you make a very intersting point. i had completely overlooked why the king abdicated to his brother rather than his son. its possible, that bc the son was only like 3 or 5, and regent would have to be named bc he couldn't actively rule that young, plus the king felt hed cause upheavel by abdicating so put a strong king in place to take over immediately, which would be ian?
i wonder this too. are crown pricess given the title by virtue of being the first born? or does the reigning king select a successor from the royal line? bc if it's option two, it would explain why ian's father was so horrid to him, basically calling his choice into question, and would explain why ian was abdicated to over the royal baby. but if crown prices are born, not chosen, then you're right. why take his own son out of the equation?

I agree and disagree.
He has definitely been told to never outshine his older brother, but he has never been a coward. For instance, when he lost the final arrow throw it was done intentionally. His father didn' t break him, despite doing everything to. Ian simply made a choice to step back and let his brother shine. His father demanded it, he loved his brother, and he didn't want to tarnish the crown or let down the ppl.
But he has always been strong. During the scene where he barges into his brother's room right before the king and queen mother got married, we can see that he cared for his brother, was ready to step in and help him if asked, ans was also ready to step aside for this brother's sake and let the chips fall where they may.
But now, he has two reason to feel justified in claiming a throne which he knows he is gifted for sitting on. One, his brother did ask him to take over. Two, the lawful king abdicated to him. And, if you want a third reason, the nephew whom he loves and protects is being pressured as a king to the extreme....
Alotogether, I don't see why he's waiting. I have a feeling the PM would have backed his legal claim to the throne too...

For now she says its for material benefit but she'll eventually catch feelings, or recognize they're already there, thus making her want the marriage that much more. Ian has overwhelming public love, and SHJ is popular too. Right now the press and public are fawning over this engagement, which the king has already approved. If the pm vetoes it then he'll lose the friendship and support of both the prince and sjh, and there will be public backlash which might cost him his reelection in the future. about the pm tho, im conflicted there. he befrended shj in an environment where she was immensly unpopular and hated and stood up for her when needed. its very telling that she stayed close with him until today seen by the lunch he took her to in celebration of her royal award and in the fact that she calls him oppa and speaks informaly to him. they are genuniely close friends.
he is also on good terms with ian, as seen by their convo during ep one regarding the queen mother pressuring him to marry, and the epilogue convo at school. they seem like friends.
on the other hand, he does need to get on board with the wedding plans already....

Was wondering if you know about a new release from Wang Nan? I came across a youtube short which, of course, didn't contain the title. His hair was cut very short which makes me think it's a either a new or prerelease. Seems to be a secret marriage arrangment. You can see the FL who is is wife show up for a job interview and he is one of interviewers.
