I have a question before I start this. I know this drama is toxic but I want to know whether the male lead Cheng…
Technically, he did have some spine when he left LF multiple times, considering that he was the man who famously can ruin your life. Mind you, LF was someone with inhuman strength and YC was weak physically, he's not some mary-sue character who suddenly found power to fight back in the name of love nor he is a character in a fantasy romance story that suddenly have the world turn the wheel to favor him when he wanted to fight. Once LF used his strength, YC is a dead-meat, so he fought back in the way he can, which is leaving. Not leaving the house, leaving town, like get away from their life.
There are things that changed from the novel to the show, which actually had some importance to his characters "Fighting back". But I'll just point out the latest difference in YC reaction from recent episode. YC was basically asked by someone if he wanted to leave LF after he kidnapped him, the book he firmly and quickly nodded because, well, he was tortured mentally and physically. The show, he wasn't tortured, merely under "house arrest" and provoked (and technically assaulted, but the show, it's a bit more complicated in some scenes where this happens because YC actually reciprocated, which he never do if he didn't want to) so the character a lot more hesitant, but still nodded.
I hope that's enough to give you an idea what kind of character YC was in the show.
Also, Revenged Love is a different genre... not the book and not even the show. It's more of a romcom than dark romance. To My Shore is a lot closer if you want to compare.
YES! I ABSOULUTELY AGREE. I also made a discussion talking about Yichen's behavior and the stockholm syndrome…
Also, the moment YC realized (wrongly assumed) that LF is in love with Ke Luo, he was ready to get out of the house. That fight in the book with Zhou Lan and Lu Feng, YC was firmly nodding his head RIGHT AWAY when Zhou Lan asked YC if he wanted to leave LF, so he wasn't in some kind of delusion that he loved the torturer.
I think at the end of the day, the reason why YC kept choosing LF was not down to he had stockholm syndrome, but because unlike, in the show, YC actually often made bad life decision, so him choosing LF wasn't that surprising. He wasn't the paragon of good decision making he believes, WHICH had already been foreshadowed in chapter 2 vol. 1.
in the novel he says that he will dedicate his life to him because he wasted 20 years of his...while he had a…
That's not what he said... It was a melancholic realization of what he had done to LF during the time he and LF finally got to actually sit down and talk like adult, and that he too had hurt Lf and left him to fend for himself while he ran away from their problem never having anything for LF but hate.
The reason why he stayed with LF was never really stated other than that, yes he loved LF and wanted to stay with him. But if you actually read YC personality during the few final chapters, it was obvious he was pretty much self-deprecating and have zero self-esteem because, well LF destroyed it during his kidnapped period and the brain damaged destroyed his ability to work other than menial labor. Not to mention, LF did make sure YC was absolutely dependent on him after that.
it's really hard to change people's mind, especially asian oldies lmao
it's also hard knowing the historical context too, that homosexuality somewhat exist but never questioned nor asked because at the end of the day, for a good chunk of their history, actual marriage is politics and making babies is duty.
Girl, GMM would be crying if they saw the amount of OSTs this show has while they barely pushing 2 on usual shows and 3-4 on musical shows. WITH LESS AMOUNT OF MONEY.
🤣🤣🤣 sarcasm right? As sick as one has to be to randomly plot to ruin a stranger’s life, you really…
"A person like LF would also ruin and wreck anyone that harms his love interest. " This is really good point about LF and irony in the story, that even though this is true that LF will protect his lover, he's also the number 1 threat to his lover's life.
Why does the brother exist tho? That too with a love plot of his own. He's just an annoying character through…
The title of the novel is "Double Cheng" as in Cheng Yi Chen (with Lu Feng) whose story is from volume 1 to 3 and Cheng Yi Chen (with Qin Lang) from vol 4 to 5 (I believe there are only 5 but I could be wrong)
It also play on word that means "Double Journey" and the name drop was actually during the fight between Lu Feng and younger brother, after which Lu Feng asked Yi Chen if they could go back to the way they are. In here, the word Lu Feng used in the novel was "circling" as in coming back home after going away from a journey, hence the more popular title of the novel, "A Round Trip to Love" (fun fact from the translator, iirc the word LF used also had implied meaning that things has changed, so the circle is not perfect, which was why Yi Chen replied by saying they could never return to the way they were)
As someone who read the book, I didn't feel bad at all, he did worse, but personality wise tho. (Major spoiler…
He wasn't THAT different, but like many things in the show, they did downplay his bad decision. He's a hooligan who fell in love with TC junior and didn't really care/indifirence towards other people, and this include YC and his estranged son, Lin Jing. I don't think it will appear because Lin Jing should've appeared in episode 7/8 but didn't. They also changed the year of separation from 20 down to 5 and Ke Luo to be LF's nephew instead of his son.
As someone who read the book, I didn't feel bad at all, he did worse, but personality wise tho.
(Major spoiler from another book that shared universe with this story) Well, he is, or would be, a deadbeat father, so that's another reason for me to not like him.
I really want to spoil the book lol cause they cut a scene that would've explain why the brother was so vehemently…
yes, but honestly, it makes YC more human that he slept with QL, especially since they were dating and tried to move on from LF, instead of your typical mary-sue character that never done bad thing. QL was painted as the better LF which he performed stellarly.
I think the biggest problem with the decision is with the lil bro fight with LF, cause the lil bro anger was unjustified which made a lot of people confused as to what was his motivation to be THAT angry.

It's long, so bear with me.
So what happened with lil bro and QL was very different than in the book. QL accidentally met YC at the bar without lil bro, and QL thought YC was his lil bro because in the book they look a lot like each other (which is probably why they didn't do it in the series), and QL mistook him for lil bro. They met again, and long story short, YC had sex with QL in a car, and QL carried YC to lil bro apartement cause he thought YC is the lil bro. But lil bro opened the door, but after the revelation, lil bro actually force QL to date YC, which QL agreed. through out their dating, lil bro made sure QL be the perfect LF and the charade was continue but QL actually liked lil bro, and YC still hung up on LF which irritated QL as well. Then the almond cake things happens like in the show, but QL had sex with YC afterwards, calling YC name, but actually calling the lil bro (cause lil bro and YC both had the same name, Yi Chen), and YC had the forboding feeling that QL wasn't calling him. But YC found LF was engaged, so he decided to fully forget him and focus on QL, but when he got into his brother flat, QL was there fighting lil bro basically revealing the whole charade to YC, and QL was basically non-challantly apologizing to YC for mistaking him and had sex with him thinking he was his lil bro, and YC ran away, after falling from the stair iirc, leaving lil bro and QL to another city.
So basically when LF accused YC of sleeping with other men, YC couldn't retort back because he HAD sleep with someone else, and that person was QL thanks to the lil bro. And at the scene where LF was fighting with Lil bro, and revealed this, lil bro basically went livid because he was actually the reason why YC couldn't be, "I am always faithful to LF and never had sex with someone else" because lil bro made him date QL. He was projecting his guilt to LF because he was angry that he himself was the reason LF could accuse YC of being unfaithful, even though, despite having relationship with QL, LF was the one in YC's mind.

Absolutely gold line.

Just kidding, I was just trying to be funny lol
