Is this drama considered heavy? Or just light hearted and easy to watch?
You got further than I did. It's weird sometimes when a show begins and you find it compelling and you begin to connect with characters, but 40 minutes later you're ready to cash it in.
Meh.. I'm dropping it 3/4 of the way through the first episode. Piqued my interest at first but now that the old manager is out running races to qualify for security guard positions I realized it's not very funny or very dramatic...it's boring.
There is so much good content out there, in both comedy and drama and the combination that I no longer try to hold on to shows that don't grab me by the throat in the early going, which is what they need to do, especially when you're asking your audience to watch 24 episodes. Yikes.
The manager was so hateful and beligerent and ridiculously abusive to the intern that I hated him, so why would I want to watch that character for 24 hours? Plus I don't get what happened after the intern had the recipe book the mgr. stole. Why didn't he expose him and bring him and the company down? They just kind of dropped that element of the plot...weird.
What a weird film. In tone, I'd describe it as pro-war/anti-war propaganda. I got that Kamikaze pilots were human beings too, and just very young men, some of whom volunteered, but many of whom were ordered to fulfill the suicide missions and warned not to come back alive. But then all of a sudden a portion of the movie would feel like pro-Imperial, militaristic, fantasy propaganda worthy of Cold War/Communist propaganda at its finest.
Especially by the end, I think the film lost its way and became entirely glorifying of these young "heroes," who "we owe so much." What, exactly, is owed? They were forced to give their lives for a lost cause, to save face and perhaps get better peace terms, and that was it. Yes, they were owed their lives back, but who's going to give them that?
The film did show in authentic war footage that many of the Kamikaze planes missed their targets and went into the water. The Kamikaze concept was extremely inefficient and generally ineffective. But then we'd be back to propaganda speeches from the old lady while chanting choir voices soard above the clouds. Like I said, tonally this was all over the place. Low point is the firefly scene near the end. Please.
Lots of bad acting and some downright cheesy sets, but the naval battle near the end was pretty spectacular. I'm not sorry I watched it, but I almost bailed about 3/4 of the way in out of boredom. And that old lady's bad wig and terrible old-lady voice had me wanting roll her wheel chair down that hill into the Pacific Ocean.
I feel the grudge aggravated all the more because they became neighbors coincidentally.
If you don't believe that part of the reason Ohm works on his body is so that he can show it off for our enjoyment, you are an idiot. I don't care if you're "queer," bi, trans, ace, pan, straight, whatever...you've got issues with sex. BTW, I can't think of one Mapplethorpe photo in which the body of the subject is not exquisitely fit and fine, at least among his most famous pictures. That's not by accident, you know. Those bodies are for our enjoyment and admiration and are presented as objects of sexual desire, among other things. BTW, ,did you call all the models in Mapplethorpe's photos and get their verbal and written consent before soaking in their beauty?
Fun to see Suda Masaki in the first really adult role I've seen him in. I knew he would be excellent no matter the role, and he was. It's not easy to make such a technical, inner-workings type plot captivating, but I think this film succeeded in doing that. In the middle I was tempted to opt out but then things picked up again and I stuck around. That opening naval battle scene is utterly astounding in its intricate choreography, CGI and acting. Every one of those actors seemed like real sailors doing their jobs while being totally terrified. The underwater CGI and explosions with all the sailors was unbelievably realistic, horrifying and beautiful. WOW. The twist at the end in the thinking behind the ship's purpose was mesmerizing and made total sense to me Great movie. 8.5/10

