After thinking about this - this drama can be watched on many different levels. On the most crude level, it is a comedy or a thriller. But the scenes are very carefully picked with dialogue and content, so that each scene has LOADS of information... So... If you look deeper... this is a great family and business drama too as it has much social commentary about keeping appearances and failing in it... including: divorce with kid... family that is together to "pose" for the public but has no real connection between family members' what parents think their duty is... what love is - or not, what are signs of dedicated versus manipulative love..... cheating... manipulation... blind loyalty.... complications with the public image and one's livelihood, like lgbt, scandals, etc all the red signs... what happens when parents dont talk with their kid ... what happens when parents dont love each other anymore - ML-FL pair just keeps bickering and working together for their kid and to keep their jobs .. that's all there is between them lack of secrets in overpopulated Seoul lol
This is all cool but as someone said, a cookie cutter repeat with a slightly different twist So many recent "kdramas" copy Hwood and have main characters be villains and/or shady ppl and then drama makes them look human and likeable. Very sneaky way to condition ppl to accept crime as "normal"
FL here is kinda Robin Hood but ... her way involves killing ppl.
Also just like Hwood, recent "kdramas" do NOT catch criminals who matter. All dramas we watched recently - Judge Returns, etc etc etc - the criminals might get away for a second, but come back, and more come, The message is that crime and exploitation by elites is ok.
ANd then the police is ah so busy bothering small fish but NEVER goes against who really matters. That Detective and his speech - "so Kingfisher violated the law so that's why we have to catch him and have him punished" =
BUT NEVER DID HE SAY - OK LETS CATCH GOVERNMENT, CORPORATE ETC CORRUPTION AND THE DRUG RINGS THAT SUPPLY THEM MONEY TO STAY IN POWER. But that is the biggest theft and violations of the law out there!!!!
That is now the common trait in these newfangled Kwood dramas. The crime is somehow justified and normalized, the audience is brainwashed to ignore it. The trend is to make 2006 american movie Idiocracy about year ... 2035? i think? be the reality now..
maybe mark this as a spoiler for others who do not want the show to be spoilt? :)
If you are reading this before you watched the episode, it is at your own risk... and ... if you are reading this after watching - then - why dont you answer the question I asked - why did ML say that in the taxi?
I can now it summarize - ML is made so "unalive" poker faced, he does not express emotion even to his wife. He feels like her caring but burdened eunuch servant, not a lover and husband.
Ok seems like they lived separately for a while and perhaps he doesnt feel lovey-dovey - BUT THAT IS THE POINT - HE DOES NOT FEEL ANYTHING FOR HIS WIFE, except a caring feeling out of ... duty? He does not seem to feel love and wanting to come together, nor does he seem to feel sadness bc they are separated, ... he feels NOTHING. He does not even smile at his wife.
When a man is that deeply cemented, he is mentally ill. Then the audience is dragged there with him. So, for the makers of this drama, the drama WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER if ML was less unalive
Yeah sure Jason Bourne made a lot of money.. So if this drama wanted to be like that, .. I hope they got the money they expected. Bc.... international watchers might not be here to watch Jason Bourne :) Perhaps this was Kwood trick, to use one feature that international audience can latch on and PAY MONEY TO WATCH and then to add warm, humane aspects of a true kdrama and package it as an authentic kdrama...
The drama is not terrible. But it could have been a lot better with a few small but significant tweaks. RULE OF THE THUMB: TOO MANY POKER FACED ROLES AND THE AUDIENCE FEELS LIKE THEY ARE IN A CASINO, CRIME DEN, OR JAIL PSYCH WARD
See the spoiler for specific insights. To me, analyzing a drama is a practice drill for detective abilities. I…
Ok so I was right, PrettyLadyDoctor wanted ML. . I was wondering why he was looking at her with those squinty "oh yummy you are cute!" eyes - well at least at the end, he did NOT want her but probably knew what was going on. I saw correctly that GoodFriendDoctor was concerned that she liked ML - but not bc he liked her, as I thought, but bc they were scheming together. Note taken for the next time not to eliminate a huge possible cause like that. I saw correctly how immature ML's wife is. She does not accept that her husband has a kind of job where he might be unreachable when working. That patient, VIP or not, would have been dead/disabled if ML left the surgery to operate on their kid. First of all, by law in many countries, surgeons canNOT operate on family. Second, by the time he left that surgery even early and showed up at his daughter, it might have been too late. Third, even if he left early, could he save her? Forth, even if he did, it would be such bad karma, her life at the expense of killing someone else. But FL has no maturity to accept. I am glad she has maturity to stand up to the VIP selection. I suspected Chairman was involved in crime a lot more than he is? It is not clear yet - did Chairman know about prettyladydoctor and GoodfriendDoctor?
