That was really funny. I was only kind of bothered when she complained about Wang Ling. I mean the girl is a troll for sure but idk how asking the emperor to smack her is different from LBY standing up for her. I am willing to wait and see where she is going with it but I kind of cringed at that moment. Like Wang Ling is a petty person, the kind not worth squabbling with so why waste a rare moment you have with the emperor to ask a favour on someone so insignificant like that?

Immortal Samsara is my treadmill drama. Its not bad for a xianxia - Cheng Yi looks super delicious and there is a lot of PDA that makes me run faster. Heart of Genius is seriously good but a completely different genre. Kunlun Mountain I will check out simply bc Wang Yang is in it but not in a huge hurry to do so.

There was never any risk of that bc Tencent did not air Part 1 until the distribution license for both parts was obtained. But they didn't put anything out until the last minute to create anticipation and also to keep a low profile in the current tense regulatory environment. As you may know A Love Never Lost was pulled AFTER airing 6 episodes right after the Queen Lau fiasco. This is an expensive drama and it is popular and there was a near costume hiccup. No need to make waves. That is also why Immortal Samsara dropped as quietly as possible.

The split is pretty much just to obtain the airing license. Tencent considers it to be one drama and so do most c-netizens. They understand its just regulatory and the split doesn't matter.

The 40 episode cap isn't a hard and fast rule, its just "guidance". Exceeding the limit may cause delays in obtaining the distribution license etc. It also has to do with actor pay. There are now caps on total actor pay and lead actor pay as a percent of total production budget. When it is split into two parts they have room to play around with that. That is why the split seems arbitrary and doesn't always end on an arc. While it seems messy, overall IMHO, the cap has been good. We still get a lot of dramas with heavy water injection but its not as bad as it was before. The cap was put in place to try to raise production standards. So were the actor pay caps - there were too many budgets spending 80pct on actor pay and then practically nothing on sets and costumes.
