Just finished the first episode and, to be honest, it was extremely boring. Is the series worth sticking with?
I found the first episode a bit “un-engaging”, if you know what I mean. This wasn’t because it was boring stuff, but because they introduced so many characters in that first episode that it was a bit hard to relate to any of them. I usually watch three episodes before I decide to drop something (unless it’s really horrible) and it quickly became much more interesting.
So with only 1 day 15 hours 47 minutes and 39 seconds until until the next episode....sigh...I've begun to think…
Not exactly the same genre, but Story of Kunning Palace definitely had fewer boring passages. Here they are really overdoing it with the longing looks set to music under a rain of flower petals. So cliched and so boring!
Episodes 13/14 were a bit boring… Nothing much happened and those repetitive sequences of the main leads staring at each other while the theme song is playing are so annoying. Fortunately, the story picked up speed again after that and ep. 16 was brilliant. The little princess is really impressive and so is the actress!

Ooooh, what a sight for sore eyes 😍😍😍 I could stare at those pics all day long… Very few actors can wear so much bling bling and still look dignified 😀
Jeremy Tsui had cosmetic eyelid surgery many years ago and it's now really awkward to see as that 'style' of eyelids…
Surgery or not, he looks pretty damn good to me! There’s probably very few Chinese actors/actresses who haven’t had cosmetic surgery of some sort. It’s even getting worse with some of the younger ones barely being able to move their faces. And guess what, it’s all thanks to shallow people like you, who think that eyelids can become “outdated”, that all these actors/actresses feel pressured to mess with their faces.
I think he is… I don’t understand any Chinese. He used his own voice in The Autumn Ballad and a few others and everyone loved it. But I think he doesn’t like to do it because it’s boring work.
And he will be great at it! I that hope Leo can convince him (leading by example 😉) to do his own dubbing so we get to hear that snarling villain voice…
I rode horses for over 10 years when I was younger and it pains me to see them yank their heads around to turn…
Oh, I think that will forever remain a dream 😢 with all the clothes they’re wearing that may be too difficult for most of them, but the horses could be easily trained to stop with a light touch of the reins or a voice command. For some weird reason it seems obligatory in Chinese dramas to continuously shout at the horses to make them gallop (something I’ve never heard of in real life…) so why can’t they use another command to stop?
I thought so too. I always want to see JT as unhinged villain. His character in Chongzi is not really serving.
Don’t mention CZ! It feels like he wasn’t allowed to act at all in this one. So far Yuwen Hu is his best “unhinged” role… so I have high hopes for this one.
I love the story and the acting, but I really hate to see so many horses being mistreated. It totally spoils my fun when I see horses being brought to fall in such a brutal way or people yanking on the reins like crazy. Most people don’t know this, but just picking up the reins without pulling already puts a pressure of 1-2 kg on a horse’s jaw. Now imagine how many kilos are pressing down on the horse’s jaw for it to open the mouth like this in pain. The cruelty to humans in this series is all make-believe, but sadly the cruelty to the horses is real!
