The show makes it very confusing in the first 20 episodes but the Xiyan King makes it clear in episode 21 I think it is in a scene where he says that XaiYao does not look like her mother but he says “your face and mouth really resemble your grandmother. Exactly like hers when I met her” (his wife) making clear that she is his bio granddaughter. There is some weird script writing there by calling her mother the disciple early in the show but making clear once they reunite with the grandpa that she is his bio granddaughter whose mother was the bio sister of XC father making them cousins.
A lot of people here seem to think this was filmed as 2 separate seasons with a break in between. To my understanding this was all filmed in one go as one season but because of the new rules that a show cannot be more than 40 episodes, they broke the 1 whole season filmed into 2 parts for airing. So don’t over analyze the first versus second as if they are separate entities. There was likely a lot filmed that was left on the cutting room floor but there wasn’t a break between parts in the writing or production stage. It’s all one and they just aired it under the current rules as 2 Parts/“seasons”.

The question was is it a happy ending and for XY it is a happy ending for HER and she is our main character 🤷🏻♀️ That’s usually the metric by which a happy ending is judged. the scenes I’m referring too that I disliked the styling are the opposite of down to earth and modest. Specifically the hair and dress styling for the banquet where she is introduced as the returned Princess of Haoling. I much prefer her in simple colors and hair.

I soooooo agree with you and for updo as a MALE I like her…. but the updo’s one she is princess were aging her …. the half up hair I preferred because it felt more youthful.

Yes I was dissapointed the show just glossed over this offer from King to FFB!!! We didn’t even get one scene of XL to ponder the idea! what a shame :(

is anyone slightly disappointed in XY styling after she becomes Princess for this series? Just me? I feel like they aged her in many scenes especially with the updo’s and the side sweaty bang.
I LOVE the styling of CX & XL. I can’t think of a single scene of either one that was not just immaculate from head to toe. Both are a 10/10
XY & TSJ styling I give 7.5/10.
XY as Princess’s hair I felt often aged her a lot. Wasn’t in love with it. Wish they had went another route with the hair for some of the big scenes like the Princess of Haoling Reveal banquet and the Wedding to FL.
