As much as I like the actor in Forever love, I’m sorry to say this, but here, his character is giving me puppy…
It’s the writing. Nothing to do with him. They’ve written his character as total trash with umphmmmm, none of the things a main character has. It’s just the plot. Even when he uses his powers they’ve made his powers lame AF. Instead of him driving the plot, it’s like he’s a side character. Bad bad writing.
this was my most anticipated drama of the year and it’s a total complete let down. The writing is so subpar…… so little happens in a 45 minute episode that nothing in the plot advanced, Gu Jin’s character is written so one dimensionally and blandly and i find myself wanting to fast forward nearly every episode now. I just spend 45 minutes annoyed now instead of feeling any other range of emotions. I don’t cry, I don’t cheer, I don’t laugh…… it’s and endless cycle of nothing with enough stakes to make it feel real instead of like I’m watching a play. That’s what it feels like….. like a play. We are 18 episodes in and I could sum up the entire plot in less than 3 sentences. That’s how little of consequence has happened.
it’s absolutely criminal at this point that the same production group from ALP did NOT make this. The production group who made TLI has put enormous effort into the CGI and beautification and none into the script and plot. ALP had incredible world building, extensive plot and character building and every episode was packed with moments that felt meaningful and advanced the plot forward. This on the other hand has given us waaaaaaay too many episodes now in this arc where our main leads basically do nothing and plot just happens around them. And the plot happening around them isn’t even good. The only good episodes of the series so far were the ones when they went to find the pieces of Feng Yin and did the missions together. Because the plot was advancing, the relationships were building etc. but even then it was still meh…… Gu Jin/Yuan Qi is badly written and directed. His whole put his fingers to his forehead power thing is just Lame AF. His father is Bai Jue!!!! Even with sealed powers he would never be this lame but the writer and director have just ruined him. I hate to compare it to ALP but even if it’s a different group making this drama they should have at least produced something to the level of ALP in terms of well developed plot.
this on the other hand is just ………. so underwhelming. I’m so frustrated at how let down I feel with every new episode. And do not even try to come policing me as a hater or anti-fan. I’m a fan of all of the main lead actors and again, this was my most anticipated drama that I had huge reserved goodwill for and was giving a lot of room for imperfection. I know I’m not alone here in the huge disappointment.
I don’t feel any chemistry either and I’m 27 episodes in. it’s the FL I don’t feel anything from.
I am both older (40) and extremely into angst.
I am watching A Journey to Love and that is both mature and angsty with a VERY independent FL and I feel the chemistry and am riveted by the relationship between two equals who are both incredible own their own.
I think Xu Kai has done a phenomenal job in his role and Jing Tian has done her best, but I simply don’t feel that thing I usually feel.
I realize this is an unpopular opinion. the drama is beautiful. I have imagined other actresses playing the FL and how they may have portrayed it and that’s never a good sign.
I want to preface this with I am an OG Xu Kai Stan from before most people knew he existed. I love EVERYTHING about him in this drama but am majorly struggling with either Jing Tians performance or the script, I can’t figure out which thing is at fault for me feeling nearly no chemistry from JT’s side. Xu Kai has some kind of magic that always gives chemistry from his side. But for me, JT is giving me zero romantic vibes and it’s killing the show for me. The kissing scenes are doing nothing for me which has never happened to me in a XK drama. Is it the script or her performance? I can’t figure it out. Am I the only one? I’m at ep 27 and trying to motivate myself to keep going since people say Xu Kai’s performance in the rest of the episodes is amazing but I wish I felt something…… anything…. for the romance here 😿
This drama is SO SO SO GOOD. LYN is everything I want in a ML. LSS is everything I want in a FL. Two strong smart badass MATURE characters in a mature romance. Amazing supporting cast that’s well fleshed out. Zero filler episodes. gorgeous cinematography and musical scoring.
this director has stolen my heart after My Dearest. The entire drama is gorgeous from beginning to end. he doesn’t rush anything and the cinematography is stunning.

LSS & LYN were perfection. Script was *chefs kiss* all supporting cast was amazing. I just can’t ask for more in a drama.
Give me LYN in a million more lead roles. He is so damn multidimensional and talented as an actor.
This drama was my top 2 of 2023 with Lost You Forever. I think Lost You Forever might just edge it out for 1st place but it’s a tough call.

never been so happy to see the OG Xabara though. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
