I only checked out ep 1 of the Virtual Voyager fan sub bc it is a bit of a pain to download and stream. From what I saw, it is actually better than the official sub in terms of capturing the emotion and meaning of the dialogue. The official sub is good but for example it doesn't capture the full meaning of what Shunde tasked Wanhua Valley to do in terms of taming the merman. The fan sub does a noticeable better job at that. And the fansub also doesn't do irritating and useless things like translating the name of places just as we don't translate character names. This is a pet peeve of mine and a giant waste of time bc what the viewer hears is Wanhua Valley not Flower Valley. So for those waiting for official subs, I would suggest just going with the fan sub, which IMHO is very well done. What the official sub does do well is clearly highlight the concept of earth immortals, which is what all the so called "demons" ie fox clan, merpeople etc are.

Astro partnered with iQiyi it’s easier for them to get IQiyi dramas. I won’t be surprised if they buy it later on. My guess is Croton is trying to sell exclusive multi region rights to a global platform like Netflix, AppleTV or Disney. Exclusive rights cost a lot more. If they fail then they will try smaller regions like Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia bc they can’t pay as much for content. Plus Netflix for example competes with Astro in Malaysia so if it’s on Astro already, Netflix will be less interested in buying it.
TLB was like that too - when it aired it was raw I remember translating quite a few of the dialogues for it. But Tencent and Viki bought the rights for a few regions and then Netflix and Astro got it a lot later. Huace/croton did ok with it but they could have made more if they sold it to Netflix exclusively first. However Netflix has been more interested in Korean content like Squid Games that can be huge global hits. So far they have not bought any Chinese content on an exclusive basis and are usually late buyers.

Definitely more drama driven if you mean heavily factionalized by that…it’s quite watchable but not something I chase.

Don’t hate me for saying it but I think I consistently feel LHQ’s deep conflicted and tortured longing for Yunhe much more than Chang Yi’s. I am not saying Ren Jialun is not doing well but he actually only made me cry in 1 scene but I feel LHQ’s pain in many more scenes.

Idk which clip you are referring to but it sounds like a Part 2 trailer. The short answer is no she was not always a fox and this is her second master, a good guy. If I tell you any more the drama would be spoiled for you.

Yeah sorry to tell you this is a crappy business. Huace only makes 10pct on its projects or about rmb 160’mm last year for all its projects in 2021 which include TLB and WOH. Youku lost 2.8bn, in digital media in 2021. So in total together they lost -2.6bn. However you cut it it’s a shit business. The only persons that make money are the actors. Everyone else makes a pittance (Huace) or losses billions. And you are shocked youku didnt want to pay for the international rights so they can lose even more money??? Huace does try to sell ALL its dramas to the 180 customer contacts they have but very few of them buy any individual drama.

Maybe that's why they split this in two parts..... the underwater scenes Ren Jialun teased us with as being cut can be added back to make this 3-4 episodes longer.

No worries, its something lots of people like to just joke about it. They are not that long married, its kind of cute she is still jealous. That said, it is part of the job, I am sure she will get used to it at some point...

Actually conditions are kind of tough right now. They are aiming for better than their average revenue of rmb 1mm per episode considering the high investment cost. There are not many tv stations and platforms that can pay that much and Tencent and iQiyi have gone downstream into production by themselves and don’t buy as much from them anymore. Youku bought broadcast rights for China so during the license period of about 8 years they will pay for and get all the ad related profits for China. After that it goes back to Huace. I think production is a pretty crappy business, Huace only makes 10pct profit on their projects even though they say they are aiming for 20pct going forward. I wouldn’t put one red cent into this kind of business.

If it is free they will drag it out - best case 2 episodes a day to maximize ad revenue. But they probably will have a pay to watch faster option with no ads as well. They also market to 180 tv stations and platforms overseas and it will probably be streaming on local TV stations in many places as well. In many markets the local stations do the subbing themselves bc their subs are better. Astro in Malaysia for example always has better subs than the Chinese platforms bc there is a very large bilingual Chinese community there.

Oops they did it again... took a perfectly good story and grew it into a long winded ok story. And as for LHQ, that really makes my blood boil... I thought they were for sure throwing Li Shu under the bus since he should be long dead anyway...
