Yep. I said the same thing when the drama first started. As a reader 1st I am often disappointed by novel adaptations…
This is not a lengthy story. The actual novel itself goes as far as episode 21. All their life after they become boyfriend/girlfriend is in the 16 epilogues Gu Man later added. It's more like a short story than a full novel, but the whole thing is just simply cute. Jing Jing, as written, is just a wonderful character, and Reba & YangYang really did make the characters come to life in a very good and special way. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it and it should take not much of your time to read. There's a link to the English version online in one of the Discussion posts above. ;)
Yep. I said the same thing when the drama first started. As a reader 1st I am often disappointed by novel adaptations…
As per what we've said, nothing was "subtracted" and what was "added made the story cohesive".
In relation to the novel itself, the perspective is mainly Jing Jing's, but what is happening with Yu Tu when he's not around Jing Jing and his issues are in the novel based on various comments made by Yu Tu, other characters, online commentary & groupchats, and Jing Jing herself.
This is why this drama adaptation is so superb, because the writer herself is the only one who truly knows what is in Yu Tu's heart and mind, even if she didn't explicitly put it in the novel. Thus, the outcome of the drama is an even more well-rounded version of the story with all the Yu Tu gaps filled in... and it's why, I'm guessing, those who read the novel aren't bothered by watching all of Yu Tu's investment and time at work doing aerospace research and experiments in the moments that QJJ and him were separated because he didn't know his heart or her heart, for that matter, yet and was still processing. Others might find it boring but for those who read the novel, we understand that it was a particular process Yu Tu had to go through to find his way to a relationship with QJJ where they can accept each other fully and the lifestyles they lead, that would mean long periods of time a part, and having to be independent enough to handle it without losing sight of their romantic relationship. ;)

