Its pretty good, miles better than any of his other recent dramas. I watched The Legends a really long time ago now and it was a pretty crappy drama but my strongest remaining impression from it is Xu Kai really, really liked Bai Lu. His attraction to her was not acting, he really thought she was hot stuff. What I see here is pretty good but nowhere near the same thing.

You raise a great point - if she had taken action or had him under house arrest or something bc of what he did, he probably wouldn't have ran into that ambush. Actions have consequences. Yeah tbh even though they tried to pour all this sugar over it in ep 18, I am not happy with either the FL and ML after ep 16. Li Ni needed to kill LCF after what he did to his army and I thought it was smart of him to let Cui Li do the dirty work for him. The FL should have been grateful Li Ni didn't actually help Cui Li kill LCFafter what he did. So I was not happy to see him chase after her and pretty much grovel for her forgiveness. Esp since I totally get why he lost the confidence of his men by acting like an idiot. Not to mention those parts were super boring.

The bigger issue is the FL keeps arguing that Li Ni would make a just emperor but the problem is she'd make a real shit empress. Bc she is the interfering type that will definitely protect those dear to her even after they do unforgiveable things.
