitely makes it harder to move on. Anyways, now she is back in Jeju island, she is faced confront any unresolved feelings that she hide away.
Sorry for this long post. It’s probably riddled with grammatical errors too.
It's hilarious seeing some users writing essays up and down the comment section just to hate on this drama when…
I completely agree. It's frustrating seeing negative comments about the drama, when it never presented itself to be anything but a comedic slice-of-life drama. It's not supposed to be taken too seriously.
I completely understand what you mean. But I think that is just all part of the genre. Most rom coms, especially…
Oh, apologies. You mentioned you were tired of the ex lovers to lovers trope. That's why I said that. If your main problem is the portrayal of the ML, then I agree that is the writer's fault.