I had said from the start, there was nothing subtracted and what was added made the story cohesive and better all the way around. Yu Tu's perspective was just such a highlight of this drama that was juicer than the novel. Thank God Gu Man was the only one to touch the script. I fear what would have been had it not been this way.
I'll keep it simple.1) This is a drama adaptation of a novel loved by a lot of Gu Man fans.2) Gu Man was the sole…
I'll add as well that in an interview YY also said he visited the Aerospace Institute and hung out with workers there, and was told a lot. I think he spent like 3 days with them and he went on about how impressed he was about it. YY also read the book twice. So, YangYang deserves a lot of credit for really taking his character seriously, and making sure that every aspect of what Yu Tu was thinking, feeling, and struggling with would be conveyed.
You're absolutely right about the cinematography! The aesthetics of this entire drama was beautifully captured, and filmed. It was like opening up a high end real estate magazine enticing you to buy.
THIS ADAPTATION OF THE NOVELIST, WHO IS ALSO THE SOLE SCRIPTWRITER FOR THIS DRAMA, GU MAN'S WORK IS 100% PURE 'CANON' OF HER NOVEL, 你是我的荣耀 [Nǐ Shì Wǒ De Róng Yào] aka 'YOU ARE MY GLORY'.
**Any idea that the story should be remotely different than how it was produced is a prerogative of viewer personal opinions BUT any deviation would have, in fact, made it YOUR story, NOT Gu Man's novel by which it was adapted. The reason it was adapted was, namely, that her fans love her books so much they want to see it acted out.**
I really like dilraba and yang yang, but I don't think this show deserves such high of a rating. I would say it's…
I'll keep it simple.
1) This is a drama adaptation of a novel loved by a lot of Gu Man fans.
2) Gu Man was the sole script writer and there is not a person who read that novel who doesn't appreciate the fact that this entire drama sticks STRICTLY to the novel, as well as all SIXTEEN epilogues perfectly.
3) For those who loved the novel, seeing it manifest perfectly on screen was so appreciated that they believe it deserves the highest of ratings.
4) Based on comments, both by Cnetz other social media sites as well as MDL 70% of those who don't know a thing about the original novel this is adapted from still appreciate the quality of the drama and rated it high.
5) The other 30% of those who don't know a thing about the original novel this is adapted from want it to be the STANDARD C-drama with all the tropes, of love triangles, focus more on secondary couples than the leads, break ups, family arguments, people trying to sabotage them at work, fans who hate on them, maybe throw and egg or two at them... ..So, of course, they wouldn't think this was a good drama or it's boring or too slow, or not enough "talking about their issues and problems" or w/e other reason they come up with that says it shouldn't be rated high...
BUT FOR WHAT THE DRAMA WAS INTENDED.... AN ADAPTATION OF A NOVEL....
This was absolute the most perfect rendition of an adaptation to a drama that those who know better will most definitely rate it high... opinions not based on that don't carry much weight with them and never will. ;)
It was the Director's interviewTranslate by Google I'm thankful that the Director was too keen with the deatils…
I'll be looking out for this director. Not only did he do a good job, he seemed to work well with not just the actors, but crew and writers. He accepted a lot of input even if he made the final call that wasn't to their suggestions...because he definitely had a vision and it was a good one. Plus, he just seems to be an amenable kind of good-natured person all the way around. ;)
Here's more video .... the ending kiss in golf cart.https://video.h5.weibo.cn/1034:4672089723174972/4672090122225157
Did they not have another kiss in the final episode when he comes out and meets her, or is it just talk, talk, talk and maybe a hug? I'm holding off watching it because I want to savor the last moments. lol.
Oh, hell no! These 2 are so freaking adorable! Reba's legit like a rabbit bouncing around. YangYang and the Windows shutdown sound as well as the application error sound. Just classic! They match each other. They're just big kids having fun doing their job. I love it!!
why do i kinda feel like i want to open a discussion on the gaming part of the drama (and what it tells us about…
I am totally vibing with you. I don't usually comment everyday on a currently airing drama, but here I am, and most every time I do, I feel like I'm writing a novel on it myself. LMFAO!
I was hesitant on starting this because I'm not a fan of either Reba or YY. This ended up being a pretty cute…
Yeah, naw.
If you realize that after this drama was produced China launched astronauts to their first space station, then had their first ever spacewalk, especially considering the discussion that Yu Tu and Jing Jing have about the difference between USA's aerospace tech advancement vs China's plus the story of "YuTu" and "YuTu2" then really no further discussion needs to be had at all.
As a female in my 50s whose first serious employment out of college was working as a part procurement buyer for All Nippon Airways, then as a Program Manager in a aerospace manufacturing company, I both understand Yu Tu's position, as well as the dynamics of rich/poor male/female traditional employment. Believe me, there were few women in my field. That's why the story of YuTu1 is so important, and I've already posted about this down the comments so I'm not going to repeat myself, but I can guarantee this was a drama meant for Chinese, not international viewers. It's cultural that your average Chinese person would understand what's behind this story, and foreigners wouldn't. But, Gu Man's story, and how it's told isn't meant to be in your face and blatant. She expects that you get the subtleties of their gestures, expressions, even the billboards. Why the process of the rover is important, and how they stress on the movement of it. FYI, there's currently a functioning "YuTu2" on Mars, i.e. the 'fictional' rover in this drama. What more discussion needed to be had. He had a dream. Where he worked doesn't pay a lot comparatively what his college friends make but he sacrificed for his dream. He still managed to get a mortgage and buy himself a house, so he wasn't "poor", just not as rich as the woman he fell in love with... a woman who supported his dream and frankly could give a rat's ass how much he makes, she just wants to be with him. She wants to be with him so much she leaves her penthouse apartment to live at his home, AND she NEVER pays his mortgage or even SUGGESTS it. She keeps his masculinity intact. Go back and rewatch the discussion she had with her manager and assistant in the dressing room he made for her in his home. Why does this have to be some elaborate talk when the couple already addressed this in multiple ways on their own? I'm not following that line of thinking.
Also, I'm no fan of the CCP, and I'm definitely proud of my country's achievements, being that one of my jobs in manufacturing was the chem-milling of the dome of the external tanks of the space shuttles when they were in service. I have patches, and autographs of astronauts thanking me for my service, so I definitely know the pride you have in your citizens and country when you achieve that. No matter how much I might disagree with another nation on their politics, I STILL would never deny them the same right to be proud and show pride in their achievements. This is a Chinese drama for goodness sakes. Why can't it???
Dilraba's future work may not shown till early next year. If you have yet to watch her previous historical drama…
'You Are My Hero' has a good OTP. You won't get many tropes with them, nor any breakups. On the other hand, unlike YAMG, there is a secondary couple that gets a significant amount of screen time and their relationship does check off the trope line and is like pulling teeth. Don't expect much from them until the very end. ;)

I agree, I'm not saying skinship is necessary in every situation, but where appropriate. My point is, if you're gonna have leading co-stars that, irl, want to avoid as much contact with their counterpart as possible, fine. Nothing wrong with them wanting that if the production team is still willing to hire them. BUT... if you're doing that, then avoid the TOPIC all together! It's freaking stupid to hint at it or prank us with the 20x of ALMOST kisses, etc. Just don't go there at all. Because, if you go down that path, at least make it make sense and be real. The idea that 2 loving people won't even want to hold each other's hands or have some awkward sideways hug is ridiculous. Make the choice. Either you're doing realistic skinship or avoid it until you're at the point for a realistic scene. It's a cop out trolling viewers like that. =/

Plus, we still get a whole other week of counting, because Fast Track isn't the official end. 😁😉😊

Sorry, that's just my 2 cents on this.
