Yeah I do love political revenge dramas but idk about this one - Anle is just not angry or damaged enough. I love her playful fake ditziness but she hasn't shown her dark side yet. And Gong Jun should just not play a good guy, he seems wasted here.
In the novel QWZ died to save Zhou Ye's brother. It was a good, fitting death for the hero that she was. In the drama it was just senseless and then to let Fan Yu off the hook for it was just wrong.

Well if that is the case, the writing in the drama failed to show it. You may not be able to separate the two because you read the book. I am commenting as someone who didn't and am judging all of the characters purely as they are articulated by the drama. While I much appreciate your filling the many gaps along the way, my point is you should not have to if the drama were well written.
In the end I blame Jiang He. He had so many opportunities to set things right and instead just sat there while his son wreaked havoc in the capital. Too many people did not have to die.
