Chinese dramas can take years before they air, so the promotion is no joke... long trailers, posters and many many stills are released way before the drama actually is released... I even saw an 1 hour long trailer once, I think it was for Jade Lovers?!?

On Your Lie in April Apr 12, 2017
Really loved this bittersweet high school love story, great live action adaptation of a manga (the anime was awesome as well). What can I say? It has everything in the right amount: romance, friendship, adolescence, family ties, music, dreams, life and death... The actors were perfect for their roles, especially Hirose Suzu! Not only is she beautiful, but also talented and she nailed her character, so I doubt anyone could complain about her performance.
The music was wonderful, especially if you love classical music like I do, you couldn't ask for anything else, all those scores... Kento's final performance had me sobbing, his acting while playing the piano was really good. And that letter... you guys should really watch this, I don't think anyone would say this movie was a waste of time. It's sweet without being cheesy, it's bitter without being a tearjerker and it will just make you think about how precious each day can be and it will remind you to just seize the moment...
Highly recommended, I'll def. rewatch this someday...

'Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano. Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face music again.'

Not really my cup of tea. Then again the subject matter is not appealing to begin with. If you were born and lived in democracy all your life, it is not relatable. If you were born and lived in a country under dictatorship even for a while, this will give you a bad taste, reminding you all those nightmares...
If you watch this movie like a history lesson for those who take democracy for granted or like a reminder that freedom will prevail one day for those who stand brave, you might enjoy it. Sadly, it didn't work for me. I felt uncomfortable watching the whole time, I couldn't connect with any of the characters, I had zero sympathy for our 'hero' and even acting wise I felt disappointed.

Maybe I've watched too many Korean movies already and I am nitpicking, but none of the actors managed to impress me in this production and, knowing for a fact that they are amazingly talented people, I must blame the script and the director for being unable to draw that 'special something' out of them... Be it Ra Mi Ran as a gentle mute, Jo Dal Hwan as an intellectually challenged murder suspect or Kim Sang Ho as a righteous reporter, they all felt somehow miscast. Jang Hyuk, on the contrary, felt typecast: I am growing tired of his similar stone face in every second movie or drama. It's either the expressionless sociopath or the manic character with a hyena laughter... his characters seem to be one huge, collective bipolar patient... As for Son Hyun Joo, his acting was solid as expected, but the way his character was written made me unable to sympathize... I just felt he deserved what he got coming and some more.

So yeah, not my favorite movie from this year's K crop, I wonder if it fared well at the B.O.

Really good soundtrack. Good cinematography. Slice of life. Stories of people falling in and out of love. Of loneliness. Of hope and despair. Surprising at times and boring at times. Still, worth watching.
