I don’t know how it will play out in IS but from what I saw he is being sent to investigate as both punishment and as a trial. In most Xianxia’s they “write” your mortal real story so it’s pre-determined who you will be & what you will do. So I believe they are already determining YY’s mortal realm life will be as TZ the Demon Hunter.
In Ashes of Love they would pre-write what each persons life would be in the mortal arc, it’s the same thing here I think in YY case. The emporer has them make YY a demon Hunter.
The only ? I have is how people in the mortal arc have powers. Usually they don’t but this story seems to have different parameters.

And YES there is ROMANCE. And it starts early with the FL & ML having a fake/real childhood engagement and though they pretend they both don’t like each other it’s clear they do!
You can genuinely tell that Yang Zi & CY are besties in real life. Not just in the BTS scenes. But the way he looks at her onscreen is a man who genuinely adores her.
