this was a 4 hour long angst filled harrowing story that I have not seen among cdramas for some time, mostly because I avoid cruelty to the women and men's general pompous ass attitude that pay lip service of love and protection to only leave them to their own devices. This story had fl going back to her abusers with no common sense and only men who never claimed to love her (4th prince) or wanting/having sex with her being there for her (father and brother). I honestly developed stomach ache from the sheer powerlessness I witnessed watching this.
NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!
GREAT production, really good idea for the story (albeit reminded me of Scarlett Heart Kdrama), acting was top notch, but the characters were eeek, not likable even if they had charm. Watch at your own risk.

I had it on my PTW for over a year because I really liked the manga

this one is really different! well worth watching. she plays a ghost who interacts with her spouse and it's both very touching (we learn about their own and common tragedies) and fun. kudos to the scriptwriters for a refreshing ideas and not the usual tropes this was at least 8.5/10👍

majority of the characters fl is scheming against are children. yes you are NOT mistaken. 6-13 year old kids at that time may have been more mature than what we see nowadays, but I absolutely abhore the idea shown in the novel.

tbh, in the grand Chinese tradition about 150 chapters after the first 200 were absolutely unnecessary. and the ending blah. but the beginning was good and I think drama will make it worthwhile. just be warned below

Almost finished the novel (ch 378) and OMG can't wait to see what they did with this. Esther is going to nail it!!! What a story.

But it was rather disappointing that is stopped in the middle of a mortal realm development in the story. Hopefully there's partm2 like with his recent drama of the woman who pretended to be a man. Thanks again. Off to park my vpn in east Asia again 😆

I love all the tricks and antics of Yan Zi Xian. And when director knows what s/he is doing, the effect is very much enjoyable like in Eternal Joy with You. Just started and hoping for another great watch💓

Honestly, I am not vested in it. I am watching PA now with understanding they had to change the story because they did not purchase the adaptation rights, so I think I will put all of this on hold because it is not entertaining enough at this point

oh yes. the disappointment group is strong and growing. I can see why it's difficult to be honest about this drama: there are too many factors contributing to it being poorly received. I for one like to compare the drama to the novel or previous production, but if this is the first thing watched then I would at least like to know what I am watching before deciding why it's not of interest. out of 5 things that I pay attention to (story/script, characters/acting, directing/editing, ost/CGI/cinematography, emotional/educational value) this is falling short on 3 already 😵‍💫🤦

in the way they remade some of PA and show it here in flashbacks. but the overall effect is rather underwhelming. big stars do not make a good drama. cinematography doesn't either.

and that in itself is a problem with this adaptation: it does not show sufficiently the whys of each character. a drama (stand-alone or not advertised as sequel or remake) should be either explicit in showing us the details of the past (flashbacks) or providing enogh on screen action that leads us toward understanding the characters. for someone who is not familiar with the novel or PA this could be frustrating. to me it means lazy directing and editing. 😑
