He looks a bit different because he lost a lot of weight specifically for this role to match Prince Xin’s state. At the time of filming he was down to 65 kg which for 184 cm, is really not much.
The dubbing voice is awful. It really ruins his otherwise stellar performance.

All the political stuff has been removed and replaced by the usual idol drama tropes. The purpose and context for the characters has been reduced to either chasing power or the FL.

For one, I hate these doormat type characters. The CP was already quite boring in the novel and they even removed the few fits of jealousy that were hilarious in the novel.
As for Jeremy’s character, Prince Xin, he has been thoroughly ruined by the enlightened scriptwriters. The acting is stellar as expected, but this must be the umpteenth role of the same type that he is cast in. It feels like an insult to his talent that he is always just cast in such roles.

The scriptwriters successfully removed all the political manoeuvres that made the original story interesting and replaced them with pure sugar-water.

You clearly haven’t watched the latest episodes, otherwise you’d know that he did all that.
Gu Qingzhi knew very well that the removal of her family was inevitable for the emperor to consolidate his power. She is far too rational to hate Xiao Changqing for this. When he asked her reaction was indifferent.
The fact that she doesn’t love him (or anyone else) is rooted in her personality. It has nothing to do with what he did.

Watch the latest episodes and you will know that he did everything that he could.

She agreed to the marriage because it was a political one and she saw it as a means to protect her clan, so they both benefited. However, once her clan got killed, this purpose was lost and for her the marriag3 became meaningless.
Also, just a heads up, judging ancient drama characters by modern standards doesn’t always work. In these days women were rarely asked for their opinion so it was perfectly normal for her family to trade a daughter for political influence.

This is based on how it was in the novel. They have changed quite a bit in the drama version, but so far the plot line regarding the CP follows the novel. It was a plot twist towards the end and I hope they kept this in the drama because it was so good!

Well, the fine difference that many people don’t seem to get is that she didn’t love him because her character was indifferent and incapable of love, not because he did anything wrong. She simply didn’t love him or any other man.
As for Prince Xin, there is nothing wrong with simply loving a person without being loved back and do whatever he can to protect her. His feelings only turned into an obsession after she died. The scriptwriters are laying it on a bit thick because they love that trope. Sadly it makes the character feel less genuine.

This is so much more powerful than the boring dubbed voice. There was absolutely no reason to dub him!

The emperor is a victim of his mother just like everyone else in the story. She is the real evil force behind it all, closely followed by Consort Rong (the woman who gave the poison to her son’s wife!).

I think the screenwriters get paid per trope that they manage to place. There was no such thing in the novel.

No, they switched the children. In the novel the emperor’s real son is taken away and disappears, but the crown prince comes up with a doppelgaenger to play on the emperor’s guilt.
They simplified the plot far too much. The political intrigues were delicious!

How was he responsible for the downfall of her family?
They were framed by the Fan clan and the emperor happily accepted their evidence because it suited his political aim to break the dominance of the noble families.

He didn’t kill her family. It was the emperor who was even cruel enough to make Prince Xin overseeing the execution the condition for saving his wife.
What kind of father is this?

It’s an idol drama when looks are more important than acting skills. The plot centers around the ma8n couple and any political intrigues are just decoration and dumbed down for 5-year.olds.

Hengdian is a dangerous place…

In the novel, they didn’t look alike at all. In the drama they used the same actress, but we never get to see her face.