I don't know that I've ever seen a person write so much about so little here on MDL. I have stated multiple times, including in our conversation I believe, that I think Ohm is a good actor. I also think he has a great body, which he obviously works on to make beautiful. And he does that for the enjoyment of his audience. But even if he were a terrible actor, and the only reason I watched this show was to appreciate his body, there is nothing wrong with that. The moment an ACTOR AGREES to film a scene in which they are unclothed, OF COURSE they have given consent to be ogled and made a sex object as much as anyone chooses to, and there's nothing wrong with that either. You just think there is because you have issues with sex being "dirty" or "bad" or something fucked up. That's not my problem but you're like an old church lady when it comes to the human body. Your use of the SJW term "problematic" is another sure sign that you are of that sex-phobic, politically correct element that sees every human interaction as rape and every enjoyment of the human body and sexual function as perverted. Your loss. Totally disagree with you: A photograph of a human body is every bit as much a work of art as a painting. God, that's been a fact for the couple hundred years photography has been around.
Sharing our thoughts and some criticisms is fine, but note that it’s all our own perceptions that can be biased/flawed.Most…
I just wanted to say it's more than a little weird how you are kind of telling people how to think and what to think about and how to express it here in comments. Why don't you just worry about what YOU write and leave other people alone.
It's clear you're desperate to skew the discussion of this series in a favorable direction. Why do you care so much?

What a nonsensical reply. Yes, showing Ohm half-naked DOES indeed sexualize him and reveal his body for the visual appreciation of the audience and there is nothing the least bit wrong with that. In the theatre scene where Ohm has his shirt off for a long time, the character is deliberately sexualizing himself by revealing his well-developed body and again Chrissy, there is nothing wrong with that.
As for getting Ohm's "consent" to talk about his hot body as a random stranger, I'm pretty sure when you take off your shirt for the camera's and the audience's appreciation in a widely-viewed series, you have alrady given your consent. You claim you have no beef with the "sexual stuff" and then turn around and say you have a problem with it.
Explain what is wrong with only wanting to see Ohm for his body 100% of the time and for no other reason? To me, in that regard, someone with a beautiful body on film can be appreciated just as you'd appreciate a lovely painting hanging on the wall. Since you disagree, I suggest you stare at the floor during scenes in which Ohm is undressed so as not to offend yourself.

Wow, you fucking psycho, do you not think the producers of this show are ALREADY "sexualizing" Ohm every time they get his shirt off in a scene, which has happened often? As Pran said to him behind that stage curtain as he handed him his shirt, "here, put your shirt on...you're making everyone drool..."
I'm sad for whatever has happened to you or what you imagine has happened or whatever it is that has made you to prudish and afraid of sex and sexual feelings. Sex is a natural part of life, no more "fucking weird" than any other part of life. You have a twisted perspective, Chrissy. I hope you get the therapy you need to help rid yourself of your angy, sex-phobic outlook.
The last part of your stupid comment makes my point most clearly: If it were "naked men" I wanted to see, there are web sites where I can see men far more naked than Ohm in any episode of this show doing things to each other that our delicate Pran has never dreamed of. But that's not what I want to see, brainiac. I want to see Ohm. Now bite me.
How shockingly reasonable of you. :D Yeah, the idea that professionally-produced series and movies should somehow…
I'm sorry, but you are misinterpreting my comment. I meant it as a compliment, in the sense that so many people here FREAK OUT at the slightest criticism of this show and show NO reason in coming down on the commenters who dare to express a negative viewpoint on any aspect of the show.
Your comment was very reasonable and thus shocking in a hyperbolic sense.

STFU is never going to be the answer to a problem as deep as this one. Many of those people could have been saved if the taboo against discussing suicide and mental health issues like depression and anxiety were lifted. A spike in numbers like that only indicates how many people were on the edge of doing it anyway. The actor's death was the final spark that gave them courage.
I feel the grudge aggravated all the more because they became neighbors coincidentally.
Mostly, it's hilarious that you are still going on about this...also, I basicall yFF to scenes where Ohm has some clothes off, watch that, then FF again.

Those houses are no more than 15 years old. They look like what we in the U.S. call "McMansions," big homes designed for people with way more money than taste.
I "genuinely want to know why you hate BB..." See that word "hate" in there, that YOU wrote?
I dislike the series because, in a nutshell, it's juvenile, without an ounce of originality, and most of the acting is horrendous. I see/feel no chemistrty between the leads and Nanon has zero leading man qualities. Even the sets (especially the bus stop) are cheap and poorly made.
