Fukada Kyoko, she has been my fav actress since I saw her on News no Onna although she only had a brief appearance. Despite being so young, she nailed her character, Masaki, so well. It was the perfect age to portray a passionate and rebellious high schooler. You can't help but rooting yet blaming her.
Kaneshiro Takeshi, such a dandy. He plays a character that has conflicted minds. He hates everything, has no passion in life, yet wants someone to understand his despair. Masaki, as a teenager, taught him how to love, live, feel joy and sorrow. A different kind of feelings then when he was with his deceased gf.
As if AIDS is not enough, Keigo's long time friend, Kaoru, has been having an unrequited love to him. She keeps sabotaging Keigo and Masaki. You would love to hate her. Kaoru only cares about herself. She is the exact reason of the couple's sufferings. They lost precious time they could spend together due to Kaoru's evil plan 😡
You know the plot, therefore you can foresee the ending. That's what make this drama precious. You will feel their pain, anger, stress, despair, hopelessness and sorrow. Their love story is so painfully beautiful. You just want to cherish their every moment.
Once you watch it you'll know why this drama was a hit and still everyone's favorite. Sorimachi as Onizuka is a masterpiece, an icon. It is cliche, old, cheesy, but it will make you cry and laugh, then think about your youth and life.
I love this drama, but I wish they could write a better ending. Though they didn't shot the scenes together, their acting is great and both are so likeable.
I'm currently on ep 13/14 and I'm surprised that this one is interesting! I laughed a lot and the characters are so unserious, yet smart.
However among all the characters, I hate Jiang Ni. She's just a tsundere and spoiled brat. She knows ML will always forgive and protect her, so she acts like the master. I feel no sympathy for her either. Her reasons for wanting to kill him is blurry as well. If she really wants to kill him, why not using poison? For me she just wants his attention. At first few episodes it was okay, but she's getting on my nerves pretty quick.
Rather than her, the lady in white is much more interesting. Shrouded in mystery and ML has more chemistry with her. Hong Shu and Qing Niao are also way more interesting than the spoiled brat and her friend with a kitty.

This is her second time working with Yaoke and the novel is well loved. There is no need for buzz. Is it the work of the director? Or yaoke really wants to promote their newcomer? Meng Ziyi is not Ju Jingyi, Esther Yu or Zhao Lusi. Instead, just like you said, it will boost her haters.
We still have 2 months left. I sincerely hope the crew respect Meng Ziyi as the FL and not trying to do anything shady.
