Pray it won't be Allan Ren - he's already kind of ruined The Blue Whisper for me...
I've nothing against the actor per-se, but past performances have shown that he just can't deliver when it comes to conveying complex emotions in a subtle way.

I also started it twice and every time switched to some other drama that was way more compelling.
I rarely drop dramas mid-way so this really bugged me. I've now started reading the novel which from the start is way more compelling than the drama version. Allen Ren is definitely a complete mis-cast for this role - he just can't do stony-face and still convey emotion. The costume/make-up did nothing to help him either.
He simply does not come across as the mesmerisingly beautiful, god-like creature described in the book that so fascinated the FL.

I think he can only do one type of role as the "stern-faced general". I liked him in "Under the Power", but found him incredibly boring in The Blue Whisper.

I think the short episodes on YouTube are just previews... It says to get the app for the full length.

I finally managed to force myself through this (I wanted to know how it ends...) and I can say without any doubt that this drama has one of the most annoying female leads that I have ever seen. It's not the actress (who I like a lot) but the way this character was written: meak, indecisive and unable to speak up when it would be most important. I know she was supposed to be a bit naive falling into this unknown world, but naive is not the same as lacking personality. The story supposedly covers more than two years in which there is zero personal development.
Her indecisiveness made it feel like this drama dragged on forever without anything (other than the sidestory) happening. Even in the end it feels like she still did not fully commit to her choice.
If like me you like strong female leads who know what they want, I suggest you stay away from this frustrating drama.

Aaaah, this is so beautiful... it makes waiting for the whole drama even harder!

The most annoying thing is the FL's permanent swaying between the two leads.... I could understand it that she feels confused about her own feelings, but then the natural thing would be to take some time to reflect, not going back and forth between the two. I'm on ep 34 now and this is a problem that doesn't get any better as the drama progresses. I mean, one minute she's swooning in the grass with one of the MLs, the next minute she believes everything a guy who just tried to betray and murder this ML tells her.

I really like the actress (in her other roles) and she was the main reason why I started watching this, Her acting is ok, what makes her so annoying is the way this character was written. She's supposed to be from the future, but a present-day 10-year-old is less naive than her.

Yeah, he truly is so stuck-up and colourless that it's painful to watch. I've never seen the actor in anything else, so I kind of think (hope) that it was intentional.

Watched this while on holiday... it's light entertainment. I wasn't expecting much, so wasn't disappointed. The acting is ok, the cooking bits are entertaining, but there are quite a few holes in the plot. Some things that happen are never explained, the ending seems a bit rushed. I think quite a bit of material must have been cut from the original production to make it fit into the 24 episodes.

I was merely replying to your statement "I can't see that happening in real life" to tell you that it does happen in real life, both today as throughout history, so this storyline is indeed plausible.
I never said that I find it normal, acceptable or to quote your words, not weird. There are a good reasons for relations between blood-relatives being prohibited in most cultures.

Started watching this and while I find it quite entertaining, I feel a bit exasperated at the number of times (per episode!) that the ML has to carry the FL.
Did Zheng YeCheng have a beef with the scriptwriter? I mean, we all know he's athletic but there's no need for this endless weight lifting, is there?

Romantic relations between siblings are not that rare and aren't even limited to modern times... I remember a few years back a couple even went to court in Germany for the right to get married.
Historically, just look a the troubled relationship between Lord Byron and his step-sister or to go further back, brother-sister mariages were a very common practice amongst the royals of the Ptolemean era.
Generally speaking, there would be less of a taboo around the relationship of adopted siblings as the main reason for such a taboo lies in the genetic problems that the children of blood-related parents would face. Again, this is not modern knowledge, the ancients were very well aware of this.

Really? I find him hilarious! Remember the character is written as someone who is completely detached from worldly desires and emotions, but he somehow keeps a wicked sense of humour.
I've watched this series several times by now and the sweet-sour fish episode always has me in stitches.

It's a completely different story. Bai Qian and Ye Hua are mentioned regarding their family ties with the FL (Bai Feng Jiu - Bian Qian's niece) and BQ also has a guest appearance in one episode.
Personally, I preferred this series to TMoPB. It's closer to the book, there is less focus on side-stories (which I found a bit boring in TMoPB) and the storyline feels somewhat rounder.
Also, if you have watched TMoPB erase the DongHua-FengJiu storyline from your mind. Again, this is something that isn't in the original novel but I guess the writers for the series wanted a second couple so they made up a storyline.

Yes, I would not want to see this arc deleted, it was entertaining and served to show us that FL is inquisitive even if it gets her into trouble and that ML is prepared to literally tear down walls to save her. Also, that flying dagger was impressive!
I think rather than deleting stuff the should have added an episode or two so that we get to see some more details that could support the story.
For me, if I had to cut somewhere it would be the family interaction (expecially the hysterical granny) in the first few episodes. Her mother neglected her and the granny is greedy, it didn't need so many episodes of family drama to work that out.
