If she was not his teacher (relation of hierarchy), their relationship would have been totally legal. Their age is irrelevant as they are both above the age of consent.

Age of consent is currently 15 in most of Europe. It was 13 in Japan at the time this drama was released. So no, it was not illegal per se if she was not his teacher.
A masterpiece, the best J-drama I have watched so far. I feel so empty now. :(
If you loved this drama, I strongly recommend Byakuyako/Into the White Night (the original 2006 Japanese drama version, not the movies).
It has the exact same feeling as this drama: a forbidden relationship with the whole world against them, continual pain for the leads but they keep wanting to be together above all, several timespans (starting during high school days, then adulthood). The cinematography is also beautiful in the same style that makes old-school J-dramas so great (alternance of saturated and dull colors, etc.), and the OST is of the same quality level as Chugakusei Nikki. This drama will leave you totally empty and destroyed too at the end.
So The student.and the teacher where in a relationship when the student is only 15 years old?? are u kidding meEw…
People likes you make me laugh. Instead of whining about a fictional drama, have a look at the reality like the president of France and his wife. The age gap was 2 times bigger than in this drama (she was also his teacher, married and was almost 40 years old at the time and him 15) ... Yet, nobody calls her that.
Korean shows in general has better screenplay, scene writting etc. That's why many prefer them over other Asian…
Do you really think so? From my observations, it's the opposite. People are much harsher with Kdramas and even more harsher with Jdramas. For a Jdrama to get over an 8, it must be a real masterpiece, while a lot of Cdramas like Falling Into Your Smile, Go Go Squid!, and You Are My Glory, which are absolutely mediocre, get over an 8.
It looks like an average American TV series. Even funnier is that Korea's most prestigious high school looks completely…
Exactly my thought. Westernization ruins Kdramas. And Netflix loves doing this to appeal to a broader american audience ... We just want english subs but stop with the westernization shit.
This is meh. As expected with westernized Netflix drama. 80% of them turns out to be mediocre. A high budget is not enough to make a good show, this show brillantly demonstrated it.
This is basically an american TV show with korean actors, not a korean drama.
Just finished it. It was amazing. Both the story and the actors. Strongly recommend. Any suggestion for similar drama (e.g., friends sharing hardships). By the way, I did not really understand the stuff with Haru and the dude in the park.
Not at all, it was 13 in Japan when the drama was released and is now 16.
Source is provided above.
In France, it is 15, in Germany it is 14, in Italy it is 14 too. Sources below:

And heist movies too, because robbing the bank is illegal, right?
And so on ...

I really like mind game drama (like Liar Game, Alice in Borderland, Die Now, etc.)
tldr : watch if you have nothing else to watch.
