Good question - I don't think all is revealed yet. Tbh I am also quite confused bc from what I remember Peng Kun is old and he was crippled or had asthma from rescuing the late Lord Qian'an from the miasma or whatever happened there. He looked pretty healthy to me so idk what happened there and I was expecting to see more of Wang Lin. But whatever it is obviously Ling Yi is behind it all. Seems like a scheme to cover up what happened all those years ago in Gu City. Yeah I liked ZZF in Upcoming Summer and her scenes with Lei Jiayin in this were pretty good. I usually ignore CCTV ratings bc its all old fogeys anyway, I haven't found them relevant or helpful for a long long time. Yeah I did read the Douban book reader rants but I think in general book readers tend to be snobs about adaptations anyway so I usually don't pay that much attention to them. They are even more vicious on Immortal Samsara. For this I feel like the drama the book readers wanted to watch is one I would have dropped anyway so I just ignore them. The Douban rating isn't too shabby its pretty much the same as the Reset rating which I still cannot watch. What surprised me is my drama buddy keeps talking about this. She claims its very widely discussed in China and she is planning to watch it next.

Yeah but that would be kind of true of any Christie adaptation. I think the issue for me is the villain characterizations are not that well done. I don't mind as much knowing who did it as long as the role, their motives and lies are well delivered. So far the best one was Roger Ackroyd IMHO but the others are on the weak side. If you haven't watched it, you may enjoy Detective L. The detective is clearly inspired by Sherlock Holmes but the cases are originally written with a very heavy Christie feel to them.

Thanks for this fantastic walk down memory lane. I personally feel very sad to see demise of HK TVB canto dramas. None of the many adaptations of Jin Young's classic wuxias were ever able to capture the essence of those iconic characters the way the 1980s TBV versions did.

As per @MoonlightFilly it is a complete knock off of the 2017 Ken Branagh/Johnny Depp version of Murder on the Orient Express. If you watched that you will definitely think you have seen it before.
