Yep. It's like we are watching such horrible things happen to someone we know. My heart breaks whenever I see Seo In fighting for basic rights. She isn't a weak, dependent woman, far from it actually, but even she couldn't escape the poisonous claws of patriarchy. It's painful but I am glad that the issues aren't being glossed over in favour of "cutesy romance".
Can I just say that I admire Jeong In's mom so effing much? That woman had to live with a shallow, selfish man throughout her life and is still holding on to her humanity. She cares for her children more than she cares for her own conventional beliefs. When she told Jeong In to "run away", I felt like laughing and crying at the same time. What kind of a monster does her dad have to be to make her mom go to such extreme lengths to keep her away from him? Poor Lee women deserve better.
