The leads' chemistry is really, really good. It's natural and unforced, and they sell the trust and affection these characters have between them wonderfully. The best chemistry in the show is between the FL and her little brother. He's hilarious. Off screen, I think he must truly love the FL.
This show is also the extremely familiar trope of genius ML and stupid FL. Even when the drama is as charming as this one, these characterizations are pretty tiresome.
This is typical light and fluffy romantic youth drama, but quite good.
"The Heirs" is the drama where I learned I stan Kim Woo Bin.
It's also the drama where I nailed down my dislike of Lee Min Ho, even if he's lost the bad perm from "Boys Over Flowers". Park Shin Hye, also dislike. All of her early dramas where her on screen kissing style is fish-eyed plank are bad.
If you write "Frustrating Dramas, pt. 2" I'm here for it.
I've probably watched Secret 8 times. More, most likely. (I hope not, though.) Secret is the drama I watch when I have a particular--I don't know, craving? mood.
I liked this show a lot. I had no idea people were waiting for it, or looking forward to it for whatever reasons. I just happened on it because someone recommended it.
All the leads were charming, although the FL was characterized as too immature, considering her character's age, as well as the character's being a successful, famous singer. (This is not an industry where innocence survives for long, and that's true globally.) The ML's character is at least 4 years younger than she, but he still gets to be the one who is mature. That was sort of laughable. (That's a Cdrama for you. Why China's female audience keeps putting up with these ridiculously sexist tropes, I have no idea.)
The 2FL is miserable and sad for 42 of the show's 31 episodes, apparently because her college boyfriend was a jerk. The entire story line was an unnecessary drag on the drama, and still would have been even if we got an explanation for why she's so sad and miserable, which we didn't.
The 3ML is stops about a centimeter short of being utterly creepy in his unrequited love for the FL. He doesn't bring anything to the story, either.
The gaming scenes were really good, but I wish they'd shown what the characters looked like from the game's point of view--at least once.
The romance between the FL and ML is lovely, though.
Steamy first episode. (Not tear the door of its hinges and then chew the nails steamy, but . . . ) On the other hand, there's a lot of slapping, slippery and vague alliances, shadowy bad guys and except for everyone really, really hating each other, no discernible plot yet. Typical Lakorn nonsense, but fun so far.
I understand your frustration; however this is an international site with international fans and opinions. By…
Calm, polite, and level-headed advice.
One of the things I appreciate the most is how our love for Asian dramas from South Korea, Taiwan, The PROC, Japan, Thailand makes us all friends, even if we're supposed to be enemies out in the world. I may be innocent and naive, but I've always hoped that we'd see that we're alike, no matter what country we come from, and take that affection and respect for each other out into the world.
We're friends here. Let us not be unkind and rude to each other over politics--the dumbest reason for meanness on the planet.
Thank you so much for this very helpful overview. I was always very curious about all the Chinese dramas which have "Novoland" in their titles--were they prequels, sequels, or just sharing features from the same world like "Eternal Love" and "Ashes of Love". This article helped to put the Novoland universe in context. I'm sure there will be a gazillion more shows set in the Novoland universe, so your article's really going to come in handy!

Excuse me for replying to myself, but I feel compelled to warn you, dear reader, that this Lakorn is so bad, it will suck out your soul, and leave your limp skinbag dripping on the floor.
Spoiler, next, so stop here if you don't want to know that
the last 8 episodes of this drama, the FL is raped, kicked, beaten and locked in a chained room, and absolutely no one in the show gives a flying purple damn about her.She is abused by her psychopathic boyfriend, and not even his father who is living in the same house cares about it.
This is a terrible Lakorn, and it won't add a single good thing to your life if you watch it. If you live in Thailand and know the screenwriter of this steaming pile of poop, please give them the finger for me. They deserve it.
Aaaaaaargh. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh. I'm up to episode 12, and this show is disgusting. The characters all seem to be depraved, with values that are extremely elastic. Ja, the FL, is apparently smart enough to be the right hand of a real estate magnate, but too stupid to realize she could take the bahts she spends on designer goods, and maybe buy herself an escape hatch out of the oppressive nightmare of her boss's home. Preferring to marry herself up and out of the slavery she's in, the script has her agree to a living situation she is otherwise much, much too smart to have agreed to, I'm certain the producers have some sort of torture in store for her later, as punishment.
Holy fuckballs, this studio turns out some dreadful shows.

What more could a person ask from a show, really? I'm just waiting for Season 3 to end, then I'm going to watch the whole series.