the woman is the one who made the threat, sent the text message to the husband. She works at the clinic and she…
Oh thank you so much! I thought that MS's mom threatened lmao So there are TWO videos... That was a big miss on my part :) I was tricked by the camera lol
She is a narcissist for sure. The crocodile tears and self pity ... my response is - you wanna die? PLEASE do…
lmao you are right, indeed she cannot die yet :)
The bottom message here and the learning for the audience - IF the drama is done well - is HOW TO ESCAPE A NARCISSISTIC PARENT AND HOW TO RECOVER FROM THE TRAUMA
Indeed FL's mom possession of Accupuncturist, losing the house, refusing 1stWife's family, meddling into JN's life... etc etc etc will create zillion episodes
and I predict that JN has to fully in clear conscience distance herself from her mother ML will have to do similar with his mother :)
AND I STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY ML SAID THAT ABOUT HIS WIFE IN THAT TAXI WHILE DRUNK. It seems like he did not love her already. I really do not feel any love from ML to FL. He is like her bodyguard, not her lover. Sure he cares but it does not seem he cares like a MAN, more like a robot. She seems to have feelings for him.
See the spoiler for specific insights. To me, analyzing a drama is a practice drill for detective abilities. I LOVE to profile characters. I correctly saw the feeling of PrettyLadyDoctor for ML, and the shady of GoodFriendDoctor :) and the immaturity of ML's wife.
AND I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY ML SAID THAT ABOUT HIS WIFE IN THAT TAXI WHILE DRUNK. What was that about???? .
ML is a medically off, a serious piece of cement. He does not show emotion even with his own wife. The end of ep 10 or scenes in ep 11 - I really do NOT feel any love from him to her. He is more like her bodyguard, an eunuch servant. He is very distant and isolated. Like a mentally off person, like a person with autism or something like that.
Poker face and "empty face" is fitting on the serial killer, but not on a surgeon. There is a HUGE difference between poker / empty face and an introverted reserved careful person. The FEEL is 100% different. The director and whoever else wanted it to look this way... imo messed up here royally. Our surgeon is a rock climber and was a cuddly family man. The drama made him into a quasi Jason Bourne special agent/detective and it just ... didnt mash well. Sure, ML is super arrogant as the genius surgeon and keeps trying to do everything on his own, AS IF he is ALSO an expert in chasing criminals and in charge of EVERYTHING ANYWHERE...... But... the clumziness of that.. WAS NOT PORTRAYED CONVINCINGLY. ML had to be less cemented to be more convincing. He cannot be the same poker face as the crazy psychopath villain. Sure the drama had a slight difference - SOMETIMES - sometimes ML's eyes were alive. But only sometimes.
I AM GONNA KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS BC I WANT POKER FACED ROLES TO NOT BE BLANKET USED FOR ANY ROLE AND TO BE USED IN APPROPRIATE SETTING e.g. a psychopath villain, servant, etc
Villain's eyes in this drama were empty most of the time. Super creepy. THe villain actor is a master of portraying a mentally crazy person, 100% psychopath. The other 2 villains were also fantastic in their roles. I love the fake smile of the Doctor villain
The villain is acted "properly" and in an amazing way. he is totally creepy psychopath. Wow. His wife is creepy bc she is an emotional psychopath... ANd the other villain is super good in his role as a sociopath/psychopath. Those three really nailed their roles.
The reason for all murder and kidnapping etc etc etc is 100% realistic and super common. Think of Thomas Alva Edison and Nikola Tesla - that is the syndrome here... . The competition to be "better" happens every single day anywhere in big prestige/money jobs. It totally makes sense. Sure, physical murders do not happen routinely, but professional and social murders DO happen A LOT, EVERY DAY. And yeah, most CEOs and any high level jobs are subclinical psychopaths :) Like our lowly villain here, but in a high power/money position. :) About ... 40% of population?
TOXIC FANS LIKE @Danny_J ARE HARMFUL TO DRAMAS THIS DRAMA HAD LOW RATING TO START WITH

ML can't trust anyone around him especially his in-laws & co-workers since they all either being threatened…
what a bologney bs fantasy story to defend the ML role. Dream on. What you wrote has no relation to the drama scenes ML did not show emotion with his own wife, even in scene where they have their heartfelt talk
